I have been embroidering since I was in high school ( I’m 65 now). In the past couple of years I have learned more from you than in the previous decades. Please keep sharing your wonderful techniques and projects!
I actually own a transfer pen and now I’m going to get it out and use it for the first time because now I know what to do with it! Thank you so much. You are a marvelous teacher.
I never would have thought to go from a stem stitch straight into a chain stitch. It came out beautifully. I really needed the tutorial on the transfer pen. This was all just so very helpful. Thank you so much.
Your embroidery works well with various beautiful threads- 4 strands is great and different type of stitches are beautiful! I really like what you did❤😊
Hello Sarah. This video has been very helpful. I’m old enough to remember - and used - the old iron on transfers that you could buy back in the day. I have seen these pens for sale but, frankly, was not convinced by them. This tutorial has changed my mind, so I thank you very much for this.
You can still get iron on transfers, I got a couple of different Books full of them for Christmas from my Daughter. You can trace them with these pens when the iron on bit runs out. A must when your as bad a drawer as I am. Lol.
@@maxibake9323 Hello Maxi, thanks for the info. I’ll look out for some on my travels. Like you, I can’t drawer either. Stick people rather covers it. And my mother was a professional artist too. I think I missed those genes. 🤔😂
I have some patterns I've never seen again to buy and they are favorites. I tried using a transfer pen. It's a bit fussy but so worth it. Made very clear and easy to follow. I'll keep using the pen!
Late to the party this week, but am glad that I finally made it here. Thanks for another great video, Sarah, and for the sweet design. The transition from stem stitch to chain stitch is fantastic. And I love the roses, ribbon leaves, and the beads. A touch of sparkle always brings a bit of joy to my life! 💖
I love this video. Plus your design turned out so lovely. So happy I found you last year. I’ve learned so much and you’ve flamed the fires of my embroidery love. Thank you to both you and Jonathan. Oh and Ginger cat too.
Hello Sarah, I just happened to stumble on you channel and I'm very happy I did. I have done lots of cross stitch and decided to give embroidery a try. Thank you for sharing you craft with us. Can't wait to learn more. Take Care 🥰
I love that transition from stem stitch to chain stitch! It gives it more of a handwritten look. Thank you also for the repeat pattern ideas. I have been afraid to use this transfer method because of it being permanent and worrying that it might move and get blurred in the transfer. I was quite surprised that it showed up so well on the darker purple fabric. On a side note, this brings back fond memories of my Granny embroidering pillow cases and tea towels using iron on patterns you could purchase back in the 60's and 70's. ❤🥰
Thanks again for another wonderful video Sarah, and I really liked the transition of stem stitch into chain stitch along the lettering. It gives a lovely depth to the flow .... and Ginger Cat was another enhancement!
I've never done that transition in anything before Jane, I don't knwo why not but I should have it works really well! Especially if you need to cover a design line...:)x
Thanks for this video, Sarah and especially for all your “tips” and “tricks” for using the transfer pen-I’ve always been a bit leery of using one but I’m feeling confident after watching your video to give it a try!
Loved this. Wonderful how you turned what initially looked a very plain design into something really pretty with your choice of colours and the different stitches. The beads add that extra sparkle! I have the pen but this video has given me more confidence in using it. 👍🏻
I was wondering if you can add a few 5 stitches videos targeted towards woven and braided stitches when you get some time. I have learned all my embroidery stitches from you and you are so talented and are also an amazing teacher as well. Thank you for everything
Love your videos and look forward to them every week. Could you do one on how to layout letters around a design in a circle or oval shape? Or post a link if you have done it already? Thanks.
I always love watching your videos! I've been in a phase of rekindling my love of crochet and dabbling in knitting which has been fun, but embroidery is my true love. Watching this has made me anxious to get back to my stitching! I always learn something new from you, Sarah...transitioning from stem to chain stitch is a brilliant technique that I can't wait to experiment with. Thanks for everything!
Excellent information! Greetings from Wisconsin USA and, of course, greetings to your ginger from the ginger currently keeping my knees warm, somnambulant Dexter.
Wonderfull video, I shall definitely buy one of those pens, and take that transition of stitches you did and use it myself, Thankyou so much love all your videos and your cat xElizabeth T.
Thank you for doing all the experimental 'leg work' with that Sarah, you've covered everything that it would normally take me a wasted afternoon and a right mess to find out!!.I had given up on the option of using any iron on paraphernalia after disastrous results with an iron on pencil a few years ago, which although it did work, it was so thick it was just impossible to get anything near a fine enough outline with, but the pen seems much better, and really loved the pretty 'sew' design too, thank you
It definitely needs some practice Rebecca! I think it would come into it's own if you wanted to do repeat patterns. (How much of a disaster can you create with a pencil?! :) x)
Well it was my own fault really....It was quite a small design I was trying to transfer, and I could see the pencil had quite a thick tip although I did sharpen it to as finer point as possible. It looked ok drawn on the paper, but I made the big mistake of not doing a proper test run first, and went straight on to my embroidery fabric, but as I ironed it on the design lines just seemed to flatten out and widen, it looked like a small design had been drawn in a too big crayon, the lines were far too thick to cover in the stranded cotton, and the design was too small to take heavier stitching, and my fabric was ruined. To be fair I was still very new to embroidery, but it did put me off using iron on methods again. I usually like to either trace, or thanks once again entirely to you, prick and pounce, and my new favourite you have converted me to, the wonderful Aqua trick marker!. Honestly I quote you so often that if I am wondering how to tackle anything stitch related, even my husband now says, "oh I'm sure Sarah will know", and of course you always do!!, really looking forward to the silk shading x@@SarahHomfrayEmbroidery
Hi. As always, a fantastic video, many thanks Sarah. I wonder if the Hemline transfer pencil is as good as the above pen? A sharp pencil may allow for finer lines. I may get one and try it. Be a great solution to the tricky issue of getting a fine design onto fabric :)
Hi....I'm a beginner at embroidery and am finding all the transferring quite intimidating. Can anyone recommend a transfer paper for ironing on (as show above) and also something suitable for printing directly from the computer that can be stuck on the fabric or ironed on please? I'm completely bamboozled when I search! Thanks so much in advance for any replies.
She did love it and some of the fabrics I used belonged to her originally in the form of clothes (one was her graduation outfit!) so it inadvertantly had a lot of meaning to her too!
