This film is so unfairly slept on. Who would have thought a full blown action horror from Arnold would get probably his greatest performance at the time. He really gives it his all in this film. Gabriel Byrne is the most chilling version of Satan I have ever watched in live action, and he does it just being a vessel for him. The haunting theme that plays every time Satan enters a room is just chef's kiss perfection and gives such a sense of dread and menace.
When satan kills that dude with the cross who tried to murder the girl, noticed he only knocks out the good father guy who was trying to save her? Almost like he wasn’t allowed to kill a true believer! 🤔
He came back and looked at him, but we never saw what happened. I think he killed them all...solely focusing on this scene alone. We can hear sounds from inside the church as he and the girl are running out into the rain.
I’ve watched this at least 100 times growing up, being born in 87 😂. Loved this movie! Microwave some burritos, spread some sour cream and hot salsa on em and turn this bad boy on!!!
As a '90s kid I remember this scene scaring the heck out of me because Arnold was invincible to me obviously as the Terminator and such so to see him get beat down like that was such a shock to me because I was like nobody can beat him up. What's going on here? My 7-year-old brain could not process that at the time. Now I grew up to realize what the movie was. And boy is it. Not the best but it definitely did. Its job scaring me back then just because I couldn't comprehend Arnold losing like that
I agree but in my mind he went down like a straight G, took how many with him? And he was smack talking Satan all the way to the end, man had true grit.

@ sure, keep telling yourself that. When you die and enter heaven, you still can’t bear witness to the end of days, because you’re no longer on Earth. It doesn’t matter if he was Satan, Jesus, or Bob who lives down the road, if you’re dead, you aren’t witnessing anything. Plus he said, “…with your last breath…”, now, I’m no doctor or surgeon, but I’m pretty sure he breathed his last breath when he was killed. It was dark and creepy, but hardly the end of days. It was just getting started, and was nowhere near the end of days.
No. This isn't supernatural where every angel has the power to resurrect the dead. Satan has no power of life, he only had at one point the power of death. God alone is the only one that can bring back the dead to life.
Satan can resurrect people from hell that it's his dimention, but not from heaven where is Gods and Angel's dimention and Christine was Christian which she would had go to heaven if she had died.
This version of Agnus Dei scared the crap out of me when I watched the movie. There was this creeping just-around-the-corner horror feel to it that frightened me even more than Gabriel Byrne.
@RegulaRegz732 i worded that poorly and un finished. i meant finding movies i never heard of from actors i grew up watching. i just turned 32 last month
@rcnelson I think the message of the film is that you should not try to use the devil's methods against him, because he will always win. Just as the good priest says in this clip: "you cannot fight evil by doing evil." Our response to lies should be the truth; our response to hatred should be love. This is a good message. God bless +++
I love this movie, been watching it since it came out and when everybody was a little nervous about Y2K. This and Entrapment were the Y2K movies that stick with me. I have no idea how this did so badly. It was a great concept and the execution was pretty solid for the time. Underrated as fuck, IMO.
No there’s 1 more. Sabotage was brilliant. Obviously he wasnt able to fight how he used to but the action & supporting cast made it a great way to go out.
Evil is natural cosmic necessity. It’s the other half of the polarity that enables this reality to exist in the first place. No evil, no physical reality.
This is one cool guilty pleasure of an Arnold film. Yeah, maybe the editing isn't that great but it is a cool popcorn flick. And it's acually interesting to see that Gabriel Byrne played Satan and a priest the same year in the film Stigmata. Good and Evil in one package from 1999.
It doesn't matter if "heaven papi" or "ground troll" both factions are not Terran and abominations of the warp. So better start asking yourself, what would Titus do. FOR HOLY TERRA!
1:32 - Of all the sects of Christianity, the Catholics are the most vocal about an act being good or bad because of the actor’s goal. Doing something minor, but filled with praise for the Lord, is good. Doing something extremely beneficial, but for reasons other than praising the Creator, that’s not a good deed.
I like this movie. However, if it were made today, its content might be drastically different. It could have turned into a harsher narrative, like The Walking Dead or 24. The story might have revolved around the idea that “killing Christine would save the world, making her a necessary sacrifice.” The Christian extremists hunting her could have been portrayed as a self-sacrificing group willing to do the dirty work for the greater good. Jericho might have tortured and executed Satan’s followers one by one in his quest to defeat the Devil, culminating in Christine willingly asking Jericho to kill her in the final scene to avert the apocalypse. One reason I like this movie is that it was made in 1999, before 9/11 and the Iraq War. At that time, action movies hadn’t yet started to justify killing civilians or torturing enemies as “necessary evils” or depict torturers as enduring their moral struggle for the sake of saving the masses. End of Days may be a flawed movie, and it has its fair share of issues-like Schwarzenegger reportedly farting in front of a female co-star-but the story itself still carried a certain moral conscience. That’s something modern action films often lack. ……And with Schwarzenegger killing people on a scale comparable to Commando, along with the abundance of sex and violence, this movie never fails to excite me every time I watch it.

This was the last Arnold movie I watched, both in theaters and TV. You know an actor has lost his luster when he no longer chooses his roles, but do them just for the money. This movie was that for Arnold Schwarzenegger. The plot for this movie is riddled with one plot hole after another. It’s predictable with one cliche after another. In fact, the makers of this movie knew this because it even makes fun of itself a few times. For Stallone, it was the movie Stop or My Mama Will Shoot. As said, they did them just for the money because quality scripts are no longer shown to them.
He did a great lucifer to Arnie's hero. Really great movie I can't watch ever again. I don't like looking at the devil, even in a fictional setting. His way should be feared. Arnold getting his ass beat... If they remade this movie with the Rock, they will not have this scene at all.
If they remade this movie Dwayne better not be in it.
If they remade it with the Rock it would be a goofy/action comedy. It would suck.
