Sinatra is a pure legend. His ability to use body language, voice inflection to convey a song are almost unmatched in music history. That era had perhaps the greatest songwriters ever and everyone wrote songs for Sinatra. Among his many contemporaries he was revered. No one, except maybe Tony Bennett, could interpret a song any better. Not known by many people is the fact that he was at the forefront when it came to desegregate Las Vegas hotels, restaurants and nightclubs. He refused to play at hotels on the strip that did not allow black guests. He received a lifetime achievement award from the NAACP. Polo, hope to see more of Francis Albert Sinatra on the channel. Highly recommend It Was a Very Good Year. 🔥
I Don't know if you will actually read this comment I've been a long time listener/viewer of your RUclips channel, yes I am subscribed, I've sent many a requ3sts to hundreds upon hundreds of reaction channels, If you dig Sinatra please I beg you 😅 do a reaction of Bobby Darin's "Mack the Knife" anyways when I think of gangster I think of this song plus it used to be my karaoke song Sinatra covered this song Louis Armstrong even covered it as well as s3veral several others. FYI have you heard the song splish splash? After you listen to mack the knife Darin wrote both of them
"Mack the Knife" was composed by Kurt Weill, lyrics by Bertolt Brecht. (1928)
I agree that Francis Albert Sinatra was awesome , but then Dino , he also was awesome , then Gene Kelly , he is superb in Brigadoon, as is Richard Harris in Camelot , what artists we had , and now they don't really cut it , but it's a different time , and something old , something new , something borrowed , something Blue , Ol Blue Eyes , he sure was special , RARARA
here's to you for selecting Sinatra to react to. one of my favorite performers. for your own viewing pleasure please check out two more: "The Lady is a Tramp" with Ella Fitzgerald and "Luck Be A Lady" with Nelson Riddle Orchestra. Both feel good recordings and YOU WILL FEEL IT guaranteed.
This will bring back my Dad 's record selections.
GREAT picks!
One of the best performances I’ve seen of Sinatra was him singing Old Man River at an NAACP fundraiser at Carnegie Hall. He flew in from California specifically to appear at the fundraiser where the special guest was Dr. Martin Luther King. His rendition was so moving that it was said Dr. King was brought to tears in the audience. It really is very special. Thanks so much for reacting to Frank Sinatra, the Chairman of the Board. 👏👏🥰
👍👍Frank Sinatra was one of the greatest entrainers of his generation.😊 🖖❤
He doesn’t just sing the song-you feel the song. Talent.
❤Smooth ' ol Blue Eyes' Sinatra❤
The audiences back then had a greater attention span ! Truer words were never spoken.
And more respect!
Classy guy, and believe it or not, although I’m just an old crone in Ohio, I think you too are rather classy👍🏾
The most impeccable timing of any singer. Next up - "it was a very good year"
I was blessed with a Dad that loved music. Frank was his favorite. In 1986...he took me to Vegas. Surprised me with tickets to see Frank in concert. The Golden Nugget Casino. Front row table...Frank larger than life, a beautiful orchestra and the best smile i ever saw on my Dad's face. It was such a special night and a memory that i go to a lot. I lost my Dad in 2012. I listen to Frank when i miss my Dad. Frank is a Legend. His delivery of a song was like no other!!! A Legend!! Our song was Fly Me To The Moon! ❤️✌🏼
That’s beautiful ❤️
If you get the chance, please look up "The Frank Sinatra Spectacular" on YT. It's the ultimate Rat Pack (him, Sammy Davis, Dean Martin) performance...
It's a well-known fact that Sammy Davis Jr wasn't allowed to stay at the Las Vegas hotels that he performed at for a while, but after he met Sinatra that all changed. He stayed at Sinatra's home for a while after the car accident where he lost one of his eyes and they became best friends. Anytime a hotel wanted Sinatra to perform there he told them that if Sammy couldn't stay there then he would never perform there. By helping to get African-American performers on TV and break the color barrier in major hotels, he played his own little part in supporting the Civil Rights Movement...
he knew what it was to be poor, and he knew what it was to have friends.
6:00 Sinatra had the greatest voice in pop singing ...followed him since I was a kid. One bad remembrance of him when Kennedy was running for president he invited Sinatra and his pals to a dinner but did not invite Sammy Davis Jr. because he was black. Blacks were not easily welcomed to the democratic party at that time .Dean Martin refused to go because Sammy wasn't invited. Sinatra went next week since he was a huge supporter of Kennedy.
I have Sinatra’s signature on my left wrist-love his music! ❤️
My dad was a Frank Sinatra /Steve McQueen type- he was a man among men - as they used to say - charismatic, cool, cutting wit, the cigarette a prop that enhanced his coolness, and his blue eyes would have the ladies swooning over him. . But his passion and the love of his life was my beautiful mother. .They were stunning together. He had a personal power and agency that others did not trifle with and by extension they did not trifle with his family.. He provided safety and security and commanded respect.which gave us a certain level of freedom - freedom from fear and a certain level of confidence. Having a strong man as father is not something I take for granted - it is a privilege afforded to fewer and fewer children. God bless and long live the strong men!
I guess I also want to add that it is easy to idealize his life - but he struggled too. His way of containing his emotions was to keep an certain emotional distance, being a leader can be lonely business. High blood pressure and other stress related illnesses were also the order of the day for men. Strong men sacrificed a lot, they shoulder the burden so their family does not have to.
Wow you really wrote something beautiful. I had an Italian-American father as you described..❤
Polo, if I were to characterize his demeanor, it's, "I'm in complete control." Of the song, the audience, and life.
I think I disagree. he's under stress, and he's pretending to be in complete control and for the most part, people are buying it. he's pulling it off.
@@axolotl8694 I have said for years that people chase cool, but few ever really catch it. McQueen, Miles Davis, Maybe Brad Pitt. But for certain Sinatra caught it and had it mounted over his fireplace. "I've got the world on a string, sitting on a rainbow, got that string around my finger. What a world, what a life....." It always seemed Sinatra didn't only own the songs he sang, but lived them.
ruclips.net/video/TeDfgUvyKHk/видео.html
@@axolotl8694 demeanor doesn't mean inner feelings
@@zennenn true, it's a performance, but the man had a background where he was the first big pop music sensation, crowd control problems, screaming girls every place he went, the whole bit. So this performance could been just like walking around in some ways, except for the filming, he performed it so often.
Wow! My dad (may he Rest In Peace) turned me and my siblings on to ole blue eyes back in the 70's by turning him on every Friday night and hearing him in almost every room in the house and out (intercom system). i have a special place in my Italian heart for Frank. Thanks for the memories!
Howdy from Texas, from an elder white lady who has heard a lot of amazing music and musicians. I learned a long time ago to breathe the music, great is great... has no color, no genre, no style, no age... it just IS. From this genre of crooners, we recently lost one of the greats, Tony Bennett. For a kick in the head, try anything with Tony Bennett and Lady Gaga or Amy Winehouse. He was suffering from Alzheimers at the end... sometimes lost and bewildered, sometimes couldn't remember he had JUST performed yet when the music began, he was completely Tony the masterful entertainer.
For the record, my number one is the man whose music saved my life by being a lifeline through hard times... Elton John. If I can pop a recommendation from his expansive catalog, give this one a spin... the album version... 1973's double album Goodbye Yellow Brick Road. The first track... Funeral For a Friend/Love Lies Bleeding. and if you forget to stop the playing and catch Candle in the Wind about Marilyn Monroe, just fall into the harmonies and enjoy the ride.
Also thanks for introducing me to a few artists as well. ✌ peace
Fly me to the moon! One of Frank's best!
My Dad and my favorite song. Dad took me to Vegas to see Frank in concert at the Golden Nugget 1986. He was amazing! Ole Blue Eyes is a legend! Sang like a poet. He knew what inflection was all about. And quite an interesting life. Loved Frank as much as Dad did..❤️✌🏼
Ol' Blue Eyes, the King of Cool.
And Ole Blue Eyes was known as the king of phrasing...
"Summer Wind" is a great one to check out by Sinatra! And of Course "My Way"👌😎🏴🇬🇧
I agree with all the comments here and to add that he was very generous to his friends and strangers.
My generation everybody knew Frank Sinatra. I studied english because of Sinatra songs. I just wanted to understand his songs. ( Marco from Brazil)
He sings just like a guy who's had one too many....and it's so brilliant
There’s that patience again, letting lyric breathe, masterful!
I remember Frank. I'd heard a few of his songs but never really listened. Then, about twenty years ago, i came across " It was a very good year. 12:07 12:07 " it absolutely blew me away. He is absolute class
Please do more of Frank 😊
His phrasing is magical
Yes.
You can see with this song why it was so natural for him to go into acting.
(Getting an academy award for his role in "From Here to Eternity")
Polo, you have selected a good one here. This tune takes me back to my younger days. A great Sinatra tune. I've sat on that bar stool. Ha!
They don't make them like they used to. Frank Sinatra was such a smooth crooner. This is before auto tuning. Artists had to be really able to sing. And the lyrics were clean, romantic & really meant something. He has a huge library of great songs. Some of my favorites are "Fly Me To The Moon", "New York, New York", "My Way", "Strangers In The Night", "I've Got You Under My Skin", "That's Life", "My Kind Of Town", "Summer Wind" etc. And he did a duet with his daughter Nancy called "Something Stupid" in 1967.
🥰🥰🥰
In palm springs, where he kept a house , the local radio station played only Sinatra, 24/7, nothing else. this went on for many years even after his death, the guy had talent.
1 i would add to that is "the way you look tonight"
And notice the respect given by the audience to the artist’s rendition of the song. Complete silence and attention, no cat calls or hoots.
I was lucky to see Sinatra back in 1973. Sinatra was just plain class.
I did too around that time at USO benefit! Sinatra was Excellent.
From cool jazz 'Summerwind' to tearjerker 'Im a Fool to Want You' to standard 'You Go to My Head', so many more...
Sinatra was also an actor in radio and movies. He had a vital role in the movie "From Here to Eternity". He had several movie roles over about 30 years or so and was always backed by some of the best orchestras and musicians that the recording studios could provide.
Great respect for you, for being so open minded to listen to artists you're not familiar with, whose music you might not like, yet you surprise yourself by finding new music and singers you love. That's just wonderful! And your critiques are so thoughtful and specific - you really notice the subtleties of a performance. I truly enjoy watching your videos! I just subscribed. Keep up the great work and exploration!
“A very good year” is magnificent
The video in studio recording it 👍
I loved all the rat pack
My mom's favorite! Thanks for bringing some old, warm memories of my dad singing along with Sinatra to my mom.
Lost dad in 1993 and mom in 2007 and this brought them right back.
Thanks again for the company ❤ listening All night long . ✌️ Polo....
Buddy, you're an old soul. I can feel it in your voice and vibe. I'm a boomer, and like you, Frank was even a little before my time, and yet I loved his music and his demeanor. He just grows on you.
Missed this video when it first came out. I love that performance by Frank Sinatra. I agree that there are some things missing in today's society that we had at one time. Class, manners, respect for other people, honesty and honorability.
This is one of those classic songs recorded by so many great artists. It's written by well-known songwriters Harold Arlen and Johnny Mercer. Ella Fitzgerald does a gorgeous version of this as well.
In 1986 I told my New-Wave-Punk girlfriend we were going to see Sinatra on his farewell tour. She sneered and said "that's old people's music" so I had to bribe her with dinner at the restaurant of her choice. Frank held the audience in the palm of his hand and the memory of the roaring applause when he capped off the show with "New York, New York" still gives me the chills, and my old girlfriend still thanks me to this day for taking her.
More cool than any ONE man should EVER have. Sinatra was the King.
Just opened up a Frank Sinatra Theme Bar in Nashville Tennessee
POLO! Gotta check out his catalog. For the next one (it brings a change of pace), I recommend Fly Me to the Moon.
I really wanted to see this reaction. Sinatra was the biggest pop singer in America from his 20s until the day he died.
Since your an Elvis fan also
Sinarta has Elvis on his TV show and they sing a duet. You should find
(sorry I don't remember)and check out
My Way
Great reaction to one of a kind.
The song most identified with Sinatra to me and I believe most fans is the epic, amazing My Way!
Hi Polo, that’s just pure cool. Frank lived this music in real life. Thanks mate, cheers Neil
You Make Me Feel So Young, I've Got You Under My Skin and Don'cha Go 'Way Mad are just three of an endless list of my favorites. ❤
As an Italian American I say thank you for your kind thoughts and words regarding Italians.
My favorite Frank Sinatra song! It was featured in a movie entitled Young At Heart with Frank and Doris Day. The scene of Frank singing this song is excellent. Thank you for sharing this one. 🙂
The greatest musician ever, that’s who!
My mother was a Sinatra fan and i Elvis. They did a duet together in 1960 when Elvis just got out of the army and Sinatra put together a welcome home show for him. It's available on RUclips video. This was the only time Presley ever sang on stage with someone although ironically he sang a duet with Frank's daughter, Nancy, in a movie.
Beautiful reaction! Love what you said about the melody and lyrics having chemistry 💗
I know about Frank Sinatra. I grew up on that man (and I was born in the 1980's 😄). Actually the whole Rat Pack. Dean Martin & Sammy Davis, Jr. may be two other artists worth checking out if you have not already.
Yes, Frank Sinatra has skeletons in his closet like everybody else does.
I prefer to let the man rest in peace. I'm here for the music!
Loved this reaction!
I've been subscribed to your channel for... I think over a year, if not close to two years.
I just hardly ever comment haha!
Peace ✌, light 🌞, love 💖, & blessings 🙏 to you & yours & to one & all here as well 💕
There is a live performance of My Way on YT - 1975 or so - that is just so good, you won't believe it. His timing, his phrasing, that big voice....it is all wonderful.
Big fan of Frank Sinatra! Yes, more of his songs. This is an intimate song, Frank is singing to a bartender at the end of a night in a bar.
I love Sinatra to chill or clean by. Love the stories of the Rat Pack and their Vegas performances, worth checking out...live at it's best.
Love all his music, but this is so real and melancholy. One of the best. How can I say that? They're all the BEST. Just put a cd on and listen all the way through.
Love him singing My Funny Valentine, Which I did not discover or appreciate until I heard Elvis Costello sing it.
Love ❤️ frank
“Sinatra at the Sands with Count Basie and his Orchestra,” the one from 1966, is a top 5 album released in the 20th century. The artistry that these two greats (Basie as an experienced and strong bandleader, Sinatra at his vocal peak) bring is life changing.
I enjoyed your Sinatra reaction. You should check out the great Maria Callas singing "la mamma morta". Talk about chills!!!
Music of Baby Boomers was off the chart, Sinatra, Martin, Armstrong, Count Basie, Les Brown, Cab Calloway, Ray Conniff, Bing Crosby, Jimmy & Tommy Dorsey, Duke Ellington, Dizzy Gillespie, Benny Goodman, Harry James, Henry Mancini, Glen Miller, Sammy Kaye, Artie Shaw, Doc Severinsen, Lawrence Welk, Sons of the Pioneers, Gene Autry, Roy Rogers, Dale Evans. Hank Williams, Johnny Cash, Patsy Cline, Marty Robbins, Johnny Horton, Don Gibson, Tennessee Ernie Ford, Jim Reeves, Kitty Wells, Hank Snow, George Jones, Ray Charles, Ray Price, Jerry Lee Lewis, Bill Haley, Carl Perkins, Buddy Holley, The Big Bopper, Eddie Cochran, Elvis Presley, Gene Vincent, Chuck Berry, Gene Vincent, Beatles, Rolling Stones, Four Seasons, Temptations, Four Tops, Supremes, Smokey Robinson, Stevie Wonder, …., the list has only begone.
Pure class. That piano though. Now do ‘It had to be you’….great reaction!
I’ve always loved FS but recently saw his rendition of “Ol Man River” & it was a different side of him. Try some of his stuff with Tommy Dorsey (Big Band) 1940’s sound. A Sinner Kissed an Angel 💜💜💜
"Moonlight In Vermont" is a classic. Of course, he has lots of classics. 🙂
Loved it!!! Always like to hear/see Frank. Thx for sharing
Frank’s best song.
I loved this - thanks.
Trumpeter Chris Botti, on tour, played a stop in Boston and called upon John Meyer to join him in a cover of an old Sinatra tune, Glad To Be Unhappy. John carried the vocal with a sensitivity to Sinatra's phrasing and style. I would love to see your reaction to it.
You could find it on RUclips -
Glad to Be Unhappy Chris Botti
Live in Boston.
Peace -
When I was 17
Janynisgottagun , IT WAS A VERY GOOD YEAR , when I was 17 ,
Ooooh, yes! A great one
Love this... Im literally crying and crying right now.. my dad used to spend every Sunday ... his day off .. as he was a mailman of 30+ yrs. ..he would sing with the albums, 8 tracks & cassettes of Sinatra and all the boys of the day and the ladies too ... the whole day was a musical magical day .. as he cooked a dinner that was truly from scratch and amazing ..he cooked every day as my dear beautiful mom had Multiple Sclerosis and no longer could... he was an amazing cook for sure.. and truly sounded as well as Sinatra himself.. he took care of her until she passed away (1999in the very home he was born in .. in 1920 ..and we 5 kids lived in as youngsters... he loved us so much .. ) but I was gifted that it gave me all the appreciation i have for music... as well as my sons too ... my son was little and sang along too as my dad played guitar .. my son grew up self-taught in many instruments, and his band toured all over the states .. the house of blue every wear, as well as a very extensive tour of Brazil & Europe ... a gypsy punk .. roots band ... he put on hold being a new dad as of now 😊honestly he sounded so much like him it was spooky... we played "I Did it My Way" at funeral several yrs ago .. he was strong 86.. I miss them so so so much ... especially when I'm going through soon much devastation right now...
Polo I'm happy you have a beautiful son to have and give your love to ... as he has you.. the beauty in that is the precious thing to have ... and what makes it even more exceptional.. is that you took love that you should of had as a son yourself and made it into more love now than ppl have in a lifetime ... so that makes you a beautiful person...
When I listen to this song I'm transported to a dive bar in NYC!! Ill lit, smokey, and filled with the smell of stale beer, and down at the end of the bar a male patron in bent forward in deep conversation with the bartender!
Frank Sinatra and Dean Martin Are a core memory of my childhood as a Italian American❤
Dean Martin for the epitome of Italian culture!!!
Great selection! Also great reaction! ❤
Polo, Thank You for this Wonderful Track. Frank Sinatra is a True Legend. The music he Recorded was Always so Heartfelt. Growing up in an Italian Household, I really never paid much attention to a lot of the music being played in the house. I was too much into being a Kid. As I got older and started having kids of my own, something Brought me to All of this 40’s Music. I really don’t know what it was, but I Absolutely Love all of this music including Big Band Tommy Dorsey & Glenn Miller.
All this Music Back Then is Second to None.
I Guess that’s why They always said that it was the Greatest Generation!!!!
I really apreciate the way you're sensitive and sensible, and also open minded to every kind of music (led zep, janis joplin, sinatra...). Stay like you are 👍
Thank you for your reaction vlog on Frank Sinatra. If you plan to react to more of his recordings or live shows, check out: his "Goodbye" on RUclips. The song is absolutely superbly written by Gordon Jenkins and recorded first by Benny Goodman in 1935. Sinatra's vocal was recorded for "Frank Sinatra Sings For Only The Lonely" which was released in 1958.
Now you're getting into it. Since you're interested, here are a few songs I think you might want to listen to if you haven't already. "Summer Wind", "Let's Face the Music and Dance", "The World We Knew", "I've got you under my skin", "Come Fly with Me", "The Way You Look Tonight", "I've Got the World on a String", "Day and Night", "It Could Happen to You", "Nice and Easy", "You'll Never Walk Alone", "Pennies from Heaven". As you said, you're well and familiar with Frank, but those are my favs.
It's also worth looking into specific collaborations. In my opinion, Frank's best recordings are all with the Nelson Riddle Orchestra, and a few with Quincy Jones. Frank recorded the same songs with multiple different Orchestras, Composers and Arrangers. His recordings of those songs with Nelson Riddle are by far his best. His voice was the strongest and the arrangements the most inspired. After listening, let me know if you agree.
And since you're going down this road, it's well worth listening to Dinah Washington (all of it), Shirley Bassey, Mel Torme (Round Midnight, Comin Home Baby), Sarah Vaughan, Helen Merrill (Comes Love), Roy Hamilton, Louis Prima, The Coasters (Three Cool Cats), Bobby Darin (Beyond the Sea), Brenda Lee (Sweet Nothin's), Jimmie Rodgers (Kisses Sweeter than Wine), Nilla Pizzi (Quizas, Quizas, Quizas), and many more. If you ask me, I'll send you a massive curated playlist.
He’s playing the part of an inebriated guy in a bar who lost his lover. Try “In The Wee Small Hours of the Morning”
OH POLO! He is SO SWOONY!!!! One of my favorites!
Strangers in the Night and New York New York are two of my favorite Sinatra songs ❤️🔥🔥
I love all types of music, but to me Sinatra is the best of the best. He fully embodied every song he performed! So many suggestions to pick from! I would start with Summer wind, the way you look tonight, or the best is yet to come.
One of my favorites by him.
One of the best singers of the 20th century in any genre. Hugely skilled, but he preferred to make it look easy. He could sing breathing in and breathing out (a technique he learned from trumpeter Harry James). He wrung the meaning out of every song he sang.
Got to love a guy that wears a tux to work every night. He was the man.
A couple of his signature songs that's life, my way, and strangers in the night
Thank you for going down this very worthwhile rabbit hole. Keep it coming.
You choose a good one to start with.
He is Mr. Cool!
HI POLO GREETINGS FROM ENGLAND 🇬🇧 FRANK SINATRA IS AN ICON AND THE GREATEST SINGER/ ENTERTAINER OF THE 20th CENTURY AND WAS KNOWN AS OLD BLUE EYES AND BEING ITALIAN HE HAD STRONG CONNECTIONS TO THE MAFIA. HE WAS ALSO A GREAT ACTOR AND IT WAS SAID THAT THE CHARACTER OF JOHNNY FONTAINE IN THE GODFATHER WAS BASED ON FRANK SINATRA.
SINATRA WAS KING OF THE CROONERS AND HE HAS RECORDED SO MANY CLASSIC SONGS 🎵 AND CHECKOUT " THATS LIFE" WHICH IS ONE OF SINATRAS GREATEST SONGS.
A great rendition of this song. He was a great performer -Strangers in the Night -
Mr. Polo, Are you sure you are not part Italiano? You have helped me through some difficult times and I love you. Mr. Polo, I learned to love Sinatra and he takes me to church; pure love and joy. Let me know where I can send a contribution. God sent you to me.
Hey Polo ~ Frank is one of the greatest singers who ever lived. He was an amazing stylist, as you can see from this performance, where he gives us all of the facial and movement expressions that fit the song so perfectly. You can pick most any song from his vast catalog and come up a winner.
Frank Sinatra is great! And that CD package you will like. Wishbone Ash was good music!
In my opinion.....Greatest male storyteller singer EVER!!!
