GUYS! I KNOW THIS ISNT AUDIO RELATED BUT IM TRYING TO KEEP IT ALL UNDER THE PRODUCTION PLAYLIST. NEXT WE ARE GOING TO COVER SNAKES AND NETWORKING! OH BTW.....THANKS FOR 10K SUBSCRIBERS. YOU GUYS ARE THE BEST!
Waiting for the next one, I’m one of those who used to think that mic cables and light cables were the same ones. This series is really teaching me a ton about production, I’m a musician but there are times when I have to get involved in production too. Thanks man
hey, I know this is a old video, I do think that at some point, you could show us what training you put your lighting techs through, almost like a vlog style vid or just having the cam on while it's goin on
Love your gear run through videos, John. It's always fun comparing what others are using and what they think. Keep up the good work and congratulations on breaking 10,000 subs!!!
Its very tough out there.. I started 5 years ago with sound and just was a dead end for me. I started learning about lighting and trussing about 2 years ago and started a small investment of GT and my business greatly improved in AZ. I try to stay away from the china stuff so yeah, very expensive to have an inventory of the US companies. Tomcat trussing is very nice! Great video John! My LD guys like to use the AVO consoles like the TMO and the TigerTouch and I just rent them..
Your side rant is spot on. Yes, super expensive and skill heavy. That's why we're called "production engineers". Folks think it's all about the gear. Haha. As far as your gear lineup being trash, remember...you must crawl before you walk. You seem to be off to good jog. Work the gear you have to the optimum. Event producers ask for stuff they see the big boys with and usually aren't willing to pay for it. Work with what you have and before you know it you'll big running with the big dogs as well. Again, job well done young man.
Thank you John for your honesty and I also like how you have not just stayed with one manufacturer and got what has best suited the need. Have you gotten into video walls at all? Do you have information/knowledge to share on that
Great vídeo. Could you upload a few examples of use? It seems a looot of lights for a dj. I wonder how you put these all together. Thanks and congratulations
There's also CTB and CTO (color temperature blue and color temperature orange). DMX is a whole other universe...no pun intended. It's the industry standard control protocol for lighting, I would look heavily into it on RUclips and the internet in general, it's been covered as nauseum :)
Please show a full setup demonstration, hookups/cableing specific parts and all the routing involved (Or just record your setup for a show sometime haha)
Man! That's a lot of shit bro. I know you say you're a small fry but damn, you've got way more than I do so I'm impressed. What really impresses me is your knowledge though. I always learn something from your vids. Thanks for being a straight shooter.
Hazers? You have to check out The Radience Hazer. A jug of juice is expensive but lasts forever. In one club I use it in, it takes me a year to go through a jug and thats using them every friday and saturday night 9-2am. Great even haze and one hazer will do a 24 x 16ft stage easily..... Another important thing...They wont set off fire alarms....Theatres use these every where as not only are the good haze but, they do not effect the singers voice. Also, you can clean the heater section and self service it when they get gummed up.......Years of use never had a pump fail although, the odd supply hose comes off..I retro in some mini tie straps and fixed.
Sad to see people still buy Chinese sharpy knock offs when reputable sources sell actually used CP units at only a slightly more expensive cost than the Chinese alternatives. Also not to be rude but love how he calls a Legend 575 big and heavy. Ever seen a Viper or CP Alpha 1500 there those are industry standards and are just massive (90-100lbs and about 3ft tall)
I love this industry and how it forces itself to be ridiculously expensive for no good reason. It's only industry standard because someone who's already spent millions says so to protect their investment. It's like sorority girls disrespecting someone because they only spent $100 on their trainers. Don't get sucked into the hype. The Chinese copy sharply is becoming the standard because you can get 10 for about $4000 compared to 1 genuine. Also from a physics point of view - multi stranded copper cable is the same - we're talking about preferred electronic resistance at the digital unit in the DMX vs mic cable argument. And again, the gear that we use at our level is more tolerant than high end stuff. To not get too technical it's like Cisco making a telephone that's supposed to support an industry standard protocol - it's less compatible than vendors like Grandstream or Polycom - why - so you have to buy their other hardware. No amount of advertising works in this industry, its 95% referrals.
I don't know about this . . . I have some really cheap chinese DMX lights, and they have been all kinds of trouble in a DMX chain. I've also got 8 Chauvet fixtures, and I've only ever had ONE problem. And the Chauvet dealer repaired the light at no cost, even though it was WAY out of warranty. That kind of support is important.

In my opinion sharpys as a ground package is nicer then a profile. Id put the 550s in the rig and sharpys on the ground ;)
Would love to know your approach on marketing your business. 👍🏼

How many lights should i need for house parties? I have 2 par and 2 mini kinta is that enough?
In summary: If you’d like to get into the production industry, you’ll need to sell a kidney and rob a bank🤣🤣
Jackwagon Just work for a company!
Do the pars & led bar lights come with road cases or is that a separate purchase?
Separate purchase.
How have the Rasha stuff held up for you?
Great!
How much for the 3800 stands? I am interested.
What's the name of the overseas lighting manufacturer? Rasha International?

Just a note to say you have lost some lbs. Looking good.
Thanks for noticing! I’m trying to get right!
Those 550 spots aren't very big........
"medium doody, heavy doody..." thats alot of doody!

If you are just joining this industry then protect your ears. I am only 14 but already damaged my ears.
