Mimi is a young adult trying to live as much of life as she can before she dies of a terminal illness. Don't reduce this wonderful character to Vanessa's two-dimensional interpretation.
I really love Aaron tveits interpretation of Roger although it was unlike a lot of other Rogers. I thought he made him much more two dimensional then many other Rogers that I've seen and I thought he made the character development more obvious and touching. also he has a gorgeous voice. many thumbs up for him
Am I the only one not bothered by Vanessa? I'll admit she was a little off in the beginning. But it was her first time performing in a live musical give her a break. She did get better though. Remember Mimi isn't a rugged woman with an addiction, she's a 19 year old girl who's sweet and caring and doesn't realize how bad her addiction is. And I think it's good Vanessa tried so hard to be sexy because that's how a 19 year old girl acts. Don't forgot Mimi's job as a stripper/go go dancer is to be overly sexy.
I'm 19 and I act nothing like that, just saying. (I mean, I'm gonna be 20 next month, but still, as of right now I'm still 19.) Also, no, it's pretty obvious Mimi knows how bad her addiction is. But, I digress, Vanessa is NOT that great as Mimi, in my opinion.
I hate how everyone dislikes Vanessa in Rent. I think she did a great job as Mimi...maybe she's not perfect but I really enjoyed her performance personally :)

She tends to get off tempo, and the fact that she sounds like she gets annoyed with him, it goes against the fact that she blew out her candle just to get back in.
I won't add anything about VANESSA anymore. I think enough has been said about her. I just want to say that AARON is really cute and really a great singer-actor. :D
This was better than the opening night performance, but holy timing. Pick a tempo and stick with it, preferably the original tempo. And Vanessa remembered to grab her stash this time, even if it was the least stealthy awkward grab instead of a smooth dance move. Thanks for all the videos! Would love to see One Song Glory, if it wouldn't be too much trouble to request that as the next song.
But you could be just going by the movie. I feel like anyone who plays the character should interpret the script however they feel is right. I like Aaron's portrayal.
I think he switched it so that when he said "I figured..." he meant that he figured she wanted sex rather than a light, and that's what made him pissed. At least that's the way I read it.

I also do not think that Aaron Tveit does not suit Roger. He has an AMAZING voice, there's no denying that. But his voice is just too theatrical for Roger. Roger's voice is supposed to be raw and rocker-like.

i actually prefer gabriella's performance. the way she sings "we could light the candle" sounds so catchy. but we all know that a remake can never be a good as the previous one; it's a rule of nature.

Sure she was trying hard you can tell, but in the end she was miscast. Not her fault, but doesn't make her any less awkward to watch.
I'm not a hater but I don't know, I just feel like there's no sharpness, no exciteness, no flow. Unlike other productions I've seen. Rent: Live on Broadway was one of them. This scene, especially, they're flirting in the first place. Where's the spark in lighting that candle?

I am conflicted because I want to like this video for Aaron but then there is Vanessa..... In my opinion she acts a little too white washed for this role and her vice is just not very strong
Hudgens is just awful. Everything she says and does seems insincere. I know Mimi's supposed to be lying and flirting in this song, but it feels more like she's just breaking character instead.
