Great list. Andy Pettite is one of my all time favorite Yankees. I also have a Mitchell and Ness 1939 Lou Gehrig jersey. The Luckiest Man: The Life and Death of Lou Gehrig is a fascinating read and I think you would enjoy it.
These players & managers just make me smile when I hear their names or see their faces. What other team could sport such an impressive pedigree? And 5, count 'em 5, catchers on that list. That's how important that position is.
Always a nice trip down memory lane even tho I wasn't alive for most of these I always appreciate yankee history but I am happy I got to witness posada, and Bernie 2 who represented the island very well 🇵🇷 and with Jeter being my fav yankee of all time
The next Yankee numbers that should be retired - Paul O'Neil #21, David Cone #36, CC Sabathia #52, Alex Rodriguez #13, and Brett Gardner #11 (when he eventually retires).
Haha! So true. No joke, I was at a game years ago at the stadium when I overheard a guy behind me tell his son the reason there are two retired numbers 8’s is because of Yogi Berra, as a player and the other as a manager. I almost fell out of my seat!
Numbers that need to be retired 11-Brett Gardner(If hes not playing anymore) 13- Alex Rodriguez 18 - Johnny Damon 22 - Roger Clemens 24 - Tino Martinez 33 - Either Nick Swisher or Alfonso Soriano 35 - Mike Mussina 36 - David Cone 52- CC Sabathia 55 - Hideki Matsui
Possible future jersey retirements: #52 - C.C. Sabathia - "Dub" dominated the AL during his first years with the Yankees. He led the league in wins twice and was the ALCS MVP in 2009. He kind of deteriorated during his final years but he experienced a career resurgance after he transformed from power pitcher to finesse -based pitching. 134-88 record with 60,4 Win % during his 11 years with the pinstripes. #24 - Robinson Cano - In recent years "Nolo" has been a somewhat of controversial figure. He has been twice suspended by MLB for using PED's with the most recent bust causing him to miss the entire 2021 season and possibly ending his MLB career here and there. He was a multi-time All-Star with the Yankees and was a .303 hitter with multiple Gold Gloves and Silver Sluggers to boot. #21 - Paul O'Neill - An important piece of the now legendary late-90's/early-2000's Yankee dynasty. He hit .359 with the Yankees in 1994 and placed 5th in MVP votes that year. His jersey is not been given to any other player after he retired in 2001 (with the exception of LaTroy Hawkins who briefly used it in 2008) I also thinked about A-Rod (#13) but I think that the general consensus is that he doesn't deserve to have his jersey retired in Yankee Stadium.
A-Rod almost certainly won't, as Joey Gallo is currently wearing #13. And I doubt the Yanks want to be associated with Cano at this point. Sucks that Paulie still hasn't had his jersey retired, he deserves it.
I hope one day soon the New York Yankees will retire number 31 for Dave Winfield. He was a hell of a player and a first ballot hall-of-famer. He put some great years in wth the New York Yankees and he deserves to be honored by the yankees. Retire #31!
A great video, but I knew you were going to screw up the Phil Rizzuto segment. You forgot to talk about his playing career! The number was retired only for his playing career; he did not wear the number as a broadcaster. His broadcasting career shouldn't even be mentioned when it comes to his retired number. His Monument Park plaque, on the other hand, is for both his playing career and broadcasting career because both deserve to be recognized and they can't give him two monument park plaques.
#45 Gerrit Cole If he makes the CYA voting multiple times in the future and continues to be the ACE of this team. #99 Aaron Judge He represents the Baby Bombers, and I believe he can have multiple MVP caliber seasons in the future. #27 Giancarlo Stanton If he continues to have clutch seasons like 2021, it is a no-doubter. I really enjoyed his hitting performance this season watching the highlights, making so many game-tying or comeback ABs.
2,3,4,5,7,8,9,15,16,32 and 42 should be the only numbers retired
Great production! I hope you get a million views.
FACTS! The best in the biz!
@@loric4423 100%!

This better be on the trending page
Retire #30 for Willie Randolph. :)
These players & managers just make me smile when I hear their names or see their faces. What other team could sport such an impressive pedigree? And 5, count 'em 5, catchers on that list. That's how important that position is.
Derek your badasss 💯🔥 also go Yankees!!
Well done, as usual Derek! Keep em coming
I’d say either Brett Gardner, Mike Mussina or CC Sabathia next.
Gardner Is not on the team anymore
Love it bro, good content
Outstanding vídeo loved it don't know the next number that will be retired
Will the Yankees ever retire Dave Winfield's #31?
I loved how Bernie Williams also had killer speed
Always a nice trip down memory lane even tho I wasn't alive for most of these I always appreciate yankee history but I am happy I got to witness posada, and Bernie 2 who represented the island very well 🇵🇷 and with Jeter being my fav yankee of all time
I loved Posada he was fiery and he played great defensively and offensively
The 1980s guys dont get enough recognition. Righetti, Randolph, Winfield. All played about a decade in New York.
Great video! Thanks! Stay safe and stay healthy!
Don't forget the Berra Aflac commercial
The next Yankee numbers that should be retired - Paul O'Neil #21, David Cone #36, CC Sabathia #52, Alex Rodriguez #13, and Brett Gardner #11 (when he eventually retires).
a-rod & big popi = PED.
Great video as always!! Volpe hopefully grabs zero.
You do a good job with these man. Well done. I hate that bill Dickey and elston Howard are so under appreciated.

Needs a Paul O’Neil update
Next up is Gardys 11.....or those pictures of The Boss that have kept him starting for what seems like 50 years, get leaked.
99 and 45 are soon coming
(Knocks on wood)
21 O'Neill and 52 CC
At this rate the Yankees will start having to use triple digits one day lol
Lou Gehrig all time favorite and Jeter is Captain Clutch
Numbers that need to be retired
11-Brett Gardner(If hes not playing anymore)
13- Alex Rodriguez
18 - Johnny Damon
22 - Roger Clemens
24 - Tino Martinez
33 - Either Nick Swisher or Alfonso Soriano
35 - Mike Mussina
36 - David Cone
52- CC Sabathia
55 - Hideki Matsui
No for Gardner. HELL NO for Damon (out of your mind?). The only ones that should be retired are Arod, Cone, Tino and CC.
You can now add number 21 for Paul O’Neil
Yeah I gotta update this
Possible future jersey retirements:
#52 - C.C. Sabathia
- "Dub" dominated the AL during his first years with the Yankees. He led the league in wins twice and was the ALCS MVP in 2009. All good ones hopefully CC and I really hope Brett Gardner but probably not sadly
#99 - Aaron Judge
And if they retire 24 thats gonna go to Tino not Cano
Do they retire A RODs Number?
No. Gallo already wearing it
21 for Paul O'Neil should be in there. No doubt.
New York Yankees 4 lifeeeee
I would really like to see them retire the 11 for Gardy but I don’t know if they will
I don’t see it happening
I think they will. If Howard and Dickey are retired, Gardner will be too.
I hope one day soon the New York Yankees will retire number 31 for Dave Winfield. He was a hell of a player and a first ballot hall-of-famer. He put some great years in wth the New York Yankees and he deserves to be honored by the yankees. Retire #31!
You missed one. Number 55 Matsui. Lol, I liked him.
Matsuis number is not retired. Domingo German wore it this season.
@@PinstripeTerritory It was a joke. 😆

Aaron Judge
Why isn't 21 retired??
52
#45 Gerrit Cole
If he makes the CYA voting multiple times in the future and continues to be the ACE of this team.
#99 Aaron Judge

Is it true that the Yankees have requested from MLB that their coaches to be without numbers because of the shortage? Or was that an April Fools Joke?
It’s true
I still wonder who was the idiot who didn't vote for Jeter.
Half of them don't even deserve it
