@@bostonfleener6692 I dont know, I'm from UK, I think its Weavs dry sence of humour and the straight face while being sarcastic is very English comedy style.
Pigments 3 was my go-to synth for pads before. Then I watched a 2 hour long tutorial on it and started actually building stuff in it. Then 4 came out and I find myself using it even more now. Somehow, it also led me down the road of launching Massive X in the dark theme mode, which I like a lot better. Blinded by the light, I guess? Also, I noticed that Pigments 4 is a lot easier on my CPU than before.
Yeah pigments 3 was quite the piggy plugin. You can tell they did quite a bit of optimization, that said tho, I have a feeling they've got more room to improve there as well. All complaints aside, it is a fantastic swiss army knife synth. It can do it all and do it well.
@@rohanreji6972 Not sure links will work here, as some channels turn them off... but I will link below this and see if it does. If it doesn't it was on Bound 2 Divide's YT channel about 9 months ago 2 hours 54 min and he covers every single part of Pigments.
@@dirg3music Any plugin has room to improve in the cpu usage area. Running VST3 is always a better bet, over VST2 though. I can run a whole heck of a lot of instances of Pigments with multiple OSC and voices and I still find the room. I can't do that with even Vital.
Steinberg HALion 6 also has a sample engine, analog oscillators, wavetable, and granular synthesis (and some kind of virtual organ as well) and tons of built in FX.
I recently upgraded to the V Collection 9 and I hope to someday to get Pigments. I am in no rush though as I have quite a few synths to work with already. I am really into Phase Plant right now.
Same. I don't buy much commercial software, but Arturia V collection and it's offshoots are amazing. I'm primarily Linux based, but I use a win/Ableton rig for live work alongside some hardware. Pigments and Collection 9 are both on my wishlist. Edit oh not same. I mean I bought V suite full version (upgrade). I wanted to grab Collection 9 on sale, but I picked up a Korg Karma and a few other bits and pieces for $200 the week before the sale started, so my "Arturia" savings went into more bloody hardware haha.
I was hoping you shown that theres no way to PAN each individual Oscillator Engine.. A basic soft synth control that Pigments doesnt have for some reason
For the detail oriented, CPU efficiency, option paralysis junkies; Melda Sound Factory (MSF). ❤Love Pigments as well, but the CPU thingie... Nope. So I rarely fire it up. But better ease of use and stuff for sure. For raw top sound quality and endless explorations though, it's MSF any day of the week. Did I mention detail orientation helps? 😎
About 2 years ago I rented Pigments 3 on Splice and forgot about it because I never used it. Once I realized it I was 50 bucks short of owning it lol. I still canceled though. 2 weeks ago I decided to give it a try again and paid the $50. To my surprise Pigments 4 was a free upgrade so I was pleasantly surprised.
Sounds cool. I checked out one of the last pigments and thought it interesting, but was too busy with analog synths at the time to care. Now I'm onto hardware workstations and VAs. But I might step away from the gear for this one...maybe.
Wanthony Bantano, you want CV patching on software synths like a big modular rack synth? You should check out VCV Rack, it's free and has like a trillion things to play with and hook together. Might make a fun video.
msoundfctory is a beast of a synth, it has every feature known to man, this comes at the cost of a steep learning curve though, which is party why I don't use it much, but it is insanely powerful. edit: what I mean by "every feature" is like every type of synthesis and sampling that I know of, it has almost every effect you can think of, and you can have I believe like 64 oscillators either way check it out, crazy shit. I got pigments crossgrade discount on auturia for 60 British pounds and I love it, I also shaved my hair just to be like massive hater, the influence is MASSIVE
Been using Pigments and there are a couple of things to think about. First, it is better than V3.5 for CPU consumption but it is still pretty heavy if you use the harmonic engine. The other thing is it would be nice if you could route the engines to separate filters rather than sharing a single filter bank architecture for all engines. One synth you didn't mention which surprised me was Avenger. That is awesome. Falcon is powerful but the UI is really difficult to get used to.
“there’s a lack of 808s” GOOD. we as a community need to band together to stop relying on 808s. synth basses and proper subs all 2023. lets be more creative this year, folks
Ima be real, falcon is literally one of the best synths ever made. The presets are actually useable and the expansions are insane. Also, you can make literally any sound with 90 effects, granular/modular synthesis, and custom macros an infinite amount of times on one patch. If you’re willing to put in the time, falcon is the only synth you’ll ever need. Only issue is complicated gui & beefy cpu, but those are more skill issues than anything wrong with the plugin. Underrated af, falcon is the guy Sandbox’s girl told him not to worry about.
Nice review. Would love you to review Unison from plugin guru. It's interesting in that it's a synth that lets you combine other soft synths you might have to create interesting sound combinations. Where's the guy with all the hair gone?
You mean Unify. That plugin is fantastic. I have been using it for a while with Pigments. Skippy hasn't upgraded the Unified library for V4 yet but I am sure he will. I put together all sorts of synth and effect combos with it.
A purchase of their Essentials keyboard for a couple hundred, comes with Analogue lab and Pigments can be had for about $70.00. Super value! Oh crap, I've become an ad.😜🎶🎹🎵 Play On!
Omnisphere is a great synth but a bit more expensive than Pigments . I own both and i must say the user interface on Pigments is a lot more intuitive and great if you are new to synths.
I have both. If I had to choose just one I would choose Omnisphere but it is really expensive. I have had it for 11 years now and it is updated with great features and never any upgrade charges once you buy it. The universe of patches provided is amazing. The library management in Omnisphere is second to none. It has a wider variety of sounds than Pigments and can do amazing things. Plus, you can stack patches up and play them in live mode with Orb control which doesn't exist in Pigments. Pigments has an awesome UI and is just great for sample stacking pads with crazy modulations. They both have outstanding effects sections but I would give the edge to Omnisphere right now. The supplied sample libraries with Omnisphere are incredible. These guys really know what they are doing which is no surprise given that Eric Persing is in charge.
