Super cute! You might consider smearing some rug glue or just a thick fabric glue on the back so if it gets snagged by a mug at all theres no risk of it falling out
@@AdventuRyn_I still don’t understand where the above commenter is suggesting to add the fabric glue. They said “on the back” - like, on the felt at the bottom? Wouldn’t that make the felt backing very rigid and coarse and at risk of scratching tables…?
@drawingdingus6863 Exactly. Just like how ppl do on big homemade rugs. The back is coated in a layer of rug glue **before** the felt (or other backing, in a bigger rug) is added. It does seem to stiffen it, but doesn't seem to make outside hard/crunchy/potentially damaging to any surface.
@@Char10tti3Just remember the most important stitches. Fancy ones like popcorn stitched you can just search it up when you need to. That’s what I do at least. But what do I know?🤷♀️
Note: don't put ice drinks on these that collect condensation. I've ruined several cork and unfinished wood coasters this way as they get mouldy after 6-12 months. Unless you chuck these in the wash often, perhaps it won't happen with this. But I assume it would be like any cloth or towel that often gets wet, it gets musty after awhile. But would be great for hot mugs!
I do rug hooking more than punch needle and i always sew on my backing. Using glue works great, but not what i prefer. Look up whip stitch the edge of a rug and it adds a nice little border. 😊
ARE YOU KIDDING ME THIS IS THE CUTEST THING EVER 😻 I’ve seen the big rug tufting videos all over the internet and wanna try SOO bad but absolutely do not have the time or space for those contraptions needed for it! But THIS?! This I could actually do!!!! I’m obsessed and NEED to try this!😻
It always always ALWAYS pisses me off when someone's uses hot glue on projects that involves textile. Not only that reuins the fabric, but also doesn't last long, especially if it gets wet. I recommend e6000 glue. It works on any kinds of material, it's stronger than hot glue, waterproof, and it doesn't leave yellow or white stains on your project. If e6000 isn't available tho, you can also try e7000 and they're usually sold in textile shops
Yeah, as is it would be very hard to wash these without them falling apart. The number of times i have bought something on etsy to find it already had come apart in the shipping because it was hot glued together..
@@ultrakitten674 that's another reason as to why it pisses me off. If you're going to sell your hand made stuff, you gotta make sure the you used to the right materials and equipments for it
E6000 is absolute overkill!! You need a respirator to work with that stuff as it is harmful to breathe in the fumes! Just use craft glue. It's non toxic and also waterproof and will work with any textile, wood, paper...
The hot glue was making me LOSE MY MIND. "It's really helpful to have the right materials." YES, it is, which is why you want RUG GLUE. Or some kind of daggum fabric glue instead of LUMPY, IMPERMANENT HOT GLUE!!
Since hot glue would melt in the dryer have you tries fabric glue instead so that it can survive the wash? Or even something like the more gell like gorilla glue?
I have a question! I’m a dummy, so excuse my ignorance! Is the top side of the rug like… loose fibres? Which all kind of stick up, loose thread side up to the world? I always assumed so, but watching you poke that long string of yarn through, suddenly I’m second guessing and I can’t quite make out the detail on my screen. 😅 I should really just go watch more of your channel and find out how any of this works, but this is the first time this craft has popped up on my algorithm!
Wouldn't recommend that because of the hot glue, if u use smth like proper textile glue, which is machine safe, u can wash them. Or u just sew the back on by hand, with stitches only visible on the back, that's probably the best way.
I tried punch needling a few times and it was an absolute disaster. My thread immediately came right back up with the needle, unless I forced it as far down as the needle could go and then pulled it even further with my fingers. Every loop was a different (though equally wrong) length that hung like tentacles out of the fabric and 5 out of every 7 of them came right out. I cried every time I thought about art at all again for weeks after my last attempt…what do you do to prevent any of that? :/
Super cute! You might consider smearing some rug glue or just a thick fabric glue on the back so if it gets snagged by a mug at all theres no risk of it falling out
Not hating on your idea but I'm confused, what do you mean by snagged by the mug? I'm not sure how that would happen
@@lilithium3940I believe it's because sometimes mugs have chips, irregular glazing, or are otherwise a bit rough on the bottom

My mind exactly
Don't use hot glue it gets hard and lumpy and a hot mug can melt it. Use a fabric or craft glue. Even regular old Elmer's would be better.
I feel like you could use and iron and iron the back of the felt to re melt and smooth the glue
Right using actually rug glue would be so much better. Hot glue makes it barely hand washable.
Best would be to just do some stitches and sew it toghether.

I’m probably going to pick this hobby up once I’m past intermediate crocheting 🥲🥲
another intermediate crocheter who's thinking of punch needling!
Same!

Just try! You will get better every time. And most important: you'll have fun ☺️
I would have used a dark felt for the backing so stains dont show up as well as the white

OMG I've been wanting to do the actual rug making, but don't have the room for it. THIS is a game changer
the paper stars are so pretty!
I used the same technique to finish off the back of embroidered ornaments I made for Christmas last year! Highly recommend.
Mug rug is adorable
I couldn't use them as coasters. Too cute!
@@melissamarini1491 me either!!
So cute, I love the froggy mug rug. They would be cute as dollhouse rugs.
Wow, it’s so beautiful. Can you say, is it harder than knitting or no? And how long time does it take?
Oh girl, these are adorable!!❤
So cute. How do you wash him?
He's beautiful
I’m a therian and I do the flapping thing with the felt on my masks LOL 😅😂
Question: what’s the starter cost for this adorable craft?
Would also love to know!
Can you post a link to the kit or supplies you used?
Soooo cute!!!

Yes ! It's cute ! ❤❤❤
I might start this hobby:D
(I do a lot of different things like kandi and embroidery and sewing so I might also like this)
A coaster that actually absorbs!
And can't get washed very well
You can also use silicone finger tips to prevent burning. ❤
Hard to clean. And a hazard since cups will easily tip hover. Cute anyway.
Sooo cutez😍😍
I like needle punching I need to do it more and this looks like suuuch a cute idea

Oh, those are too cute!! Love it. I may consider this as a hobby!🎉🎉🎉
Im in love
Make a micro one using thread or small small yarn
Super cute! and when using hot glue I have a cup of water near me, so if I get glue on my fingers I can dunk them in to avoid burns!
I have a question: Will it work with hot beverage Won't the glue get melted and destroy rhe rug?
My coworker has a fried egg mug rug... Im jealous
you should make these into kits
Omg so cute 😭. I want to try it, but I have chronic pain in my hands
Maybe the work helps by motioning the fingers?
@ yeah maybe, I mostly want to make my cats a rug 😆
The frog…
ITS ME
All I can think of right now is having these but pokemon themed. It would be fantastic! Imagine a snorlax mug rug! 😍🥰

Me wanting to do that but with crochet
SO CUTE
Is punch needling durable enough to make clothing patches?
ok but how do you wash it?
Probably hand wash and hang to dry
But the other comments recommend rug glue or fabric glue.
You use hot glue not a fabric glue...so is it washable?
How would you keep these clean if used as a coaster, since they aren't wipe-able? Wouldn't they get damp, or stained?
What fabric are you using.
These are aDORable!😍
Omg I want that frog. How do I make him??
Ive been seeing this hobby more lately and im debating it. I want something to do to occupy my hands when im watching tv

Cuteeee
Can you use cork and make it a coaster?
It's okay, I don't know how I would clean it, if I spilled on it. So then they'd be display only & I don't do that in my house.
You could use thimbals to press th edges too probably
You might want to use a washable glue, maybe thread, and make it washable. This will mold over time.
Such a good tip ❤

Based on size this is a coaster
The niche for this song was my small town friends getting drunk in grade 11
We loved it so much for like 6 whole months
where do you find your patterns?
I would have used green felt, but he’s super cute. I want to do punch needles but also do not need another hobby.
I feel like using hot glue on something meant to hold a hot mug is maybe a bad idea
Ooo its so cute ❤❤
How do you wash these? If you actually use them, they will get dirty at some point
How difficult is it to make this frog? I have a friend who loves frogs and this sounds like a great gift to make for him.
How do I buy your punch needles
