Ye. Regrettably we kinda got to chalk that up to all of us. Journalism in general (but moreso in 'lowkey' branches like entertainment) has declined sharply because people more and more moved away from written medium to online medium with zero regard for quality or cost. Only "who has the newest info first" and clickbait. Paper news is obviously slow and antiquated, but the big advantage of only having a daily / monthly print is that anything you write about is inherently under a more generous timescope. You can take your time to play and evaluate a game, because you won't have to start writing the article till next week anyways. But nowadays whoever puts out the review article first, gets more clicks = more money. So obviously it's economically incentivized to just blurt out whatever, as long as you're the first to do it. Even better if it's incendiary, outrageous and 'exclusive' so that other sites will cite and link back to you as a source. That gets Google REALLY rolling. If people never fell for sensationalism and impatience to begin with, this shovelware journalism would have never taken off to begin with. And would also be unsustainable and die off quickly. But here we are, and it takes controversies and culture wars to slowly kill off specific outlets one by one. Meaning there's still enough people giving them the clicks, and thus the practice propagates. Mind you, it still takes a spineless journalist to adopt a quantity-over-quality approach, but the people accepting and (indirectly) paying for that are actively damaging the livelyhood of journalist who stick to quality. Which is why they've become a near-extinct species.

Seems like some sort of Kafka trap. “I was right! …Okay, there were some errors, but not only was I right, the negative reaction to my article further proves I was right!”
@@mukuroikusaba7998 It's worse. She said "Ok, so all I wrote were lies... but the fact that I wrote lies and that I'm admitting I wrote lies is not the problem, the problem is that my lies received backlash, and may I remind you that I am a woman, so criticizing women is sexist and toxic, and because I - a woman - was criticized by Black Wukong's fan base means Black Wukons's fan base is sexist and toxic, thus it is the fault of Black Wukong's developers and they should really say something about this. Really. Please. Pretty please?"
"The developer's sexism"
bruh i'm going to buy a game, not invite the developer to live with me. even if it was true, my business with him is just the game.
but the 'game journalist' admitted that she never played the game so how could she 'just' report about the qualities of said game and thus help you make an informed decision regarding purchasing the game? Furthermore throwing baseless insults and accusations about the developers around gets more clicks while taking fewer effort so why expect anything else from her?
Boy, if she's mad about that, she's going to *hate* this new industry called "Hollywood".
@@TomParis51 that's the point. the moment they start bringing things that doesn't concern about the game quality, its already a huge red flag. game journalists already have little to no credit, they got not even basic gaming skills, they never bring any useful information.
and now knowing that this is also part of DEI strategy to get money from game devs, i will definitely not listen.
There was no "toxicity" until she wrote that nonsense.
I hate activists who pretend to be a game journo well back to play Dome keeper.
That's just most game "journos" now
@@Weaver_Games true sadly i used to look up to game news and such before it was corrupted and now its at this state.
hmm, that small indie game?
@@Archmage90 its kinda fun early stages but kinda addicting.
"Please don't abandon me and dont let me lose my reputation, im so sorry"
The only thing that's hard to believe in your paraphrasing is the word 'sorry'.
I don't sense an ounce of "sorry" in her comment
I love your editor so much.😂
Literally she was telling us:
The game she has never played is sexist
The place she has never been to and has no idea about is not only sexist, but also toxic
2:13 AHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH... we feel your pain editor!
I’m dead.💀
😩😩😩
2:13 Most painful HAAAAAAAAAH in history.
Transferring that “getting licked” phrase literally is like putting out accusations of people trying to threat you when they tell you to break a leg
i have zero clue about chinese but how dumb do you need to be that a game dev just randomnly posts about getting his stick licked while the other pragraphs have no connection to that line at all.
That a light bulb didn't go on and maybe that was a wrong translation or a slang that doesn't work in english, is actually worrying.
I mean wtf, how is she (and others who didn't say something to her) even alive?
It's like:
"I kill two birds with one stone, I'm very efficient."
"OmG aNimAL ABusE!1!!1!!!"
"Wait what?"
@@MHWGamer Chinese internet slang, this expression may be a bit rude but he doesn't mean it in a bad way.
It's like ‘cow's vagina’ in Chinese(牛逼), which means to praise someone for being awesome.
@@MHWGamer Of course, these internet terms do not apply to formal occasions.
I wouldn't be too hard on him for his rude use of words, given that he was a very small and not very ‘public figure’ at the time.
@@minog1401 It's like saying someone is "the shit" in English. You're awesome, you're the man if you're the shit.
You don’t hate journalists enough.
You think you do but you don’t
Gamergate 1 and 2 weren’t harsh enough to them.
HOW MANY TIMES DO WE HAVE TO TEACH YOU THIS LESSON, OLD MAN?!
it's quite funny how in france it's exactly the same with video game journalists refusing to play it, and influencers/youtubers refusing to play it and asking for a boycott.
besides it was the same with Stellar Blade and Howard Legacy
some people just hate it when other people are having fun
At this point, anyone who unironicaly uses the word "sexism" should be completely ignored.
You're right. It's a sad reality we live in where people water down the concept of opression to the point where actual oppression can't even be taken seriously.
People like this woman don't feel shame. They Greninja think they're fighting the good fight. It's honestly so depressing
they never admit they are wrong
It is almost 10 years to the day of gamergate..Journos are still playing the same book!
Woke Kong'ed
Buck BROKEN
Funny how she doesn't even have the common decency to admit that she was wrong and proceeded to completely threw whatever little dignity she has into the trash
She picked "Reporter at IGN" as her forum tag... voluntarily. 🤦🏻♂️
Yeah, I'm sure the article had nothing to do with Wukong devs REFUSING TO PAY BLACKMAIL to Sweet Baby inc not even two weeks before it came up
And still the "journalists" meltdown about the game being successful still has nothing to do with that
She never said this BTW.
"I really encourage people to read my hit piece where I lied about a small company"
Why does a studio from another country nonetheless has to respond to "allegations" by some random "journalist"
Because if they didn't, this will make them look weak and easily bullied. Well, they made a chad response enough for them to not allocate any energy anymore. Well, untill the other side make another controversial issue again.
@@linming5610 honestly its more of a Chad move if they just don't respond in my opinion. Who cares about the drama when your game is an absolute hit
Love how that dude's yell to get out of his house slowly transformed from insistant to insane
My mum would give me a stickers as a kid when I would do something good, so I guess I can add that I’m also a multi award winner.
Since you seem to have all of the proper certificates listed, would you like to work as DEI Consultant or Game Journalist?
1:58 true, it is great.
@1:36 Everyone reading this, that used google translate more than once in their lifetime would instantly know that it was shitty translation. In what world would anyone wrote something in this format. I'm not native speaker but this looks like something you can hear from 12YO CS or CoD russian player.
retire the phrase "toxic community"
well... League still exists so...
Redirect it to "game journalists".
Thats basically Resetera
@@JayceCH.I hadn't heard of resetera till now and holy shit that place is awful
As soon as you claim anything/anyone is "toxic" (excluding sludge that makes turtles ninjas and stuff of course), I immediately doubt the legitimacy of everything else you've said, and will say. If they're really that bad, instead of using a buzzword, describe what they did and let me come to that conclusion because it's true.
She literally says "I don't know" if the studio has culture or racism problems... Then calls them Nazis right in the title. 🤯
There's another funny thing, there's some reviews said the game's early equipment become useless in the later stages, then some come to realization that, they never found the way to upgrade their stuffs since they never went the side way. Those who reviewed the game never and ever get any side quest done, that's why they find themselves struggled so much with the game.
They never played the games to review them sweet baby inc is about taking money from companies for reviews.
Fuck yes, let the gamers win.
Let the gaming "journalists" stay mad about it.
I've unsubbed and completely stopped following IGN. They're absolutely insane over there.
As an indie dev, it makes me happy to see that there are still people who want REAL Games with real mechanics, instead of accepting AAA companies force-feeding us a bunch of focus tested trash
I mean the game is AAA but yeah.
You would have a harder time convincing me that 1:27 was really what he said and not a funny mistranslation.
I think at this point they are just doing this to get clout I don’t think they actually care about the game at all
Or people
When I hear someone say the word "toxic" i unfriend them.....
to their faces.
Not the animal crossing PFP 😭😭😭
