@@DJRickWeb Oh ok... I thought that was what you were talking about having a second transmitter in the room for wireless DMX. Anywho, still love to see a video on that as well!
The app actually works REALLY well. Your phone becomes a wifi remote and let's you change the lights from anywhere in the room. No need to have to point the remote at the master.
No they are not. You will need a China based transmitter. Such as the ones on our website. You can plug a chauvet dfi receiver into a both lighting transmitter and it will work tho... check out the complete video I made on wireless dmx for more info
great video Rick. I have the Ape Maxi first generation and some Eternal Cube Echo's as well. Definitely considering these lights. Can you run them from your phone or tablet via App control?
I'm super excited to get my hands on some of these. I've been looking for a suitable wireless solution to add some accent lighting to my DJ setup that won't break the bank. I've still been using ADJ megabars with wires, and I'm sick of dealing with them. I love ApeLabs but not willing to throw down that kind of money since my intended purpose is not going to make any money back. This price sounds way more reasonable! Thanks for the great review
I have been doing the upside down loading for charging with the top closed for 4 years now. No issues. Love the cable management, definitely doing that this weekend. The rotating the top is something I wish I would have know years ago. Always thought they were done backwards and hated lights facing out.
When I use an ADJ Airstream DMX Bridge and the Donner wireless transmitter only (not the dongle) on these, I thought there HAD to be a master with the DMX address and the rest in slave mode for this to work. But if I set the DMX address on each light and put them all in slave mode (no master), it works. That make sense?
Thats mainly an action taken by the user. You dont just set the light as a slave or master. If they are on the dmx screen and recieve no input from a dmx source or a ir remote they go to slave. If you input signal from a ir remote it goes into master mode.
you would know this... does nyone make a 180 degree up light. meaning the spread is like half a circle, so you dont have to bring many and do they make a battery powered one? Thanks
There is a light that has diodes facing in like 4 directions that does basically that. The probablem is the light its even and you can see the tri beam of the diodes

That’s just asking for clients to second guess our pricing. Djs helping the race to the bottom $. I personally want my client to know how hard I work for them, not how easy it is.
You're doing the same thing you're cringing at others for. According to your logic you should be using the large halogen fixtures still because apparently you don't want your pars to be easy to carry in. End of the day you're all still providing a lightshow. Makes no sense to judge others for wanting to make load ins easier.
S4 seems much bigger but probably best for showcasing certain areas of a venue with pillars etc. Do these and the S4s work on the same remote controller?

S4 can normally do 2 to 2.5 shows no problem. Ir-4 about 1.5 to 2 shows. Long term the s4 batteries have proven to be solid up to 5 years with minimul change in overal life. The ir-4 is brand new and long term testing will need to be done to see the effects in 2+ years

Love the content Rick. Anyone know if it is possible to get any of the both up lights to talk to Chauvet DFi signal? I know I can plug in a DFi receiver but what if there is no DMX input. Can it work with Both Wireless channels?
Thank you for this Rick... I know you're talking about the new IR-4s specifically so I'm sure there are differences. Maybe this should have gone in the S and Sm line comparison video, this is the only video that shows any Both lighting uplights' menu and remotes. I use my new S6 Mini's (thank you for hooking it up) with the Rekordbox RB-DMX1 interface and I am comfortable enough with their performance, but I think I can get better performance out of them once I tweak the software more. Not sure if it's the function of the lighting unit itself or the RB-DMX interface. You mention something about the lack of punch in color change mode in a previous video. Did you manage to figure out what it was? For example, the strobe signal from RB gets a quicker strobe than the fastest setting (99) on the unit's menu. Regarding this video, I've noticed some discrepancies when comparing the IR-4 to the S6m. I can't figure out these menu items on the S6m: - L - on/off - what does this do? - G - on/off - I think this is the wireless DMX on/off) - A### - what does this do? Remote on the S6m: - no "Slave" button on the remote. - no cycle buttons - no speed/sensitivity buttons - no Pulse button Sound Mode: - The manual says there are 4 modes but there is nothing to indicate which specific mode I've selected. - There does not seem to be an indication nor adjustment ability for sound sensitivity. - Using the remote's up/down buttons seems to do nothing on some lights and adjusts the brightness on others. Questions: - If each light is on the same wireless channel, can they be set to different DMX channels to use Master/Slave mode? - Is there a way to save a customized color to access it another time? Can it be accessed on the unit and/or the remote?
Does the "SLAVE" light stay on if it is a slave or does it go off and remain a slave. Or when the slave word pops up do ypou hit enter? thanks for the tutorial
Anyone by chance have a good set of values for producing a champagne color or candlelight color with these lights? Values seem to be a little different than your 0-255 DMX standard for color mixing. Any help would greatly be appreciated! Thanks!
Like you, I think I would prefer the larger S4 for uplighting, but the IR-4 looks like it would make an ideal truss warmer if you narrowed the spread a bit.
When it comes down to business the cost of light trumps all. I have no major issues or complaints with the lgihts so i will not consider spending 4x for a light that i wont make anymore money with
@@DJRickWeb That’s not the point of getting an Ape Labs product. The point is to have actual experience with the genuine product so you can fairly compare them.
Squaaad!! These look incredible! Two questions if you don’t mind. 1) I know you mentioned the wireless range so do you think that the signal from the master in master slave mode would reach all the slave lights in a large wedding ballroom type venue? 2) Can you control brightness via remote in the various modes as well? Or is brightness control only possible during the solid color modes. Thanks!!
Wow these are impressive. I just was looking at the Rockville Mini RF4 which look similar but rather than DMX screen have the RF control with 4 different groupings, like Ape Labs. Any idea if Both lighting has something in the works that’s similar? I’m deciding between those Rockville and the IR4 right now!

good review and comparison! I watched the RF-04 review last week and this pop-up in my list... should we expect with antenna soon since you highlighted this missing item? :) but again great stuff!
Because you can do master slave with rf. As every light in a rf setup acts as a master. With ir you put at the one master to avoid having multiple masters. Which multiple masters would lead to light confusion
I just did, too. Did you receive a confirmation email with an ETA (and/or a tracking number)? I just received a "thank you for your order, we'll let you know when the lights ship" and that's it. No idea if the units are in stock or if there's a 6 month lead time. My CC however was charged instantly...
@@Realdjheisenberg I recall an update stating these new IR-4s will ship on March 1st. I don’t see the update here or on the website though. C’mon Rick 😬😂
@@DJRickWeb Thanks for the reply. Is good to make clear that the red channel on the RF4s is actually the cyan channel. The transmitter on red and the RF4 on Cyan for it to connect. (Sorry if I missed that on the video, sometimes I skip 😅)
@@DJRickWeb cool. I have many small parties where I bring 4 or 8 s4s and just light up around my gear and that’s the basic lighting for the gig. I would get 8 of these IR4s to use as basic lighting and keep the 16 S4s for around the room
It would be awsome if you could compare the Rockville Mini RF4 with the Bothlighting IR-4. The Rockville have RF remote and 4 different groups (just like the ape labs), but no DMX address. The bothlighting IR-4 have DMX address but only IR remote. From what I can tell none can do both DMX and master-slave at the same time, so if you control them using wireless DMX, you're out of luck once they are out of range. The ape labs have infinite range (the fixtures speak to each other). It's really a tough choice, but all in all I believe the Bothlighting IR-4 do offer the best compromise solution. The only draw back I see with them is the limited range when using the wireless DMX. If you are not using wireless DMX, then the Rockville Mini RF4 are the obvious choice because the remote does everything and you can set up 4 different groups, like the Ape labs. Both of them have limited range and don't seem to "talk" to each other, so that's a wash. So in my mind: wireless controler = Bothlighting is the winner. Remote control = Rockville is the winner. If cost is not an issue, Ape Labs is the winner.
This is 💯 I think you hit the nail on the head. Great breakdown!! I’m personally trying to avoid wireless DMX to keep things simple for my solo op if I can so was leaning towards Rockville’s. I heard from another DJ that the Rockville’s do the same color changes, fades, jumps etc within their groups when they are in specific modes but I haven’t tested that out. I may buy the Rockville’s and see if the lights really do coordinate within their groups. If they don’t, I’ll go with the IR4s and their master slave IR function to control lights with the master near me (though like you mention I worry about DMX signal range with master slave when the master is right next to me).
I think if the goal is to use wireless DMX then there’s no comparison - IR4 is the winner. The IR4 master slave functionality also does leave the option for remote control only use so that’s nice to have. Similarly, the Rockville RF4 Mini has its limited wireless DMX on channel 01 in case someone would ever want to do basic DMX as well. So it’s like they each do one thing (DMX for IR4 and remote for Rockville) well, but still have work arounds.
The rockville rf-4 is the both lighting rf-4 as both lighting makes all the lights for rockville......... and that is not true about the rockville rf-4. The RF -4 does have dmx it works on the red wireless channel and dmx channel 1 only. The rf-4 remote has a shorter range than the master slave range on the ir-4 so having one master beside you will be better. Plus with the rf-4 when you activate sound active they all do there own thing. Vs the ir-4 in master slave they all copy the master. So remote should 100% be ir-4 winner
I think the S4's look so much sleeker. I prefer the appearance of those to the bulkier S6's. I think they look more modern and less obtrusive, you could probably charge more $$ for uplighting now lol On a serious note I love the fact that you can now change the channel and they fixed the remote/sound active synced issue and they are available in white! Def need to order a couple cases of these ones now.

@@Realdjheisenberg I did get a purchase confirmation. These new lights ship March 1st. Check email for a tracking number on or after March 1st.
@@Realdjheisenberg I recall an update stating these new IR-4s will ship on March 1st. I don’t see the update here or on the website though. C’mon Rick 😬😂
I mention it in the video.
Please help. Why My RF4s can't seem to connect with the Donner transmitter? They're on the dmx channel and nothing
Correct dmx color group?
@@DJRickWeb Thanks for the reply. Is good to make clear that the red channel on the RF4s is actually the cyan channel. The transmitter on red and the RF4 on Cyan for it to connect. (Sorry if I missed that on the video, sometimes I skip 😅)
Would love to see the Muisc mode or "pulse mode" in the R4 MKIII....hint hint
Its pretty cool
Has anyone tried using the Chauvet D-Fi transmitter with these?
Squad 🤘🏼

Bothlightingusa.com
i recety got ten inch tops it say its 126 db but ist not what do i do
Not sure the question?
Squad! The popularity of these lights broke the interwebs. When I tried to order it told me the price for 8 was 7 grand.
Thanks for your feedback
Congratulations 🎁
I got some Dj gear for you,
SQUAD. I want to see the S4 and the IR4 working together with DMX. Make sure the timing is the same.
Did it this weekend. Looked spot on. Further testing to come
@@DJRickWeb cool. I have many small parties where I bring 4 or 8 s4s and just light up around my gear and that’s the basic lighting for the gig. I would get 8 of these IR4s to use as basic lighting and keep the 16 S4s for around the room
That would be a solid use for them. I plan on adding 8 for this purpose then in the future maybe going all or depending on how I feel
SQUAD 🔥🔥🔥🔥
Why would they drop the RF remote????
Becasue range sucks in comparison to master slave wifi range.
Will this work with the ADJ dmx go?
Absolutely. Just need a wireless transmitter. Bothlightingusa.com
Squad!
Are the batteries replaceable?
Not easy swap. But can take apart and repace battery if needed
Will they work with the wolfmix DMX?
Idk what that is.
ADJ Wolfmix
Yes
Yep they will
It would be awsome if you could compare the Rockville Mini RF4 with the Bothlighting IR-4.
@@avmusic9598 couldn’t agree more
The rockville rf-4 is the both lighting rf-4 as both lighting makes all the lights for rockville......... and that is not true about the rockville rf-4.
The rockvilles are the same thing as both lighting rf-4 as both lighting makes the lights for rockville.
I think the S4's look so much sleeker. I prefer the appearance of those to the bulkier S6's. I think they look more modern and less obtrusive, you could probably charge more $$ for uplighting now lol
On a serious note I love the fact that you can now change the channel and they fixed the remote/sound active synced issue and they are available in white! Def need to order a couple cases of these ones now.

Hey can u make a video on your sound switch.
Why u switch from show express to sound switch?
Do these lights have soundswitch preset channels? With the moving heads.
Can u control the sparks from soundswitch?
Yes yes yes yes to all above
What's the difference between the RF1 and RF1 V2?
No rf-1 v2. Only rf-4 v2 which is called the ir-4
