  • The Antonov An-225 Mriya (meaning dream or inspiration) NATO codenamed Cossack, the largest aircraft in the world, takes off from Shannon Airport via runway 24 at 22.00 after a brief rest stop the day before.
A substantial crowd turned up to see the giant of the skies off.
EDIT: I'm aware the camera work is not great. I was standing on a rickety fence in wind. I don't need it pointed out repeadetly in the comments

Oleg Antonov was a Russian aeronautical engineer as were Tupulev and Ilyushin and Mikoyan and Gurevich. In the CCCP era all these airplanes were actually built in Russia. Later, a lot of manufacturing was spread out to Ukraine to alleviate congestion in Moscow. With the downfall of CCCP, most Ukrainians, which are probably some of the most nationalistic people on earth claim this airplane as their " creation ", which is nothing further from the truth. This is like saying the Volkswagen " Beetle " which was totally developed in Germany is Mexican, because it was lately built there! Apple I phones are built in China, let's all scream Glory to China? This is not Ukrainian. Its Russian/USSR plane. I never heard of flying Ukrainians and their world "advanced" aviation :-)

instabuilder The plane was build by a factory in today's Ukraine and designed Soviet engineers, who were Ukrainian. Only because you never heard about something does not mean it is not there. Besides, who was talking about "advanced " aviation? You are the only one who mentioned it.

lanciadr You made my day, I'm laughing....
Antonov engineers and designers were mostly Russians. However I agree, it was built with Russian supervision in Ukraine. Ukraine was always the lend of cheaper and less skilled labor, for example like China nowadays. Last name Antonov is not Ukrainian either. Ukrainians cannot design or build anything except "Salo" and Chernobyl disaster.
If I'm wrong, tell me at least 1 notable name in any type of engineering field who was Ukrainian in 20th century. For each and every name you come up I will give you 10 names of Russians/Jews/ Armenians

Wow. You think pretty high about Russians. Do you know the reason why Ukraine inherited so much good industry and large amount of military hardware design bureaus? i will tell you why. Its because we don't drown ourselves with vodka all the time and can make actually build things that work unlike you with your crooked hands. And all those "Russians" that worked in Ukraine were actually all Jewish and not "Russian". And also, the reason why Chernobyl happened is because of experiments order from Moscow and so the fault lies on you bastards.

lanciadr Hi from America; we don't need new friends like you Ukrainians.
I think about Russians as of any other normal nation., unlike you Polish's slaves or German Nazis bustards. Where is your industry, you brainwashed idiot? What kind of industry your talking about? Paroshenko(Roshen) is your junk industry. Shit candy factory, that they give out for free in NYC's supermarkets, cause nobody buy them here
