Thank you 🙏 really try to give the best perspective possible on this while not going too far. Still think there are some real questions but this team is better positioned right now than they have been in a long time!
I would like to see them upgrade at backup catcher and one more reliable bullpen pitcher. And in spring training figure out who's playing 2nd base between Campbell,Grissom and Hamilton. The outfield is set up right now for Roman Anthony to win a job in the spring. No need to add any big name player unless it's Nolan Arenado and they can dump Masa to open up a rotation of Devers, Casas, and Arenado through the DH spot. Anywho just a few thoughts. Great video as always.
I honestly think it’s way more likely Campbell breaks camp on opening day than Anthony just due to what positions are open. Definitely if we don’t pick up a RH bat, Campbell should be on the OD roster. And agreed, we need another catcher and could use a good closer - but overall the team is really not far off from being set. Thanks for tuning in and commenting as always! 🙏
It upsets me that people consider spending money as success. The Red Sox have 3 big contracts from 2024, Giolito, Story and Yosida. Wouldn't the red sox be better off without them? Long term contracts for older players usually end up bad. People were glad when Sale was trading. No one saw him having a Cy Young year in him.
Spending $25 million annually over 1-2 years on a reclamation project vs spending $25 million over 7-8 years on proven assets is the disconnect I think. There’s obviously less risk involved on short term deals, but you have to take shots at stars at times and can’t always just be signing people who had terrible years prior or are coming off significant injury in hopes of a rebound. The Red Sox simply have not balanced that well at all the last half decade.
Buehler said himself that he didn’t want to sign a long term contract. He’s looking to show he’s healthy, pitch well, and then sign a big, long term contract. That’s not the Sox’s issue.
Yeah I’m just wondering if you present him with a 2 year/$45 million with maybe a mutual/player options after it’s a little more security for him in case it doesn’t work out while giving us an extra year in case it does. Very possible he just wasn’t open to it at all, but I’d be interested to know how that conversation went.
@ Heard he turned down a three year from the Sox because he only wanted one year from whoever he signed with. Like you, I’d much prefer a minimum of two years. That would be fantastic. Thanks for doing the show. It’s enjoyable and informative.
I think Fitts has a chance.. he proved himself last season... Cora would be wise to start the season with a 6 man rotation so that guys like Hauck, Crochet and Crawford don't go belly up again after the Allstar break with the excuse that "ooohhhh they never pitched that many innings in a season before"
I think that it would be wise to get more spot starts in there for other guys when you have this depth in the rotation that hasn’t been seen in a long time, but I don’t think you should go straight to a 6 man rotation as that does tax your bullpen much heavier.
Buelher only signed to have a "show me' season so he can get the big contract next winter.. he is betting on himself that is why he only wanted one year and Breslow was willing for the Red Sox to benefit from Buelher's determination in 2025
You can win without spending money necessarily to the levels of some of these other guys but there comes a point where they just need to put their wallet on the table for certain players - haven’t really seen that in a while outside Devers.
This guy isnt going to convince me this is anything better than a .500 team. They improved the starting rotation by one player but dont have a closer and much of your pitching is coming back from injuries so this first year will be average at best. Offensively you lost you second major power source and you are left with a lot of second year players who are going to regress. You had a couple of career years last year so that wont be repeated. You fortunately have a great manager but he can only win so much with a 4 A lineup. Fourth place, last place if the Blue Jays somehow sign some people. It will be another year like last year .500.
We had like 4 actual Starting Pitchers by the end of Spring Training 2024, right now the Red Sox have 8 guys who definitely could get starts and contribute, the depth is HUGE and taxed the crap out of the bullpen in the middle months of the season. The Red Sox had the 7th highest team OPS last year, and the only offensive piece we’ve lost is O’Niell - who will likely be replaced. There’s a VERY possible chance that this is a top-5 pitching staff in all of baseball and at worst I’d think still a top-10 barring major injury. Combine that with a top-10 offense and we’re talking a team that’s very much a postseason contender.
@@SoxContent Yes but if you have 8 starting pitchers you have no starting pitchers. Crochett is the best but only one year of starting. This isnt a lock for greatness but it is the 1 that we needed. All the rest are basically from last years rotation who flamed out after the league adjusted to them. Buehler is another injured player we are hoping bounces back. Houck to me is a reliever. He couldn't even be effective for the whole year. He is a 3 at best. After he was adjusted too he went back to the middling pitcher he has been. Bello seems to be a wreck they extended because Pedro Martinez was supposed to work with him. Pedro was gone by the start of the regular season and Bello was horrible. Pedro got the kid paid and he was gone. Kutter Crawford could be good but is probably a 4 at best. Another one who wasn't the same once the league adjusted. So you have 1 could be great, could flame out with Crochett, One guy who is coming back from injury and was only good in the playoffs and is here 1 year. This team is the rehab station of the MLB. We sign pitchers who are injured and if they get healthy they leave. You have Kutter who we will see who he is this year, I have a feeling he is going to be a average 4 pitcher. OK for innings but not an ace. Bello you have for a few more years and are stuck with him. Houck we will see but he still appears to be 2 times through the order maximum player. So now the bullpen has to pitch half of every game. Though the bullpen could be good it could be bad too. At least 2 players coming back from injury, some who haven't pitched in over a year. They dont really have a closer and they dont have anyone who is feared out there. So we will see. Not to mention a weak lineup with a lot of rookies who will regress and lose their value. This is a .500 team. The same as last with a weaker bullpen. A marginally better rotation and a weaker lineup. So how is this team going to improve. 3 of the last 4 years they have been .500 or worse HOW is this team going to be better. Santander isnt worth much. The Orioles dont want him and neither does the rest of the league. He only hits well from one side, Isn't a great defensive player or have speed. Maybe a one year deal but is it really worth it for one year. This team needs veteran leadership and more solid players. But its a team that wants reclamation projects and failing cheap players. It is time to freeze out this team for a year. A half empty opening day would be a great signal to ownership if they dont want to spend neither does the fan base. Older fan bases would not let this go and would not just keep giving the team money to continue this joke of a team. They dumped all our stars and just do the bare minimum but still charge like its a championship team. NESN or whatever their streaming service is called should see 20-30% decrease in its subscribers and this park should be half empty all year to give ownership a wake up call. Instead of chearleading this team there should be a call to arms of the fan base to abandon this team until they get themselves either a change of attitude or think of selling, we can only hope. Until them I will have a free summer that I dont have to worry about stressing over this team being an also-ran for another year. If it wasn't for Toronto's failure we would definitely be the last place team in this division. 500. team that is all they are. It is what they have been and I dont see any improvement on this team overall at all.
ahhh man corbin burnes out of the al east red sox wasting money on beuhler it just gets easier for the yankees and i love it. Its going to be another yankee dodger world series again
Yeah I still think the Yankees have to be the AL favorites but every team is regressing closer to .500, including NY, so it’s going to be really interesting how it all plays out.

Yeah I really do think he could be a top 10 pitcher in the American League next season and that isn’t even a stretch in my eyes.
Red sox ownership is more concerned about Liverpool winning the EPL.
They aren't spending money I'm very disappointed they need to spend money to win a championship
