    Dingy, gloomy, old cracked walls, Frank Sinatra, bob sheppards eerie voice, spirits of yankee legends roaming the stadium. Truly was a magical place

      Mc Shibby It’s the old places that really do echo the ghosts of the old guard.Mantle,Maris,Dimaggio,Ruth Gehrig,Ford,Jackson,Martin,Larsen, Wells,Jeter,Rivera and Posada.I’ve been a lifelong Red Sox fan but I’ve always had a soft spot for the Yankees because of all the history that they have.27 rings don’t come easy and to have the run of dominance they had from the 20’s to the early 2000’s is incredible.If your a sports fan it’s hard NOT to appreciate the Yankees.

    This made me want to cry. My dad would take me all the time back in the 90s. He passed away in 2018.
    Anyway, there was nothing like the old stadium. Walking through the gates at dusk to be welcomed by Eddie Layton’s organ music, to Bob Sheppard, to knowing the Yankees were probably going to win.
    Also with chasing HR balls in the upper deck, what viewers might not realize is how steep the angle was and how dangerous that actually was. Once I saw two grown men both fighting over the ball, and then they both fell and started rolling down a few rows like an avalanche.

      My uncle once in the 80s was at a game in the upper deck with some friends. Some fat guy broke a seat and when he left my uncle wanted it. So he went to pull it out and as he did he went tumbling down like 5 rows of the upper deck. After that he was determined to get that seat and he did! He put under the shirt of his friend on his back and he wrapped his arm around him to act like a gay couple and hold the seat in his friends shirt. And they walked out of the stadium with the seat!

      Man yall need to stop crying. I loved the old stadium too, and scoffed at the idea of building a new one at first....but once the Red SUX came back from down 0-3 AND won the deciding game 7 AT said stadium, it was over. They destroyed whatever mystic and aura it had left. And if you don't believe me, then what happened to the yanks after 2004? 2005-2007 ALL 1st round exits, and 2008? Missed the playoffs for the first time since 93. It was time to move on. The ghosts of the old stadium would understand, hence why they won the WS the 1st season in the new ballpark. Now the problem they made was tearing down the old one in 2010. They haven't been to a WS since. The ghosts are clearly mad and l dont know how the yanks can please them 😢

    I went to so many games at the "old" Yankee Stadium, including the Maier game, and miss it a lot. 1996 was such a magical year, especially having grown up watching the 1980s teams. I've been to the new stadium twice and I have to say that as sad as it was to see the old place torn down, the pain and shock of the move was eased partly by just how much the new one looks like the old one, at least from the seats. The amenities and the space are really nice but they don't make up for the fact that when you look at right field in the new stadium, you're no longer looking at the spot where Babe Ruth stood; when you look at center field, you're no longer seeing the spot where Mantle and DiMaggio played.

    Great video! So many memories of the old Stadium including attending many of the greatest playoff games in the 90s (incl. Game 6 in 96') and 00's (incl. WS Game 4 in 01' and ALCS Game 7 in '03). Amazing energy! I will go against many of the commenters below and agree with you Zack that I understand why management opted for a new stadium. People tend to forget how dingy, crowded...the old stadium was. I remember attending a game as a 14 year old and completely losing my Dad in the crowd, it was an unsettling feeling - especially with no cell phones! Also, the food/dinner options were so so limited, basically hot dogs (often with no condiments) or bust. The newer one is laid out far better (i.e. sight lines to the game from the concourse without even having to walk to your seat) with so many nice food options and I've come to really enjoy attending games in it. I get the nostalgia of course and do wish they didn't have to tear the old one down but that's not how things work. Anyway thanks for bringing me back to simpler times!

We saw Mussina and Pettitte for the Yanks and Cliff Lee for the Indians. We sat in the outfield for the first two and our first reaction was how tight and dark it was under the bleachers even for an old stadium. Fenway has a lot of room under the outfield and Wrigley was bigger (even pre renovation) too. Cheers from a fellow baseball dork, almost the best time of year again. Have a great season.

      The stadium design was made to keep the seats closer to the field, unlike the current stadium. If you wanted the fans in the upper deck to still have a reasonably full view of the field, you needed to make the upper decks steeper. Even as it was, there were seats that didn't have full visibility of the field.

    I spend my entire childhood there. I was born in 73, so going to games when I was young was pretty easy, because they didn't win many games. We had a crappy team in the '80s, but that was okay by us, because it was easier and cheaper to get in the game everyday. Video is cool, brought back a lot of memories. You should have had less commentary though. Not that you suck or anything, but I think people would rather get lost in the moment it was being taped, rather than your updated take on it. Just seems more authentic when you're in the moment.

      I agree. Too many people refer to the renovated stadium of the 70s as “old Yankee Stadium.“ The renovated stadium of the 70s was strikingly similar to the current stadium. The original stadium was the one with character.

    What an awesome video, I went to old Yankee stadium a lot as a kid. Only been to the new one once bc I live out of state now. But I am not boycotting the stadium like others lol...I am as big a yankee fan as any and realize as time goes on, you can only do so much to an old stadium. At some point you need to build a new one. The new stadium has some amazing amenities in it and if the Yanks didnt build a new one, fans would be complaining about that. People that complain about the new stadium still wish you could go see a show in a booth on 42nd street. Times change..Yankees realized it was time and I could love the old stadium while appreciate the new one for what it is.

    • @Kevin-it4fh
      @Kevin-it4fh 3 года назад

      Unless the building was literally crumbling due to some disaster, then it would've still been fine like with Fenway and and could've had amenities added. New one was really built to milk more money from casual rich fans. But whatever; I'd rather see a few more world series more than anything.

    The atmosphere at the old Yankee Stadium--ESPECIALLY for a big postseason game--was unlike ANYPLACE on Earth! The greatest sporting event I ever attended was Game 2 of the 1995 Division Series against Seattle. When Mattingly went deep that place SHOOK--literally the Stadium was SHAKING!! Just an incredible electricity and passion that can never be duplicated anywhere else!!

    My only visit to the stadium was in August,1964. The original Yankee Stadium. I was 12 years old. The Yankees played the Red Sox and won 9 to 3. Mick hit one out to right center. Roger didn't play that day. Hector Lopez played in right that day and hit a home run in the right field seats. We were seated in foul territory near the right-field foul pole. In those days Yankee games on TV were in black and white and we only could watch a game on Saturday. Most of the time we listened on a transistor radio. So walking into the stadium in full color blew me away. That green copper facade and I had never seen grass so green before. The stadium was gigantic. The bathrooms and ramps to the seats were disgusting and dirty. We couldn't afford hot dogs or other refreshments so we just watched the game. The next day we went to the World's Fair. We stayed at The Dixie Hotel in Times Square and went to dinner nearby. It was the first time I had ever been out to a restaurant for dinner. I had spaghetti. We didn't see any other sites because we couldn't afford them. For our family, a picnic in the local park was our summer vacation so that trip to New York was really something special. I never got to visit the rebuild of the old stadium and now with the cost of tickets, I'm back where we were when I was a kid. I could never afford to go to the new stadium. Thanks for posting this tour. Those upper deck seats looked scary but the view of the game is really terrific. I hope to get to visit Heritage Field before I pass away and just walk out to where we sat that day and just take in the field and remember.
