Excellent and very informative video, thank you. I fully agree with your implied, 'pass' assessment reasoning. The GMT not having a quickset was unexpectedhave. All in all, it did seem like you had an enjoyable mission accomplished and with pay. Fun to watch, thanks again.
the bezel is a Glycine inspiration not Rolex. The Glycine Airman 24hour bezel, although rotatable, predates the the 1971 EXP2 24hr fixed bezel by almost 20ish years. If you look at the RLX 216570 it suspiciously, your words, looks like the Glycine Airman 1953 AmPm.
You make a good argument. Still, the SBGM001 overall looks more Ex.2 than Airman. When it comes to the bezel on the GS, the arrowheads (triangles) have the thinness of the Airman's, but not the length. The triangle length (and size relative to the bezel) is more Ex.2. The font on the bezel of the SBGM001 is nearly identical to the font on the Ex.2 16570, which was the model in production when the GS was designed and released. The GS's bezel is fixed like the Ex.2 (which you acknowledge), but it's also smooth like the EX.2. The Airman's had coin edging for grip. Then there's the similarity in terms of number of hands, and the functionality of the movement is 100% the same as the Explorer 2. A good case could be make that Rolex borrowed from the Airman. But I don't think the people at GS even had the Airman on their radar; they were clearly modeling the SBGM001 on the Rolex 16570.
I have an SBGE211 and there’s only one thing I like about GS more than Rolex, it’s the case work. Seeing GS case mastery ruined by an independent is not a good sign. Almost any Rolex feels pedestrian in comparison to it, also like you Austin, I agree that going GS route should be only Spring Drive. This piece and it’s Explorer homage just doesn’t cut it.
This gets a thumbs up just for the contempt in your voice describing the fixed bezel. haha This was a great video and an awesome concept that I hope get utilized by other fans of your channel.
Ik like this film also..not only Rolex...besides i enjoyed your film about the Seiko 5 and Bey ok you gave it the attention there watches also deserve..super the attention also for low end watches,!!,
Hi Austin, I wouldn't buy this watch as you are very clear that wasn't polished up to standard. Great watch, great video. This is a Seiko that would make me forget the Explorer 2
The watch looks just beautiful. Don’t compare it, just accept it for what it is. Buy it accordingly, or not! Simples! I do like the Grand Seiko watches though.
I agree with you Austin, I’d pass. I didn’t like the marks you pointed out in the second hand. It shouldn’t look like that unless it had water damage or was carelessly serviced.
1:04 Did that kid run out the store with a bag full of Horological gems?🤔 Mission accomplished indeed! That looks like a very safe train. Much more than the BART train.
I would pass because of the polishing job. A GS is supposedly all about the finish, which is exactly why I won't own one. I am just too hard on my watches...
I used to own this model, which beats the pants off a Rolex 16570 in terms of finishing. I had two knocks against it: 1) the lack of micro-adjustment at the clasp 2) the case is quite think and doesn't wear as nicely under a cuff as the 16570 (unfortunately these are common features with automatic GS). I liked it very much, but wouldn't buy this particular watch due to the overall poor condition and high price.
So much internal damage! I couldnt bare to look at that second hand everyday and can only imagine how bad the movement is. PASS from me. Great vid Austin
Average price - Discount no box/ papers. - Discount botched up factory Zaratsu polish. + Slight Increase for the fresh service. Personal daily use beater watch at the right price why not. No discount on the price, no thanks and go find a nicer one with full set. Tons of those around FS
Hi Austin, thanks for the great video. To answer the question you posed......."No" based on your analysis, I wouldn't purchase the GS. Cheers Noel. Instagram valjoux20 England

Nothing like a good ole watch hunt 👍
Many Grand Seiko crowns have a low sense of rigidity. How is the rigidity of the SBGM001 crown?
Hi Austin,
I wouldn't buy this watch as you are very clear that wasn't polished up to standard. Great watch, great video. This is a Seiko that would make me forget the Explorer 2
There is a pretty long scratch on the glass right in the middle towards 7 hour mark.
The watch looks just beautiful. Don’t compare it, just accept it for what it is. Buy it accordingly, or not!
Simples! I do like the Grand Seiko watches though.
that train ride was pretty cool at the end,
Thanks - glad you liked that! You're the only person to mention it so far.

Lol! SBGM001 for 500 USD! Anyone...anyone?
If I’m going Grand Seiko, I think it would have to be a spring drive, and probably the Snowflake ❄️
That seconds hand appears to be quite corroded in the closeups. Did it appear that way in person?
Oh ya!
I'm in the market for a spring drive but hard pass on that particular model
Interesting video. I agree with you Austin, I'd pass on this GS.
Take your time and find the right watch. Pass......
Pass on that without question and obtain a Rolex. That is my advice.
@@hwyterrorist Most of us don't buy a watch based on whether James Bond would wear it - I don't give a crap what a fictional spy would wear.
I'll stick with high quality Rolex watch. The other guys aren't worth it.

Hey Austin, how much sterling please ,love your channel, thanks.
Not sure what you're asking. Please clarify.
Great video and agreed. Pass
So much internal damage! I couldnt bare to look at that second hand everyday and can only imagine how bad the movement is. PASS from me. Great vid Austin
well we dont know about the state of the movement.. BUT you are right.. looking at the seconds hand alone i would NOT risk it..
Overpriced for a damaged piece without any extras. Not a Yen more than 200,000.
Harsh but reasonable.

How is your Japanese?
I'd say a little above conversational.
I would never buy a polished Grand Seiko. Thats defeating 80% of the purpouse to buy one in the first place.
You can have a SBGM227 for around 380000 brand new at Bic Camera in Shinjuku. I don't see the point buying this badly overpolished one for 334000.
I’d pass on it. Nice though.
I would never buy that watch way too expensive. Maybe if it was new
looks like it was polished at the local mechanics, I'd pass on this particular watch
Still better in that condition than any other boring rolex.
Here comes the hate...😂😂😂
🐕
The fact you said its pricey with no papers indicates your thinking its overpriced to me
Well, I've seen past listings of better examples that sold for less.
Hi Austin, thanks for the great video. To answer the question you posed......."No" based on your analysis, I wouldn't purchase the GS. Cheers Noel. Instagram valjoux20 England
I think a tool watch like this should not be that shiny
watch itself and quality of polishing not up to par. will pass.
Bezel surface is so bumby, and low quality.
Very noticeably corroded seconds hand.
