***DEAL ALERT*** Right now Best Buy has this for $1099 which is $650 off: howl.me/cj0hDdPoAKL
Yup that's what I paid today, although I should have been more patient and wait 20 more minutes for the review to come out. Regardless, the cons were fine for me, for the price I paid today.
One Question, Can you charge the laptop form usb-c cable with a 100W or 130W charger?
@@bigeric123es you can charge it with any laptop charger from 65 to 200W. Just don't charge it with anything more than that.
Today is the last day! Just bought mine! Can't wait! Love watching your videos! 💯👏👏👏
I lost the promotion 🥲, do you think they are going to put it again for black Friday?
Thanks for the great review ms. Andrew
I love this design from HP and I liked the screen, its features, and the texture of the keyboard for me as a person who learns programming and needs to move outside, so this laptop is good for me, but I think of some entertainment and games when connecting the laptop to the charger and my question: Is it suitable for a few games at some times of the day (and this is a secondary thing from the laptop and not its primary purpose)
I purchased the BestBuy model with the i9-13900H/RTX4060/16GB/1TB on sale for $1,449.99 and then had it priced adjusted to $1,299.99. When on sale, there is not a better overall laptop for the price that is available. I've already upgraded the memory to 32GB and popped in a secondary SSD and everything is flawless. I've had the laptop for a little over two months and absolutely love it, HP is my go-to for laptops. My only gripe is the silver keys with the white LED backlight. Otherwise, this is a superb machine that can handle anything and everything you throw at it. I would recommend people considering this laptop to buy it.
@@sichiweza9152 when the laptop is off, yes, you can charge it with USB-C; otherwise, you need to use the barrel plug.
friend, I also have the same one, how did you know which ram memory to buy and which storage memory did you eat????
@@ragnarok997 purchase any DDR5-5200 or 5600mhz and any Gen4 PCIE NVME drive. Samsung 980/990 Pro are good.
does it have a fingerprint scanner or face unlock?
@@richies_muse it has Windows Hello facial recognition, there is no fingerprint sensor. Honestly, it’s by far one of the best (if not the best) facial recognition experiences I’ve had on a Windows laptop. It always recognizes me on the first try in light/dark or close/far away. It’s seamless.
I appreciate how you're now weighing laptops on a scale to measure their weight. I've found that the weights listed on the laptop specification sheets provided by the manufacturers, can often be wildly inaccurate.
I just got this laptop. Its great so far, sound and camera really impressive. Thanks for your reviews, are THE best!
I bought this computer 2 weeks ago. Between firewall, antivirus, vpn and other basic background programs, memory available sat at about 8GB free for anything else. I installed 32gb 5600 memory (2 x 16) and everything seems to be running fine so far. Down to under 1/4 utilized. My only issue so far is that the BIOS on this laptop is extremely anemic. There does not appear to be an advanced tab, and no way to enable XMP. Beyond that, seems to be a great laptop so far. I also installed battery monitoring software to better understand how long the battery will last.
I bought one from Best Buy last week. It came in on Friday. I honestly didn't even know it was this good of a machine! Nice review!
how is it after 6 month?
My 8 yr old hp is still rocking like a beast in Ubuntu platform. But its hinge got broken and there are so many cracks on its plastic body. Yeah I considered it aged well with using it heavily like playing almost all NFS(2005 to 2012) games .Recently bought spectreX360 16in with i7 13700h for $1100 (that a crazy deal in Best-buy). Now the Question is does hp still have Hinge Problem(HP😅) recently(Manufacture POV )?? Do you think 13700h is a over kill to hp spectre laptop.
200W Power brick. It delivers more juice than the power supply of my desktop.
A Value laptop is the key here when it comes to the HP Envy 16 (2023) as it seems to check a lot of the boxes and it won’t cost an arm and a leg to purchase it. Is it a perfect laptop? It is not as it has some negatives but overall, it is a decent laptop with great sounding quad speakers from Bang and Olufsen. Great review as always Andrew!! 👏😁
Yes it is.
Thanks for the review Andrew! I don’t know why HP is not adding a full sized SD card slot on Envy 16 and Spectre 16. 😏
Agreed 👍
Timing of your review coming out and me pulling the trigger (due to today's amazingly low Best Buy price, $1049) is crazy. I'm seeing your review came out 6hrs ago, and I probably bought it about the same time online, and picked it up at 10(ET).
So my sale price was even a better steal than the price at the time of this review's recording.

Thanks, helpful review Andrew.
I decided to get one during prime day today due to this review. I liked the way you presented data instead of a more feeling approach. I did get the 2022 model though haha, it is for my mom so I think it will suffice.
Is there any program(third-party or hp programs) that controls undervolting/overvolting for both CPU and GPU, and control similar power related options similar to G-helper for this laptop?
And do the hp programs consume a lot of resources?
Love these reviews. I find them really relaxing actually.
Glad you like them!
@@andrewmarcdavid yes sir keep em coming!!
Nice PC. Camera and speakers are good. Display is good. Agree with you about the screen wobble but it is not too bad. Port selection is good. Would have been nice to see an iteration of this offerred with a full size numpad. With this selling at Best Buy this week for $1,099.99 this week it is well worth the money. Great review.
At $1099 it really is a great deal
Do you know if the HDMI is connected with the dGPU and can do 4k 120hz? Also, does the Nvidia Driver indicate if there are advanced optimus?
@@pedro4205 I would like to know this as well. I've actually upgraded my Nvidia drivers to 536.40. I haven't noticed any problems. GPU temp on idle fluctuates from 37c-41c

Hey Andrew im your loyal follower from Saudia arabia, firstly thanks for your great amusing illusteration also i am very confused and asking if i am working in a studio which is better for me asus zenbool pro 14 ux 6404 or this machine. Thanks in advance
You have made outstanding review.. very helping for deep thinker and technical analyst. even i have downloaded one and bought the same version with updated specs. thank you very very much for your efforts..
I bought this laptop last June 22nd. Mine died after just 5 months. The RTX 4060 GPU died! It has been at HP for warranty repair for the past 5 weeks and now they are saying at least 2 more weeks! They say they are waiting on a new motherboard.
How does the GPU work with a monitor? I've had issues with certain laptops/laptop GPU models dropping significantly in performance when using an external monitor as the main monitor or splitting VRAM between the laptop monitor and the external.
For people looking at this laptop, THERE IS NO USB-C CHARGING. USB-C charging only works if the laptop is off, if the laptop is on or in sleep mode the BIOS locks out USB-C charging. It's a recurring problem on HP laptops and not fixed on the 2023 model
impossible
How do you find it compared to XPS 15? I'm hesitating between the two, mostly because of the XPS keyboard with no dedicated page-up/page-down keys. Is it as well built as a XPS 15 ?
I'm loving it so far. My only gripe is lack of ethernet port. If you're considering it ABSOLUTELY spend the extra $400 for the OLED screen. Your eyeballs will thank you.
you are the most underrated reviewer hats off i love your reviws. can you suggest me best intel i7 14 inch laptop main prior battery and loud speakers

Great review. I see in the specs that you can use a MicroSDXC card up to 512 GB but that the system only can read 16GB. What does that mean? And does it make sense to buy 512GB for this laptop? thanks for your advice

Just got this one today for the $1099 deal at Best Buy. I am very impressed. Replacing my 2017 Envy x360 15.6" laptop with 12 GB RAM. Huge difference with the much better processor and graphics card. I will be pairing it with a 27" IPS monitor for when I have to remote into my work computer. Even on the 16" screen, remoting in looks way better than on the old x360. The deal price was a huge bonus.

I had the exact same problem with the laptop not turning on after disassembly. I though I shocked it too but it turned out that the battery was in a loop. After disconnecting and reconning battery it worked but it takes several minutes for it to turn on, 3-5. I think that might have been what happened to you because I thought it was dead then 5 minutes later it turned back on
Man...when I upgraded my ram to 32gb I thought i d broken the device because it wouldn't turn back on. Took it to best buy and they figured out it was just a new component issue with the device. I love the value I've gotten.
That looks like my Omen from 3 years ago, just in other colors with slightly different details, even charger is the same with the same wattage x)
Curious: we want to run this unit to a 24" monitor: if we close the laptop lid while using the external monitor, do we run into a heat problem the unit? Or, do we leave the laptop screen open to get air and such? Thx!
I know I'm pretty late to this, but boy what a great video, and a great laptop too! Internesting to note that you also had the issue whereby you take the back off the laptop, then without probably touching anything, something either gets static discharge, or as is becoming more and more common, the surface mount components haven't been mounted properly, they have a static charge that can't be dumped into circuit board, so when a human goes in...bang! Apple hardware is renowed for this, so is ASUS, HP and Lenovo. I'm sure ACER are just as bad, and well, pretty much any other manufactorer. Dell seem to be the only ones who have any degree of good PCB layout and design when it comes to ICB's...meaning that components don't tend to fry themselves as soon as the cover is removed.
Thinking of returning my Legion 5 15ARP8 for this. Since Nvidia limits 4060/70s to 100W, this wouldn't be a huge hit in performance, plus this is a much nicer chassis screen, and better battery lide. Only thing that concerns me is heat during gaming. I've heard different things, some say it's good others say it can get uncomfortably hot.
just got one, its the perfect computer
It may just be my device...but it sounds fairly silent for a device that can be used for gaming. Do you feel it runs loudly under normal working conditions? I don't.
Sir, would like to know if it's good for music production.
Does cubase Pro 12 works well with this....
Thank, very good video ❤
The RTX 4060 model doesn't seem to be available in the UK 😞
Nice review Andrew! The HP envy is actually decent for the price.
EDITED.
Unfortunately having a good buy on open box, returned because wifi issue and poor info at first, regarding source of problem. This and all the new laptops have new wifi. Will swap out soon at Spectrum. Could not connect, or just for a little while is due to old router-wifi at home. News to me; had not bought laptop for a long time. Changes in ports, etc. on all laptops are things to have to live with.
I got an openbox one with $819..Been amazed how perstiage condition it is. However, HP went very low with their power limit. When doing CPU+GPU load, the largest power on GPU was 70W
Even while charging?
@@gloomsdoom649 yep
Does it run AAA games well?
I can confirm the CPU has been throttled to 20 W power limit with 40 W speed boost. You can use Intel XTU to set the proper limits of 45W/115w, and your CPU will be about twice as fast. I also replaced the thermal paste with quality paste and removed the black sticker that partly blocks the fans. It's a good price for the specs, but it's a very poorly made laptop.
Do you damage your laptop if you press the hinges a bit further with the maximum you can open
Im confused between the following models which one to go for
Dell inspiron 14plus 7420
Hp pavilion aero 13
Hp envy 14
Asus vivobook s15
Hp pavilion 14plus
Dell inspiron 16 5620
Does anyone know of any active stylus that work with this thing?
This is funny I literally just bought this early this morning
How do you like it? Is it good for gaming? Work too? Would you recommend it?
Thanks!
Why does the link go to spectre x360? The envy does not seem to have two storage M.2 slots?
@andrewmarcdavid Hi! Andrew, can you recommend a laptop with integrated graphics, 32gb of ram and long battery life? It will be a plus if it doesn't get too hot.
I don't think it was user error... I opened the back of the one I bought and upgraded the RAM... On that Metal Shielding for the RAM those metal pins broke off easily and I think if it doesn't have contact on that shield to complete the circuit it won't boot... :-(
Btw if we used it for software dev or gaming dev or music production is it okay?
RAID not showing as an option in the BIOS? Been a while since I've seen a 2nd nvme slot and no RAID
I just purchased the hp15. Did I waste my money? I am worried about the display quality vs on the new one?
Picked one of these up at Best Buy. Mine seems slower than my quad core 11th gen laptop in a lot of cases, I'm guessing it's assigning UI processes to the super slow efficiency cores. Wish you could turn that off. I've uninstalled all of the bloatware, but it still locks up for a split second and lages intermittently. Super bummed as it's very attractive and the best screen I've ever seen on a laptop, bar none

Andrew, just got it for $1099 as its on sale for today only ($1200 with tax). Is that a good deal? I'm having FOMO on potentially getting a laptop with a 4080 but i dont think I want to spend an extra $1000 for it (I have a PS5 and series x for my gaming needs).
Its a great deal
Considering a comparably equipped configure-to-order model from HP costs well over $2,000, you did great.
Can you control cpu tdp?
I have the core i7 one is that still good?
I recently bought this same laptop and do a performance benchmark and it said it is running at 50% of what it should be at and it’s temps under load are only 55c which is criminally low. Do you know any fixes, I feel like the power of the laptop is restricted perhaps
Go into settings and change your power plan!
Have you tried any pen in case if is compatible with the touchscreen?
Do you mean something like the MEKO stylus pen? I have one that works perfectly with it.
hey, it revived! glad you made it work after the other one died after opening it up. can I ask what was the diagnosis of HP of the problem?
It looks like I shorted the unit when I took off the ram cover. I wasn't properly grounded. Lesson learned.
@@andrewmarcdavid interesting. It seems to me that cover serves no purpose as it blocks any potential air circulation cooling the ram. No? What is the benefit of the cover ?

Do you know if the HDMI 2.1 port connects directly to the dGPU (4060) and if it supports G-Sync or 10-bit color? Thanks in advance. I'm interested in hooking this laptop up to a LG C1 to play games which supports G-Sync via HDMI.
Also, i would like to know if it has advanced optimus or a regular mux switch.
@@pedro4205 probably neither. Most "creative" laptops don't, like the Dell XPS and I believe the Gigabyte Aero series too, both of which omit a MUX and Advanced Optimus

I missed the deal... Now it's 1500 for the i9, rtx 4060 on Amazon. Do you think that I should wait for August, for it to be on sale again?
it's now on sale for bestbuy at 1250
Yeah, I've seen it. You think there's possibility for it to go down even further, to like 1099$ or should I just get it for 1250$?
I own the HP 16 Envy with the 16 with the Intel 13700H CPU, and so far, the fans have NEVER come on - that's right, the fans have never turned on even once. However, I have not done any video editing or gaming on it. That probably is due to lower heat than the 13900H CPU you have. Also, the display is the best display I have ever used. I have the same display you tested. Keep in mind I have owned two Dell XPS laptops (the 15 and 17 inch, and this display is easily as good as those laptops). Also, I have ZERO screen wobble when I type on a desk. I think maybe your desk surface is unstable or not level. Nor is there ANY flex in my screen display. I actually wonder if I got a better version than your test laptop (I just purchased it on Black Friday.
Can you possibly tell me if the model you bought is compatible with any type of pen and/or Stylus? I’ve owned bought computers for 30 or 40 years. I’ve never had any major problems with any computer I’ve ever owned. Until I bought an HP Envy computer from Best Buy in November 2021. It worked great for the first six months. No complaints. The screen was beautiful. It was fast. The only slight negative was the soft keyboard. I started having issues with the screen flickering after 6 months and after 9 or 10 months the computer would randomly shut off. After 13 months, the Rizen 7, AMD processor failed completely. I was traveling at the time the computer started to randomly shut down, and I tried to troubleshoot it myself. My first guess it was a buggy windows 11 problem or a driver issue. By the time I got in to see a Hewlett-Packard service center it was 1 month past the warranty. Now my only option is to have the motherboard and processor replaced. Hewlett-Packard will only give a three month warranty on the new motherboard. The last one failed after 13 months so replacing it makes no sense. I paid $900 for the computer. The computer now is virtually worthless except for a salvaged hard drive, and AC adapter. If you have problems don’t count on Hewlett-Packard or Best Buy or AMD to stand behind their products and do the right thing. You are only a transaction to them. Nothing more. You’re rolling the dice with this computer.
You had problems with the screen less than 8 months in and didn't go back to where you purchased the device from? I'm sorry things didn't work out for you but you should have taken it back sooner. Hopefully I don't start having the same issues. As today I've only had my Envy 16 less than 2 months...but it's a great laptop (imo) for the price. If the reliability proves to be crap I'll come back in a year and say so.
