This Grand Seiko design comes from their Seiko Navigator Timer ref. 6117-8000 released in the 60's, a few years before the first Explorer II was released (1971)
Rolex is the leader of brand recognition so to a lot of people every watch out there resembles a Rolex somehow, but what I like to point out is Rolex takes design elements from other watches as well, just these watches are less known to the public. Hence, to the average person, the SBGN003 ‘looks like’ an Explorer II. When in reality it’s borrowing from its own rich heritage. And really the only thing I see is that they both have an engraved bezel, as did the Gylcine airman, and the Breguet type XX, etc. After that the case shape, markers, etc. are uniquely Grand Seiko.
Nice man you have grown quite a bit. Congrats on being over 5K subscribers. I just traded in my Seiko MM300 for this watch I can't wait for it to get here.
Oh yes...I would have done that deal mate...am looking to get a MM300 homage soon for review. Would that be of interest, especially as you had owned one..?
@@TheWatchChannelAU I liked the watch but I wish it was a little thinner. Being that thick and shiny draws too much attention. Mine was running +15 and that bugged me a lot. For $2,000 I think a watch should be cosc certified. The 8L35 is consistent but you better hope you get one of the ones that keeps better time. Mine was +15 no matter what position. I've seen some reviews of those San Martin homages and they look pretty good.
Nice review. 👍 So the case diameter is 39mm, but what's the actual dial diameter? Can't find this info anywhere. I have quite small wrists so even though the case proportions would fit me, I'm not a fan of a big dial overpowering my wrist. Many thanks!
@@TheWatchChannelAU 31/21? What kind of measurement is that? 😆 I'm assuming you mean 31 to 32mm? If so that's great. Think my biggest watch dial is around 32mm.

Gorgeous! I want one.
Just ordered mine yesterday, can't wait to get it!
Just purchased this piece. Can’t wait to get it. 😉
A man of style and class obviously! :)
What are your opinions on the lack of micro-adjustment in the clasp?
It’s a b*tch. You only have full links and half links, for me it’s always either a tiny bit tight or too loose.

Hey Mark,
The dial diameter is about 31/21mm.
Hope that helps?

Nice watch but I prefer sbgn005 because 003 reminds me too much of explorer
Does it need any service?

The thumping base is annoying
