The man that made me a fan of NASCAR. Long live Jeff Gordon
Sadly, his retirement and all the needless points changes turned me away from the once great sport of NASCAR. I can only wonder how many championship seasons he would have without the Chase and how many Johnson would have had in old points, all season points total. Loved Gordon and Petty and did not like Johnson or Earnhardt, Jr.
@@bobclark1594 I'm a fairly new and young fan so I unfortunately never got to watch Gordon and Earnhardt dueling it out. I agree with you that all these changes to the championship format with the chase was really unnecessary. Having a season long championship is the fairest way to determine the champion. I really hope NASCAR can go back to what it used to be, but it doesn't look like it. I'm seriously considering not watching and switching to other motorsports cause of all the gimmicks that have been added.

@@ryanflores4414 nope...Danica was not talented, especially in NASCAR...do the math and see who (Jeff or Jimmy) would have won more titles using real point scheme...36 races...champion is who has MOST points for whole season. Hands down, Jeff.

Dale Earnhardt was 20 times better
Jeff Gordon's original DuPont-sponsored stock car paint jobs were really colorful, which is one of the reasons Jeff Gordon was one of my all-time favorite NASCAR drivers back in the 2000s. To this day, he still is. He had a fantastic NASCAR career!
Truly, he's one of the greats.

My dad used to be on the team that painted his shells. He used to get hospitality tickets here in fontana to watch the races. jeff was a cool ass guy when he would visit once and awhile

2001-12: Flame Warriors
2013-15: The Red Velvet
Jeff always had some great looking cars

From 95 - 99 Gordon won 47 races incredible, my childhood hero.
And add the 3 races won in 1994 is ¡50! Races won between 1994 and 1999

The most Crown Jewel wins with 17.
The most road course wins with 9.
Tied for most Restrictor Plate wins with 12.
The most Poles in the Modern Era with 81.
JG won 81 races from 1994 through 2007, an average of 6 wins per year. He won 4 titles in that time and contended for 3 more trophies as well (1996, 2004 & 2007).
He also finished in the top 3 in points nine times in his career.
Several others make the case to be the best, but Wonder Boy is The GOAT.

@@rcracer8872 if Gordon raced under the Winston cup format for his whole career like Sr did. He would also have 7 titles to his name. Gordon would of been a champion in 04, 07, and 14. Not really a fair take to Gordon when he would have tied Sr had he still raced under the same format that Sr did.

It’s not some switch they can flip on and off. That’s what makes you the best is by always staying consistent and consistently finishing well. That’s how you win races and championships, ya know like how Sr did...

I became a fan of nascar thanks to this man. I miss him behind the wheel.
I don't care what anyone says, Jeff is the greatest of all time. He won 93 races in the two most competitive eras of NASCAR, and would have won at least 6 championships if the format actually allowed the best driver to win. No disrespect to Dale Earnhardt or Richard Petty.

As a Gordon fan, it’s sad when you hear them talking in 2001 how he already won 4 championships at 30 year old, and he never got another 😢
At that time, it seemed like he’d rewrite the record books on championships.

@@JoseAntonio-pb7nd Yea they changed the points system in 2004. Under the old points system, Gordon would have won the championship in 2004, 2007, and 2014. The 2007 championship in particular is probably the biggest robbery in NASCAR history.
Thats because you don't win Championships any more, you win chases

24 a Legend. This was my Childhood right here! I stopped watching after he retired.
I respect this guy with a passion due to fact he put up a fight with out giving up to his team and his teammates
I'm proud to say I watched Gordo my whole life, and saw 90% of these. He was my favourite driver.
He truly shined at every type of track. One of the greats of all time, fan for life
Loved Jeff. A lot of time spent at tracks watching him win.
I grew up spending many Sunday afternoons, sitting in the floor of our living room when I was young, from age 10 to 14, then many Sundays in my room yelling at the TV throughout my teenage years, rooting for jeff , single handedly the reason I ever became interested in cars and racing. A love I still have today. Regardless how you feel about jeff, it's no doubt he is an absolute legend, and one of the best to ever do it.

The reason he was my favorite NASCAR driver.
Watching him win at Martinsville in 2015 actually made me cry a little. Never cried in my life at a sporting event. I was so excited the driver i've been watching and pulling for my whole life was going to have a chance to go out as a champion.
GOAT. That Martinsville win feeling is a feeling I never wanted to end. It would have only been topped if he won the Championship.
That was such a memorable day!

@@codyharris3928 Once the novelty wore off, it was boring to watch. Indy isn't a great venue for stock car racing.
Not to mention that tire debacle in 2008 drove away all the fans.
In '96 I was given a shirt to wear at my first ever job, as a pot washer, it was red and had du pont on it, saw race highlights on tv, became a Jeff fan ever since (from England)
That 93rd win is as clear in my mind as the night it happened. Very few athletes at that level get to have their "one last moment in the sun". Gordon got his at Martinsville.

My first favorite driver as a kid. I had a cereal bowl with him and Earnhardt on it. Love him or hate him you have to respect him and all he did and still does for the sport!

I still can’t believe I’m 36 years old, grew up watching this guys and cheering for him. I was 7-8 years old and had no clue what nascar was and then the race was on at my grandparents house and this guy in a rainbow car won and from that day forward I was a NASCAR fan and die hard Gordon fan. NASCAR wasn’t the same after the 2005-2007 but I still watched bc of Gordon. While the sport now is board line pathetic I at least get to say I got to cheer for one of the great and watch him battle the great Dale Earnhardt. I loved watching Gordon and Earnhardt race each other, the respect and drive that made each drive better. It saddens me that all great things come to a end.
Growing up, I always wanted to go to a NASCAR race because I loved the cars and the drivers. I loved Jeff Gordon’s Impala from 08’ and that color and the color scheme was amazing and up to this day I still haven’t gone to a race but watching his achievements on RUclips was as close to watching the race in the speedway

Watched the '93 Daytona 500 at the NCO Club at Bitburg Germany! Have been a Jeff Gordon fan ever since!
My grandfather and I were huge Gordon fans growing up and to this day, he's my all time favorite driver!!!!! He made me really get into the sport more and his iconic paint scheme was the best and pure 90s amazingness!!!!!

I'm the same age as Jeff, I started off rooting for him in the 90s just because my brother liked Earnhardt and everyone hated Gordon lol. I get nostalgic for this era of racing.
As “dominant” as the 48 team was from 06-10 still wasn’t as impressive as Gordon’s team from 95-98.
Yea it was almost surprising when Gordon didn't win back then.
I vividly remember as a kid watching in 1998, he finished the Bristol night race in 5th and the next day the headlines were “what’s wrong with the 24 team?!” 😂 now THAT is dominance!

I was lucky enough to see Jeff Gordon win a couple of these highlights in person, among other races I saw him win in person. But, I wish I could have seen him win his final career race at Martinsville. Very emotional, more than the 1st victory! Nascar has really changed, my wife and I would travel to 2, sometimes 3 races a year. We just don't anymore. It used to be it was very hard to get a ticket, not so much anymore. Different times. Miss you, Jeff!

Jeff Gordon is the reason I watched NASCAR as a kid and loved and when he retired I just didn’t enjoy it as much. Now a days I watch more F1 than anything but Jeff Gordon will always be my all time favorite race car driver
Damn, I had forgotten. That was a lot of great memories right there. I remember all of them & I was in person at the race for 6 of them. My God, what could’ve been. When Ray left in 99. Then when Jeff hurt his back in 04. It was just never the same after that.
