    As much as I love the Highlander franchise, it's always bugged me that nobody seemed to care about continuity. Each film is just a standalone adventure that happens to feature an immortal guy named MacLeod and the overall lore but they do not fit together otherwise. This entry is a direct sequel to the TV series which again has its own distinct timeline from any of the movies prior to this one

    • @JLvatron
      @JLvatron 2 дня назад +1

      The 1st 3 movies are actually in continuity, with a bit of leeway. The trick is to identify the movies scenes are NOT shown in chronology; the real order is blended in all movies.
      Here it is:
      -H2 The highlanders rebel on their planet Zeist and are punished and sent to be reborn in Earth's past.
      -H1 They are reborn without memory, and strive towards the Gathering (on Earth). Connor defeats the Kurgan, ...but is NOT yet the last Highlander!
      -H3 The Sorcerer emerges, Connor kills him and is finally the last Highlander ...on Earth.
      -H1 Connor finally wins the (Earth) game and gets 4 rewards: (1 & 2 from H1)
      1-He becomes mortal. 2- he gets "illumination" and understands human kind's needs.
      (3 & 4 from H2) 3-He gets his memories back from planet Zeist.
      4- He gets the choice to return to Zeist or live out his mortal life on Earth. He chooses Earth.
      -H2 decades later, Connor is an old man. General Katana gets impatient and sends 2 Zeist Highlander fools to Earth to kill Connor. Connor beheads 1 of them, and the Quickening re-immortals him.
      Katana comes and Connor kills him too.
      It is not revealed if Connor's re-becoming the last Highlander turns him mortal again or not. This ends the original continuity of movies 1,2,3.
      What about Connor's son in H3? This and other details are part of the Leeway required, but the main immortal story kinda fits together, with the them "There shall be only 1!"
      The Series was its own parallel universe, as it was about "There shall be only, ...Groups."
      H4 film combines the series and films, but is set in the series universe.

    What has always gotten me-when Connor says “One of us has to die now”. The resignation in his voice, the finality- Connor was ready to go. Weary in body and soul. Everyone he had loved save Duncan gone to either mortal death or immortal vengeance. He had lived and loved and lost, many times over. At the end, he wanted to stop Kell, give Duncan the chance to do it, and peace at last. At a point in everyone’s life, I think everyone thinks they’ve seen it all, that they’re just tired and worn out. And they think about an end to it all. Connor went out a hero and a true Highlander. His clan and Ramirez would have been proud

Now with me being 50 having lost many friends and fur babies as i only had one child he is grown and hasnt given me any grandchildren yet i know what she felt now. I'd say go and find the first movie and start from the beginning to get the whole story because just watching the t.v series doesn't tell the whole story

  • @1dcondave
    @1dcondave Год назад +17

    I saw this movie in the theater, and I hated it. There never should have been a Highlander sequel in the first place; and every sequel undid the original story, and made Connor's quest for the Prize and victory over the Kurgan a tragic joke. That's not to say that I disliked Duncan or the TV show, which were good, but my sentiment still stands. By the time they film Endgame, Lambert is visibly older and slower, and didn't fit the role so well anymore (not to mention the awful haircut). But the deconstruction of Connor in this film is like unto the treatment of Luke Skywalker in The Last Jedi. It was like watching a friend die of cancer, and feeling that awful sense of relief that the suffering is finally over. He deserved better.
    And the reasoning for it in the story made NO sense! So, forgettable Bad Guy has X amount of kills, and Duncan and Connor each had around half that number. By the movie's logic, Duncan taking Connor's Quickening now gives him more kills than the Bad Guy, even he only added ONE kill to his tally. BUT, if it's the quality of kills that matter, then bringing up the number was pointless. After all, if Bad Guy spent the last three centuries un-aliving all his low-ranking henchmen, along with every Ritchie Ryan he came across, noobs with no accumulated power, experience, or skill, then his total accumulated power should not be that great. When Fitzcairn was abducted by the evil Watchers who were going to take his head, his worry was that his Quickening would be wasted- all his power and experience gone, just POOF. That means that his power upon release should be much greater than someone like Ritchie. Meanwhile, the Clan MacLeod has been taking on every high-ranking evil Immortal they've come across for centuries, so much so that Connor has a case of "Dark Quickening" at one point. BUt no, the story treats it like a 2nd grade math problem, and they stuck with it, and it was stupid and pointless.
    But I guess it was still better than :The Source...

    What I find interesting about tales of immortality is when you contrast Connors end here with our desperate need to survive, to live, and for many of us our absolute dread of dying. And yet here we have a soul that's been put through the wringer for hundreds of years. He's lost so much that to him, death is a blessing. It's such an eye opener in terms of the contrast to the way the everyman thinks and in a way, the concept is almost alien to us. One has to do a lot of soul searching and growth in order to reach this kind of acceptance and to be able to set the terror of death aside and accept it with open arms.

      As far as fighting, European style has the wider and safer moves as the blades were heavier and utilise more of a chopping action with the straight blade, katanas were a curved cutting weapon and a lighter blade and utilised quicker more precise movements, especially against unarmoured opponents. So more flowing, circular movements to allow the single edge to cut, you're right, it looks better cinematically. This movie presumes that the original Highlander never happened. In that regard, while Duncan has less kills than Conner, Duncan has bigger kills. He's taken one of the Horsemen (Methos got the other two, stealing the quickening of Kronos), many immortals significantly older and far more active than Conner was over the centuries (tv series had him knocking down Immortal serial killers every week), and because of the concept that the original movie obviously isn't part of the history of this film there was no Kergan for Conner either. At the end of the day Conner is really a middle of the road Immortal of approximately 800 years or so. His quickening would be on par with or slightly bigger than what we could expect of Amanda or any of the other Immortals who largely minded their own business over the centuries compared to the ones that hunted those or the ones like Duncan who had a nasty habit of taking the heads of those same hunting Immortals. Duncan is really, really powered up for an Immortal of his age.

      DM did pull off many upsets where he was clearly the underdog against much older and more powerful immortals. It does make sense he would be unaware of Kell was breaking so many rules for so long, but that so many immortals fell to him without even a less-active, "good" immortal aware of a single immortal claiming nearly 700, was tough to get around. It's much more difficult to believe the evil immortals ally themselves to stop a growing threat and seize a nice power boost for themselves.

    hi.. only saw highlander 1 before the t.v series..Adrian Paul (duncan macleod)on the t.v. series was so fun + also emotionally satisfying to watch for a few reasons :) now i'm watching them all - even the bad movies are good if you ask me! There aren't as many original movies/stories nowadays it seems, or, I can't find as many? I have been enjoying them all. I really want to visit Scotland..

      It's been awhile since I watched the series but if I remember right they had an adversarial Immortal named Krell, or something like that.
      Connor felt he was too powerful for Duncan so he "teamed up" with Duncan the best way he knew how...
      By uniting his powers with Duncan. The Highlander way and this allowed Duncan to defeat Krell.

      Guys guys you didn't watch the series and original movie obviously.
      This is not the same character. Connor McLeod is good guy he was happy with his wife and later with Brenda and is the last immortal. And the most powerful immortal too. In the series he is the same. Friend of Duncan. Good guy he smiles there's no Kell all of his loved people are alive. Here is different character:
      I could say evil, he can't fight everyone beats him. And they say that in 1990 he left the game his daughter was killed. But in the series he meet with Duncan 1992 and nobody is killed he is in the game. Duncan never was married too. I ll say same actors same names but different characters.
