Tra esattamente 8 giorni il mio canale RUclips compirà ben 10 anni di attività e per l’occasione, con un po’ di anticipo, vi porto un video speciale!
Ho deciso di “trovare” un protagonista un po’ particolare e oserei dire praticamente unico!
Oggi salirete a bordo di questo pezzo di storia svedese! Scania 143!
Penso che per gli appassionati non servano molte parole per descrivere questo camion, già di suo è un’icona e questo esemplare è qualcosa di meravigliosamente meraviglioso! Questo modello fa parte della terza serie, prodotta dal 1987 al 1996 (questo del video è un fine serie). La sigla M sta a significare il tipo di telaio, in questo caso è un telaio di media robustezza per impieghi stradali, il modello in questione è denominato “streamline”. Monta un poderoso motore Scania 14 litri V8 che sviluppa 420 cv, come ben si vede, questo mezzo è estremamente personalizzato e customizzato, è stato acquistato nel maggio del 2020, dopo un fermo di 3 anni, è stato tagliandato e controllato per poi esser trasferito in carrozzeria per il restauro totale durato da gennaio 2021 fino allo scorso giugno. Verniciato completamente a mano, una rifinitura davvero pazzesca ve lo posso garantire, lo stile della verniciatura e la disposizione delle luci arancioni viene chiamato “Holland Style”.
Penso che un video in prima persona a bordo di questo fantastico Scania si l’unico modo per farvi capire di cosa stiamo parlando, in questa mezz’oretta di video lo vedrete scorrazzare liberamente e non impegnato in viaggi di trasporto/servizio, cosa che questo mezzo fa molto raramente visto che è principalmente usato solo per “esposizione”.
Che altro dirvi, vi lascio al video! Mettetevi comodi e mi raccomando col volume perché ne sentirete delle belle e godetevelo fino alla fine perché credetemi che sarà un’esperienza davvero fantastica!

Being in the US , I never cared for the European style trucks. But after seeing fixed up trucks like this I have started liking them. They are built for their surroundings just like our huge trucks are. I definitely like the older Euro trucks better than the new. I wish they wouldn't have done away with cab overs here though. My dad had an old International Trans Star cabover when I was a kid. It had the old 2 stroke Detroit that screamed and caused major hearing damage to the drivers. Still loved it! We owned a truck stop so I was raised around big rigs and can vividly remember all the cool cabovers that came through. Love the Scania!!

@@viarnay European trucks are not more advanced than American trucks, the classic ones are used more because they are better, but for example, the kenworth nex gen has the same technology and is more comfortable because it is not as tall and it is more spacious.
their flat noses is due to EU regulations. There's a maximum length, cab included. That's why they look so shitty, lol.

My first truck was a 143M 420 4x2 back in 1996/1997. With an exhaust flap under the hood, shiny Alcoa wheels and a nice Chereau trailer in the back , en route from Tirol/Austria down to the south of Italy -> those glorious days Iˋll never forget 😄 thx 4 sharing 🤝

I had a 143M 420 V8 in the 90,s pulling a ejector trailer running waste out of London to landfill at Bedford, Great truck and very reliable.

Your truck at lower RPMs and throttle sounds so smooth and quiet...then you step down on the throttle like passing cars and wow does it wake up! Nothing sounds like a Scania. Very distinct sound, very different from what we have over here in the USA. Thank you!

You would almost forget how beautiful that V8 runs without open pipes. Delicious.
It sounds phenomenal, but duuude when you pressed that little buttom at 6:01 things started to get serious. The engine sound is beautiful.

@@RealNameNeverUsedit changes the exhaust valve that's why the sound of the truck changes from the normal one to a different one
appreciate that you let it run for a bit before starting to film so we didn't have to endure that awful buzzing sound haha

Loved the video, you brought me back to the early 2000’s when I was coming out of Ireland with fresh fish to the Continent with a 94 143. She was a flat top and I was in my mid twenties and I look back at that time with fond memories. Thank you for looking after that old girl and keeping fond memories fresh. I am in the US now and still driving with a Western Star with a big ole Kitty Cat under the hood and straight piped .
Many people say the 143 is the best truck Scania ever built! - and this sound! Wow!
And I like this retro style. This steering wheel reminds me of the Scania B55 bus from 1961 some of my friends bought for recreation use in the 1980's. This was a full-size bus with only a (pretty tired) 120hp engine so it was a quite different driving experience. 😀

Beautiful! I took my license in one like that, 25 years ago. It had the original steering wheel, though.
The "Digger Girl" Amy Underwood from Scotland bought a 143 and it's now undergoing restoration somewhere in England. She doesn't reveal anything about the restoration but she says it will be "something special". I find it exciting.

First semi was a Kenworth cabover, always been a fan of Scanias. There's actually a stronger presence for Scanias in America for their marine engines. Wouldn't mind swapping a current generation V8 into something, although that would cost a bazillion dollars

Nice to see somebody using the clutch as it's supposed to be used.
Having been a truck driver myself, I've never understood that weird idea of "real truck drivers use a clutch only to get away from a standstill".
Like my driving instructor used to say: "that clutch is there for reasons, so use it", said reasons being to make the gearshifts easier and to minimise wear and tear on the gearbox.
If you know how to float properly you don't need to use the clutch.
@@metalforever12085 That's the kind of non-answer I read all the time. Just because you CAN shift without using the clutch, doesn't mean you HAVE to do it.
My question is "what are the supposed advantages of not using the clutch?"
Here are some of the arguments against shifting without using the clutch:
- It doesn't make you a better driver
- It doesn't make for faster gear shifts
- It causes higher wear in the gearbox
- You can't do totally clutchless shifts as you need the clutch to pull away from a standstill aka the clutch is there for a reason.
Really not using the clutch to shift gears, that's something i never heard before, then they destroyed the entire transmission, after 100k miles right. In my country where manuals are the norm, the clutch needs to be replaced after about 800k miles.
@@ricardojimmyb A lot of mainly US truckers seem to think they only have to use the clutch when pulling away from a standstill.
Once the rig is rolling, they purposefully and very proudly don't use the clutch again, until they come to a full standstill.
They brag about "rev-matching" and "floating gears" and "how using the clutch is for wimps, as REAL truckers don't use no stinking clutches."
Oddly enough they never say anything about the longevity (or lack thereof with this treatment) of the gearboxes........
@@tjroelsma This Scania has a synchronized box if you didn't notice, these boxes are usually not shifted without clutch. If you "float" the gears properly in an non synchronized box it won't harm anything what's so hard to understand? Why would it ? I haven't heard of a single 18speed failing prematurely in my area and all the guys around here shift without clutch. I drive dump trucks so short distances and lots of shifting, it's just so much smoother more enjoyable to float the gears. To each their own, double clutching is fine too. As far as fast gearshifts jake shifting without clutch sure is faster than double clutching, obviously no need to do it all the time but a nice technique to use when grabbing gears uphill

Love these big Banga V8's. There used to be a time when US trucks lead the world in customisation and Euro trucks were just boring, dull workhorses but it seems like the tables have turned. What I'd love to know is....who started the giant white steering wheel fad in Europe? And why?
The white three-spoke steering wheel was pretty much standard in Scanias - and other trucks and buses - in the 1950.s and 1960's- and even before and a little after. It's just a retro thing for people who like it. Who started? I don't think anyone knows. It's giant because power steering wasn't standard back then.

I’ve been driving a 143 M for years . A very good truck . That one on the video doesn’t have the original steering wheel and not the original dashboard colour .
I largely prefer the original version .

O que estranho é que as ruas na Europa geralmente não tem acostamento...relativamente estreita as ruas das cidades...mas esse 143 é lindo...desfila nas estreitas ruas...
Cidades todas antigas, do tempo das carruagens, por isso são estreitas, alguns centros históricos aqui no Brasil, embora mais "novos" também tem ruas estreitas, o centro que conheço pessoalmente e tem ruas estreitas é Paranaguá.

I have driven trucks in many a different terrain and circumstance.... if the machine has to WORK the fun starts!!!.... and if the truck is sound it is better for the truck (and especially the engine!!!) to be put to work.... Diesel engines contaminate inside (carbon deposits) if they live a lazy life..
But looking at your lovely truck it is understandable you don’t want to risk damage...
