Tubereuse Criminelle was the one I hated with my every cell at the first sniff. It was that bad that I had to put my scent strip in a spare room for a few days. However it proved me so wrong and made me happy to be wrong! I tested it on my skin and summer day made it glow! I adore it and own the black skyscraper. One of my favourites and certainly tuberose with a character!
What I love about it most is precisely what I hated about it at first sniff - the wintergreen aspect, with its hints of petrol/gasoline. I recall I literally recoiled in horror. All these years later, this is THE tuberose. Nothing at all like it anywhere, nothing like Fracas at all, just one weird ride that somehow metamorphs into a haunted beauty (as a few Lutens creations indeed seem to me) … of a tuberose.
My favorite tuberose, after Carnal Flower. 💖💖💖 I’ve so many favorites from SL, and so many still on my wishlist. I guess, I’d better get them off the list and into my collection, before prices go up! Or before they disappear! 😟
Serge has intriguing fragrances, and I've tried a few, but so far the only ones I've kept are L'eau D'armoise and L'eau de Paille. Am hoping there will be others in the future that meet my olfactory desires. See you when you return!
Persolaise, I loved your review of Tubereuse Criminelle by Serge Lutens. It is a great fragrance that my ex girlfriend use to wear. I always loved the way it smelled on her. Serge Lutens is no longer selling fragrances in America. I miss sampling fragrances from this great fragrance house. I own several fragrances from the brand that I cherish.
I like Madonna's Truth or Dare, although it has a slightly plastic opening. The only 'celebrity' perfume I'd wear. I like Fracas, although it's somewhat overpowering. The Tuberose in Franck Boclet's Cocaine is good for summer. Atelier Cologne's discontinued Cafe Tuberosa is another gourmand take on tuberose. The tuberose in Homoelegans' Paloma y Raices. All enjoyable. Fusion Sacree Clair from Majda Bekkali less so, the rhubarb note is a little too strong for me; but I can't get past Tubereuse Criminelle's 'Vicks vapor rub' opening. Also, Tom Ford's Tubereuse Nue smells like Pledge furniture polish to me. The only Serge Lutens I wear is Veilleur de Nuit, also apparently discontinued. I keep searching but I fear as it was so expensive to begin with I may never find it again.
This version smells very similar to my export bottle. It's a rather faithful formulation to me. I'm very confused what Lutens is doing. Feels like this bottle isn't old at all!
So what exactly is the rumour? Is it going to be discontinued or put into a different bottle? The tall black one doesn't appeal to me at all and I assume it also is responsible for the high price tag. The jar bells are more aesthetic but not very user friendly... .
To me Tubereuse Criminelle is in the same category as Iris Silver Mist and Musc Kublai Khan; wearable art. These are scents everyone passionate about perfume must smell. I wish they were less expensive so I could justify buying them all. I find Sarrasins, Ambre Sultan, and the Bois series art as well, but more approachable and wearable in different circumstances. Whatever commercialism the brand descends into, the innovation and brilliance still stands.
I just blind bought the de produndis. It is super good, fresh florals. I think i m a garden. Please try in case you hvnt tried it yet. Bottle worthy! One of the best florals i hv tried in last 12 m
Wish perfume companies would stop making screw on atomizers. Makes it easy for people to tamper the juice inside. Pretty sure there are those who buy newer Serges and refill the old Serge bottles and sell on eBay.
This is my signature perfume! I remember it was $360 here in Austere when I first bought it in 2014 and I just bought a new one yesterday at $515. It is my absolute favourite so I still payed the price but damn I can’t believe how much the price has gone up 🥲.

Yes -- divisive in the most glorious way.
Thanks for watching.

Sheila!
Yes, you're totally right. It's so unusual and fascinating and frightening and complex and magnetic. A glorious piece of work.
Would love to get your thoughts on SL Chergui, Santal Majuscule, Fumerie Turque, Vetiver Oriental!
I’ll see what I can do 😊
This perfume makes me feel like I'm precariously running my finger along the edge of a very sharp blade.
Superb description.

Yes - price increases are always a nuisance. Thanks for watching.

It really is wonderful, isn’t it.
Ok, I panicked....I love tubereuse criminelle! It's been on my wish list for a long time now. Discontinued???? I just ordered it!
Enjoy!
And thanks for watching.

I agree that Truth Or Dare was one of the better celeb scents, but I fear she released it far too late in the game.
Thanks for watching.

Strange. Perhaps it hasn’t been changed much after all.

At this stage, who knows. I thought it was being discontinued.
Ohhh, I wouldn't have thought TC sales have been doing badly...
It's in my wish list
It’s very special.
TC here in Sydney is A$515 at Myer (a Australian department store and official stockist of SL). For comparison's sake, a Big Mac is A$6.60
Goodness me.
Thanks for watching.

I totally agree, Lia.
Thank you so much for watching.

Thanks very much indeed.
@@Persolaise thks :)
I love it.
Me too.
I just smelt this, got a sample. i think the inside of my nose just froze off, its ultra cold
Yes, the opening is a blast of ice.

Oh dear. I suppose that’s possible.
Thanks for watching.

Yes - that’s quite a price increase!
