Thank you Sir. I sincerely appreciate it. I myself am going to wrecking yards trying to find all the stuff they dont make anymore. Great video Sir. I appreciate your time.
I do live in a 73 1ton Olson/Guman step van I love it. Inline 6cyl 292 cities. With 450 watts of solar panels on the roof. Tip- cover the floor with 1/2" plywood, makes it warmer and quieter !! 😃😃😃

One small correction: the washer you speak of for the upper control is convex and should go IN FRONT OF the shims, between the control arm and shims. One side of the washer is convex and the other is flat - the flat side goes against the shims.
Hey again I have same truck p30 man lol u-joint that area u said hard get by (mount or bracket) I lost it drive around so I have to go junkyard for it But the problem is have to cut rivets then put new one what best way instead of new rivets .... sorry I am not good grammar but I try my best ..... again I FOUND U .. u are awesome mechanic
Yea .... what ur advice about the rivets thing cuz when I cut off at junk yard and get mount to put on my truck ... do I put bolts or anyway cuz I can’t find tool for rivets press something like that
vinnie gonzales the original rivets were hot pressed rivets. Yes you can use bolts, but you have to use at least grade 8. Go to a specialty hardware store to get them.
Aussie guy owner of a 82 Grumman olson step ford 6 cylinder. question on the chassis rubber mount under the radiator any idea where to find replacement.
Just got a p30 so these are great tips! I appreciate it. Also it has the 6.5 so I was wondering what I can do to maybe improve any power or if there is anything I can do for it?
So I got a p30 and once you hit 25mph it’s sounds like something is smacking on the front passenger side and almost feels like it’s wobbling but I mean a smack and a hard smack noise a subtle wobbling any ideas?
Can any of these issues cause a shudder when braking. I replaced front rotors, pads, rubber brake lines and calipers. Still have a shudder when I brake. The rear drum brakes have new shoes and I replaced one of the drums, still experiencing slight shudder when braking.
I’m not a mechanic. Personal experience: had the same issue, I ended up replacing calipers on front. Don’t know if it will help, but it fixed my issue.
I got word from an alignment shop that I need an entire front end installed on my P30 chassis class A motorhome. I will be doing it myself because I can’t afford the $4600 they want. As I am looking up the parts on line, there are heavy and non heavy duty parts. How do I know which are required for my RV? I would assume Heavy Duty. Will the HD vs Non HD parts fit either way and it’s just deciding whether or not you want to spend the money for the HD parts?
Well they’re garbage parts either way. Guaranteed to fail within 20,000 miles. Very poor design. If you want any kind of life or reliability out of that front suspension, go with the best parts you can get your hands on. Or the wrong bump will break it all off and leave you stranded. My honest suggestion would be do get rid of that RV and get something that isn’t a Chevy.
I just bought new upper control arms from Rock auto, look heavy/ quality, with bushings and ball joint, $24 each. Bolt nuts look intimidating, truck is ‘85, very rusty, hoping you addressed removal, do i use impact gun, heat em, soak em, cut them, which would you do..?
Stud bolts on the frame are bad rusty? Depends, if they’re rusty from salt, get new studs and do whatever necessary to get the nuts off. Otherwise just hose them down every day with PB Blaster for a week. On the weekend turn them loose with a wrench first. If they come free easy then you can use an impact. Then try heating and so on.
John Smith depending on year, virtually there is no difference. If we are talking late 80’s up until Chevy stopped making the chassis, then the only difference is 3/4 ton 1 ton and I think there was a 2 ton p40 for bigger RVs and busses.
@@bebe187s if you look it up that way and still no one carries it, try calling precision sales in Alabama. (205) 591 2266. Talk to either Buddy or Tony. If they can’t get it, no one can. I which case you’ll have to just find a hose that fits. Go to the back wall at Orileys and pick one that will work. Or get a flexhose.
You don't got to replace the whole arm if there bolts on an of the ball joints someone already drilled the factory ball joint out the new ones com with bolts
Might as well replace the whole thing. SPECIFICALLY ON FEDEX STEPVANS. I’ve said this over and over. They are junk to begin with and these trucks are abused. Unlike the RVs. Very different application.
the upper balljoints are replaceable! you have to grind or chisel the rivots out. New upper balljoints bolt right in! check with your parts dealer. should have done your homework before making this video

I have an '85 chevy gmc p-30. Bolt sheared off on lower control arm. Was banging real loud on 3 pt. Turns.

That is a great lesson on GM StepVan's. You make it look easy! Thanks for sharing.
Thank you for the education. I’m just buying an old RV and have to make sure it is road worthy.

Turbo if its n/a
You should double-nut or thread lock those u-bolts. Always worries gone until they fracture. lol
Is there any chance you know if wheels interchangeable with other cars, trucks for P30? I am looking for it spare tire wheel..

Possibly abs.

Just go to Orileys and run the VIN they can tell you what it is.
Great Video THANKS 😃😃😃
How can I find the lower radiator hose can’t find it nowhere
Like a new one at a store? Or you can’t find where the lower radiator hose is on your truck?
Yes can’t find it at any store

Can't replace the ball joints? Seriously? You air chisel the rivets off and the new replacements get bolted on. Way simple common repair.
