      how could you forget ?? Bro was on absolute monster in 09'. Batted .350 with almost a 1.150 OPS that postseason if I recall. And over .600 BA in the WS. Truly different

    How good that must have felt for Matsui. Such a beloved player in the organization. He really gave it all for us. They wouldn't have won 2009 without him

    You can tell Yankee announcer Frank Messer was shocked by the Reggie reaction. in those days it was rare to see an opposing layer cheered like that but NY fans loved Reggie

      @Fries His last season as a Yankee in 2013 was his free agency season. Yanks offered a 7 year $175 Million contract but turned it down for a 10 year $240 Million contract with Seattle. His reasoning was he wanted a longer contract. Ended up being better for the Yankees in the long term after Cano's positive PED test in '18 and again in '20. Had he taken the Yankees deal that would've been twice he tested positive for PEDs while wearing the pin-stripes. Instead it was once as a Mariner and once with the Mets

    Matsui was a MONSTER in that 2009 WS he single handedly won that championship 27 for the Yankees in the most dominated Yankee in my lifetime...

    Tino Martinez was my childhood. Should’ve never left the Yankees. Tino is still the best Yankee first basemen over the last 25 years.

    Seeing Matsui, Damon and Swisher return was heart warming. They are 3 key guys in winning the 09 championship, instrumental players for that run. Cano was great too during his 9 years in NY but honestly, screw Cano lol! Preferred a few meaningless Millions over his Yankee legacy.

    For some reason I think their is a lot more former Yankees then this… off my head I remember Mike Stanley returning in 96 with the Red Sox got a standing ovation he was a popular yankee. Danny Tartabull retuning in 96 with the white sox got booed and Ruben Sierra returning a week after the Yankees traded him for Cecil Fielder in 96 homered in his first at bat back at yankee stadium.     People have an issue with us booing Judge after a beyond atrocious postseason production, but don’t realize we applaud for the ones that contributed to our WS title. We Yankee fans can be harsh, but also show tremendous massive respect for our boys

    I think the welcomes were much louder in the early 2000s-2010s because the Yankees won so much - if Stanton ever left New York and returned as a visiting player, I'm pretty sure he'd get a resounding chorus of boos.

      There's also science behind it. The sound reverberated more in the old stadium because of the mezzanine. The new stadium is designed to let the noise out.

    It’s the difference between being let go by the Yankees and spurning the Yankees. Cano is now hated the the fans. Grandy got booed that day because he made some silly bitter comment about true New Yorkers being Mets fans. I think most Yankees fans are cool with Grandy these days.

    Robinson cano really ruined his career by not staying with the Yankees. Would have paid him top dollar. Mariners were never going to be a good place to go. They aren’t commmited to winning. Whats it with teams not wanting to win anymore?

      Not really odd. Cano left the Yankees for a poverty franchise and the money in his prime. Damon, Swisher, Granderson, and Matsui all left cause the team phased them out given it was the end of their careers.

    Lol - how can you even call the new Yankee Stadium/Yankee Stadium. Its like once the video flipped to NYS nobody moticed or cared with the exception of Matsui since it was a ring ceremony in opening day. The OYS had a more authentic feel of true fandom
