Just got to say that I've found your channel so amazingly informative and helpful. You don't dumb things down (too much) and I actually feel like I'm learning not only about the products but about photography. Thanks!
Thank you SO much for this video! I'm looking to buy my first camera right now and deciding between these two, but I feel like every other video I've watched comparing the two on RUclips have all been trashing on the Mark 2 for being very little improvement. I mean, I get that, but that info is kinda only useful for people looking to upgrade from Mark 1 to 2. I just needed someone to let me know if getting the Mark 2 was worth it for ME, someone who doesn't have the Mark 1, and you showed me that! So again thank you! :)
Great perspective as always. Despite the weak specs on paper, I had to ask myself what I really needed coming from a 10 year old T3i (600D) - the answer was 1. Reliable continuous autofocus for video, 2. 1080p at 50/60fps, 3. touchscreen 4. compact size and 5. Value - The M50 did all of these while keeping the things I loved from T3i (flip out screen, ease of use, compatibility with my existing lenses and good out-of-box colour). Ended up getting the M50 and am happy.
I’ve been thinking about getting a new camera for Christmas. I literally binge watched every single photography channel on YT. I think this video might’ve been gamechanging Thanks a lot :)
*Wow!!! This is one of the very precise and appropriate reviews I've ever seen. Man, you've got me hooked to see this video till the end and earned a subscriber.* 👍🏽
So agree with you. I've had an M50 for some time and still love it. Bought the M50 Mark II because I knew it would be a solid camera AND I wanted the Clean HDMI out. It also has another bonus feature that few mention...audio monitoring is now available on the flip-out screen which is HUGE!
Wow, I bought a brand new M50 with kit lens in 2020 for 500€, and just won a bid for a new M50 Mark II with kit lens for 386€. Amazing deals for both of these cameras. I also recently bought an ATEM Mini Pro ISO, and plan to upgrade my recording studio to an audio/video studio, I plan on doing live streams, interviews, drum videos, and upgrading my RUclips channel. I´m a big fan of your videos, and have learned a lot from you.Thank you!!!
I bought the m50 the returned it as soon as I found out I couldn't do clean hdmi. I have the mkii now and it's amazing! It's what I use for RUclips now.
I got the MKII to stream on Twitch, it's been a DREAM!! In the market for a lens, so I can't wait to see your Viltrox review before I make the new lease purchase. I already got the canon EF adaptor, I'm just exploring all my options 😃
The newer viltrox speedbooster adapters dont have the same "defects" as the earlier models such as worse chromatic aberrations near the corners and edges. Mine doesn't have any (with a 24-105 f/4L) BUT it has a pink bias in the center that I notice when I put the camera into longer exposures like a second or more. I love how all my EF lenses basically one-up their aperture with the speedbooster. The 24-105 f/4L becomes 2.8 which is perfect for my needs.
Nothing hugely wrong with either camera. Great camera for the price point. When you need better futures, you can always upgrade then. Camera bodies don't really hold their value. As soon as the next generation products come out, previous generation's value takes a hit. That's just how it is... Really enjoy it. Use it. Capture memories. Or be productive. Really use it to make your money's worth! 4K and 6K an 8K are nice features and all... but is the price premium worth it to you? I think for most entry-level and average folks, the M50 or Mark II is plenty enough.
I did do comments on your similar video. Again, for all people watching and all new people who will watch this. Get Canon M50 Mk II, it's incredible and what it can give, it's cheap like a toy 🙂. Highly recommended 👍. This camera will cover most... if not all photographic needs. For me, results are always impressive.

Great video comparing the M50 and M50 Mark II. Initially it would be assumed a firmware update would solve the problem, but it looks like there are hardware structural changes as well. As an m50 as my second camera now, I recommend as a entry-level / mid-range camera.
Love your videos. Very informative. I just ordered the Sony zv1 for my scrub startup RUclips channel. But I went back and forth with this camera. They are the same price range.
I don't think this is easy to use. The main problem with this camera is the waiting time between 2 pictures. I would be faster with an analog camera. How much time I lost a shot because of this stupid unexistant buffer/slow as hell processor.
Your videos are arguably the best on RUclips for the type of reviews you do. I love your passion, your presentation style, and your authenticity, a great combination. I'd love to get your quick bottom line suggestion between the SL3 and the M50 Mk 2. I'm ONLY using the camera for video work (vlogs and training type videos) and I recently bought the SL3 and I'm happy with it (except for the 4K cropping). I don't yet have buyers remorse (I can still return the camera) but a part of me keeps saying I should go with the M50 II for some reason. Would just love to have your thoughts on whether I should stick with the SL3 or switch it out. I appreciate your insights, keep up the great work!

It’s the best camera for my budget. It fits the hand perfectly. Annnnnnd I don’t need a computer. I can pack and use this camera nearly anywhere and edit every with my phone. My only complaint is that it isn’t weather resistant which I desperately need in Hawai’i
Hi! Thanks to your videos I have bought this camera. I will pick it up tomorrow and i am so excited. Here in Perú, prices are higher than US (I think). I paid $950 for the camera, the 45mm kit lens, the adaptor and the extra 75-300mm kit lens. Tomorrow I will rewatch all your videos and start practicing. PS. Is my first camera, I'm just starting in this beautiful world.
Most enjoyable and informative video - thankyou. The Canon EOS M50 Mark II + EF-M 15-45 mm f/3.5-6.3 is - today - priced at £696.98 on Amazon UK. Cameras are expensive here. Used Canon MKIIs can be had for around £550.
I love the Canon M50. I wish canon would add weathersealing as this camera is terrible to use anywhere near water and I live in California where it rarely rains
I bought the Canon RP kit for $999 tax paid sale at Samy's -- comes with the 24-105mm kit lens. A full-frame, with a zoom lens is one super deal. I also got another 3% off for a next purchase, so I got the 50mm $198 for around $171. The M50, when it was on sale with two lenses, was also a decent deal. I see the Panasonic GX9 is $799 with a 12-60 lens, which is great considering it is MFT so lens range doubles -- if a person wanted to attach a single lens, most of the time. The in-body stabilization + lens stabilization is a good feature. I have now have Nikon, Olympus and Panasonic, and have decided my future emphasis is going towards full-frame compact camera gear, and the Canon brand. The M50 cameras are compact, good for travel and street shooting, but I prefer the MFT cameras or going with the larger Canon, which has great controls. Getting to love the Fv mode the most on the Canon RP. -Loren
Hello, I binged watched A LOT of your camera videos, and I love how they're so informative and easy to take in!! Your visuals are spectacular too! you're my favorite go-to RUclipsr now when it comes to cameras and other equipment :) I'm a freshman at college, and my course is film. I'm really into this camera, and I've watched all your other canon and sony camera videos. Still, I keep coming back to this one. I want to know if you recommend this camera to a film student. My knowledge of camera settings is very basic; that's why I want to get a Canon because I've heard their user settings are very easy to understand. I'm not worried about 4k because even my professor told me that we won't be shooting 4k much (due to the circumstances now, I barely get to film at all). Hope to hear from you!
Thank you for being part of the channel. This is a good camera to learn on, as long as you don't need to film in LOG for school (if you do, they may provide you with test cameras/footage). I think it's a great camera to learn on.
I was wary if I should watch this video since I got the Canon M50 first version. Pre-pandemic I didn't really mind the non-clean HDMI out but when this pandemic happened and I wanted to stream with my Canon this made me wish that I should've gotten the MKII. The Canon M50 is still a great camera tho im looking forward to your video on the Viltrox lenses! And if its possible try to compare lense quality output with the Sigma lenses and the Viltrox! Great video!
The price difference is much higher here in Sweden. The EOS M50 + 15-45mm costs SEK 4990 ($587) new and the EOS M50 Mark II + 15-45 costs SEK 7700 ($904). Most stores have been trying to sell their last copies of the original for a while now.
hey hey, I live in The Netherlands and the question I keep asking myself is why is everything so hella expensive here. $599 (wich is €496,-) for the body of the mark II is an absolute steal, and why is that? Here in The Netherlands the body of the mark II sells for €619,- wich is equal to $747,-. Man you Americans always make me jelly when it comes to tech products. At least youre video's are great and very honest, and I like that so keep doing the good work :)
What's up Sagi. Super informative comparison video. The M50 is our favourite camera and the new features of the mk2 improve on the original immensely. Take care, stay safe and healthy, both of you. Ray and Sue.
I own the M50. I agree, is the best for the price, and for most new RUclipsrs like me, is more than enough. Nevertheless, I don't feel like Canon has a clear path about the M line. I think about investing in the future and that is about glass, camera bodies come and go but lenses will stay with us a long time. I do prefer investing in sony lenses and sony (photo) cameras seem to be more video-oriented and the future appears to be more clear. Sony a6400, even being older than M50 mkII is way better in my opinion.
Thanks for the video. Can I livestream via rtmp with this camera using Castr or Restream? If so, can i do this with the wifi on the camera or will I need to plug in the USB? Using a Macbook Pro, BTW.
I don't recall you ever mentioning Canon's Camera Connect phone app in your M50 reviews. It's worked well for me, and I use it all the time. Also, the "Scenes" mode has useful and fun settings built in to the camera that really can help users get more professional looking results. 😎
I just ordered the MKII about 3 days ago.....your video just showed me that I can wirelessly live stream lol...I bought it for the clean HDMI out and now I can wirelessly live stream?! OMG
Have you ever looked at the Rokinon (Samyang) 12mm f/2.0 - M? It's manual, but it's a fast lens with excellent image quality. It's light enough to work with my M-50 on a Crane M2. I use it all the time for architecture. At 12 mm, manual focusing is a non-issue. For general use, I just set the lens to infinity and go. For vlogging, you can just zone focus to 3 feet or use focus picking before you start recording. This method will also allow you to use 4K without focus problems.
Hey, great videos but you probably need to update these videos as we know for a fact that Canon is phasing out the M series. The M6 MKII is already discontinued and obviously, we are not going to get any more EF-M lenses. I heard they might drag out the M50 MKII. I was torn between the M50 MII and M6 MKII, and thankfully decided to visit a Canon Store nearby. That's when I learnt about this. After a lot of research and considering my budget, I went with the Nikon Z50 because of the kit zoom lens. I know a lot of people complain about that lens, but I will upgrade when I reach that level. For now, I am extremely happy. ps: I am pasting this comment on a few more videos I watched so that it can help others too. Not attempting to spam or anything.
Hey Sagi, I always love your videos, you explain them with great detail and amazing cinematography. Question: I am not sure if you have a video on how you light your shots (specifically B-roll)? As they are super crisp and clean and they are just a pleasure to watch. Would love to know. Thanks.
I have a question. I have my Canon 80D, and decided to get a mirrorless camera. (I was thinking about it for a while, my friend has been talking about a Fujifilm X-T3 for a long time and was able to purchase/try out/ send to him overseas. Because of his camera I decided to buy my M50m2--because I am a Canon fan back from the film days) I have a couple lenses from my 80D I really love. Both Tamron, the SP 45mm f1.8 and the 18-400mm lenses. The 18-400mm lens I get really great macro photos, the bokeh is really good!! I bought a couple EF(s) to EOSM adapter, one Viltrox and one offbrand and have had both lenses on them. The Viltrox works a little better, BUT my problem is, the autofocus works, the Vibration control I don't think is working. When I turn the camera off the next time I turn it on the autofocus doen't work. I have to keep the camera on, then take the lens off and reattach it to the camera and the autofocus works fine after that until the next time I turn it off. I bought the Canon EF to M adapter thinking it should solve the problem and I still have the same think happening. I guess what I am going to have to do is email Tamron and ask them about this. I know if I email Canon they will simply tell me to buy Canon M mount lenses. I really love my 18-400mm lens, I bought it new a few years ago, it has been on my camera for a long time. I know the firmware is current, I have the Tamron "Tap-in Console" and can connect the lens to their website and check for current updates. I don't know if anyone else has tried Tamron EF or EF-S lenses with their M50m2 and have the same problem. Maybe one day I will find my answer. The M50m2 is great little camera, I already bought a cage so I am not pressing the buttons on the lower right hand corner.
Hey, how is it going? Thanks for the video. Love your video and the way you explain and details everything. Said that, I'm sad to hear you saying that, 90% of the people doesn't subscribe to the channel. That's crazy and, it's not really comforting .
1. For video (not streaming), does it still have a 30 min recording limit? 2. Does the vertical video automatic orientation not happen with the original M50? Awesome video!! Thank you!!
I have a RUclips channel Specialist with explanations about the Playstation 5 And I saw all your videos about Canon Sl3 ... but when I Saw you video About Canon M50 mark ll So that I ask You Which one better for me... & I would like to thank you for your very helpful technical reviews regarding cameras.
Something I've been considering. I still love my M50, but I really miss the extra bulk of larger cameras from when I use to run my Canon T3. I've been considering upgrading to the 90D, I miss using the viewfinder plus I still have almost all my older EF/S glass. And I think its got really good video specs. But lately I've been looking at the RP as a potential future investment for when Canon goes all in with their RF lens line, and I really like the ergonomics. So I'm really torn between the 2.
One thing to keep in mind with the RP is that EF-S lenses will work fine, but the crop means you are only getting a ten megapixel image. That's not the case on the 90D, or the M50 with an adapter.
@@patrickfitzgerald2861 Another thing to consider for me. I was originally levitating to the 90D, but the camera store sales rep I was talking to was trying to push me to the RP. Its full frame and future proofed using the RF lenses, since Canon will/is eliminating the EF line of glass. And having physically touching them, I do like the control layout of the RP better. But the feature packed 90D and better 4k filming, its tough not to bounce between the 2.
So wait you're choosing this over the m6 mark ii. I've been watching your videos and I figured the m6 mark ii was the better buy. Now I see this. Should I return my M6 mark ii
I bought the m50 last year (mk.I). At first I really liked it, but not being able to monitor or adjust audio input level while recording has really become a dealbreaker for me. Also, canon’s lens lineup kind of bugs me. I don’t want to deal with a lot of adaptors for different lenses. I’m thinking Sony a6400 would suit me better. Great review, btw.
@@TechGearTalk Oh wow, that's a really nice feature. Though I am not sure why Canon didn't fix that on the mk.I with a software update. Anyway, thanks for letting me know, and keep up the great content.

The M50 cameras are compact, good for travel and street shooting, but I prefer the MFT cameras or going with the larger Canon, which has great controls. Getting to love the Fv mode the most on the Canon RP. -Loren
I always watched your videos and then decided to subscribe your channel for more latest informative videos
Hello, I binged watched A LOT of your camera videos, and I love how they're so informative and easy to take in!! Your visuals are spectacular too! you're my favorite go-to RUclipsr now when it comes to cameras and other equipment :)
I'm a freshman at college, and my course is film.
@@TechGearTalk Thank you for your reply! I might be buying it soon :) can't wait to watch more of your videos, hope you have a good week!
Great video. Really helpful. We are currently trying to decide what camera to upgrade to, so this really helped us out!
hey hey, I live in The Netherlands and the question I keep asking myself is why is everything so hella expensive here.
Very clear and informative video. Thanks for sharing your knowledge 👏
What's up Sagi. Super informative comparison video. The M50 is our favourite camera and the new features of the mk2 improve on the original immensely. Take care, stay safe and healthy, both of you. Ray and Sue.
Ngl I subbed just because of your intro in another m50 video. Love the reviews though I can't wait to get one of these cams for myself
I appreciate the feedback and support.
After this video I have decided to buy M 50 Mark II thanks
Apart from price and 4K, Which one would you recommend, M5 MarkII or M6 markII?
M6 mark ii. However Canon probably will leave eos-M system. The last significant updates are of more than a year old.
Thank you so much for your vids, I got M50 and I found everything I needed on your channel, and BIG THANKS for explaining everything
So glad I could help! CONGRATS!!!
Hi I am from India.. Ur videos are awesome and clear explanation👍.. Is sony zv2 is available.. Review that camera..
Yes, there is a highest resolution (4k). But, does 4k works good?
Excellent video, as always. 🙂
Thank you! This video was very helpful.
I so looking forward to get a M50 MK ii now
Great video! Always great content!
Hey Ross, great review. Thank you.
WE WERE ON A BREAK!!! 🤣😂 Thanks for watching.
Straight to the point great stuff
Over and over and over again 🤩
👍🏻
Thanks for the review Ross..
Hi Tyler, I'm not sure if it's possible, but I would 100%, every single time, use a USB and use my MBP if I had the option.
@@TechGearTalk thanks!
Love your video in my area the m50 mark ii is $699.99
In minute 1:40 you are touching the screen while it’s off… can you drag the focus point that way??
You didn't say anything about transferring pictures and videos to phones and laptops?
Great review man. But I am still Team Sony. Just got the Sony A7III and Sony A7C
Excellent video bro✌🏻
Hey Sagi, I always love your videos, you explain them with great detail and amazing cinematography. Question: I am not sure if you have a video on how you light your shots (specifically B-roll)? As they are super crisp and clean and they are just a pleasure to watch. Would love to know. Thanks.
Great video! I'm getting one and calling on you for lessons!
I would love to have a sound when i start recording
That's a feature I would like as well in some cases - a toggle for it would be perfect!
I think a headphone jack would've been a great physical addition to the M50 markii but that's just my opinion.
At least you can monitor audio with the external recorder or monitor, but of course that's more money.
@@TechGearTalk That is true.
In the Netherlands the M50 + 15-45mm kit lens the mk1 sells for € 599, the mk2 for € 749, a hefty € 150 ($ 180) more.
Appreciate you sharing! That's a huge difference 😱
1. For video (not streaming), does it still have a 30 min recording limit?
2. Does the vertical video automatic orientation not happen with the original M50?
Awesome video!! Thank you!!
Thank you, it is a very interesting review, as usual you are very consistent !!! I never get bored from your video but still I am team Sony A7iii 😁
Thanks so much Mohamed! The a7iii is an outstanding camera!
Hi Freinds...
I Wonder between
Canon Sl3
And Canon M50 Mark ll???
Which one I Bought???
Thx....
What will you use it for?
@@TechGearTalk For RUclips.
I have a RUclips channel Specialist with explanations about the Playstation 5 And I saw all your videos about Canon Sl3 ... but when I Saw you video
About Canon M50 mark ll
So that I ask You
Which one better for me...
@@patrickfitzgerald2861
Another thing to consider for me.
On the Canon store in Canada there is a price difference of & 120! That's with both camera's being on sale.
i need a full frame to make the most out of my vintage lenses what do u reccomend?
Finally a camera video!
Hope you enjoyed it
@@TechGearTalk yeah man it was really helpful. I'm looking foward to the lens review!
So wait you're choosing this over the m6 mark ii. I've been watching your videos and I figured the m6 mark ii was the better buy. Now I see this. Should I return my M6 mark ii
Would this be good camera for wedding and portrait photography?
Thank you for this review video of the M50 Mark II as I am a huge fan of the M50 Mark II camera. I posted this video on my FaceBook page.
Some good points - they are mentioned in tomorrow’s video 👍🏻
I WAS WORNG - you can actually monitor the audio right on the M50 MK II by hitting the INFO button and switching views!
@@TechGearTalk Oh wow, that's a really nice feature. Though I am not sure why Canon didn't fix that on the mk.I with a software update. Anyway, thanks for letting me know, and keep up the great content.
