The main songwriter for this was the vastly underrated Liz Anderson, perhaps one of the five best female songwriters in country music history. She also was a pretty good singer and had 19 hits on Billboard's country chart. And of course was Lynn Anderson's mom!
***** I was hammered when I wrote that I think I was talking about Merle Haggard and Gram Parsons and I was wrong on both counts. But Parsons did hang out with the Stones in London writing with them until the Stones got tired of Parsons and his wife arguing all the time.
GP did ask Merle Haggard to produce his first solo lp. Haggard said he would then backed out at the very last second but his engineer Hugh Davies did work on it.
@@bigcomcast Keith Richards wife ran Gram off, he lived with Keith for awhile, she said he was a bad influence to Keith.....he did record Wild Horses prior to the Stones recording it...He was living with Keith when Keith and Mick wrote that song and he asked to record it, was on the b side of a 45.
I wish. This turned up anonymously on Concert Vault recently, along with Six Days on the Road and less than 90 secs of Dark End of the Street. I'll go ahead and post those.
Yes, there were some terrific musicians in the Burritos, but Gram had something special; creative spark, charismatic stage presence, and such emotive vocals.
I think one of the ideas of covering songs is to improve upon them in someway, and of course, putting your own signature on them. But all these Merle and other country covers fall short in the category of skill. Even the harmonies are out of tune.
Beauty they say is in the eye of the beholder !?? Same applies to one's taste in food;wine; perfume; reading material; & singing voices !?? I personally could listen to Gram's mellow tones ALLLL day !!..& BTW...HE did not DISCOVER EmmyLou ...she was very early on in her hoped for career &[ their voices blended so well together] ...gave her more confidence ....IF she needed any..It was i believe Chris Hillman who heard EmmyLou singing in some bar & told Gram to go have a listen ...the rest is ...an all too short history
@@gillianrichardson2404 Beauty is also in the ear of the beholder, and Gram can sing in my ear forever. He had an incredible ability to get to the heart of every song he sang.
Like w Hank Williams I don't think anyone would've lauded vocally. But he just had a way w that High Lonesome sound. Some of Gram's records his vocals sound a bit wobbly like here, but others sound terrific like Dark End of the Street on Gilded Palace.
@@andygossard4293 Not sure gram Parsons can be compared to Hank Williams.Williams struggled in the S Alabama honky tonk scene for many a year before he broke through and came from extremely poor circumstances. Parsons never had to worry about money in his life and followed the career paths of many an early hippy influencer starting out in the New York folk scene before being herded along with many others to LA. Sadly I have never heard him sing a tune that sounded good due to his vocal. HANK Williams had a great voice as did Dylan and Prine, etc. Because Parsons never really had to struggle, it may be that that is why he never really got his act together beyond discovering Emmy Lou Harris
@@jsigur157 You obviously don't know much about Gram Parsons' life. His struggles weren't monetary. His beloved father, a war vet, died of suicide when Gram was 12. His mother died of alcoholism when he was 18. All three parents suffered from alcoholism. His home life reflected this. Chris Hillman described him as unstable and lonely. The pain in his music was real.
Would be amazing to have the rest of the show. This was a great listen always down to hear gram put his unique spin on country classics.❤
I was very young amazed by this man. God speed we miss you Gram

Gram does Haggard ,proud
Cosmic American music.

beautiful,beautiful,beautiful Gram
@@conniewolf7300 Perhaps too pretty for his own good. He was flying pretty high for a few years and then tried to struggle back. Almost made it.
Thanks for the post and the credits, including writers and who plays what. It's important to know this stuff and to give credit for good work!
That 'info' was nearly ALWAYS on LP's..... A great way of DISCOVERING new band's & Artist's.....
Great slide show with this amazing performance . Thanks for sharing this
I have heard there are a few tapes of the live FBB with GP out there. This song may be from those tapes.

Many are called but few are chosen

Phil Kaufman, Michael Cooper, Andee Nathanson, Keith Richards, Anita Pallenberg, Sid Kaiser, Tony Foutz & Gram Parsons
Thanks, that's fascinating. And Michael, Sid and Gram all died in 73.
oooooh ti goo
Does anyone know what cd I can find this on ???
it's not available on any official release
@@rscottmurray that is too bad !! It’s awesome!!
Who is the guy in the green suit?
the great "Nudie" Cohn!
Suit maker extraordinaire; creator of Elvis' gold lame suit and Gram's famous marijuana leaves costume.
Roy Buchanan is just the BEST version ! - go try it!👍
Unfortunately you font have a clue. HAGGARD4LIFE

Liz & Casey Anderson, as mentioned in the video description.
What's that talk about GP when this band had about ten real star class players?

The only great thing Parsons ever did was discover Emmy Lou Harris- he's got a crap voice
