I agree with you that all these changes to the championship format with the chase was really unnecessary. Having a season long championship is the fairest way to determine the champion. I really hope NASCAR can go back to what it used to be, but it doesn't look like it. I'm seriously considering not watching and switching to other motorsports cause of all the gimmicks that have been added.

JG won 81 races from 1994 through 2007, an average of 6 wins per year. He won 4 titles in that time and contended for 3 more trophies as well (1996, 2004 & 2007). He also finished in the top 3 in points nine times in his career. Several others make the case to be the best, but Wonder Boy is The GOAT.

@@JoseAntonio-pb7nd Yea they changed the points system in 2004. Under the old points system, Gordon would have won the championship in 2004, 2007, and 2014. The 2007 championship in particular is probably the biggest robbery in NASCAR history.
Watching him win at Martinsville in 2015 actually made me cry a little. Never cried in my life at a sporting event. I was so excited the driver i've been watching and pulling for my whole life was going to have a chance to go out as a champion.
I grew up spending many Sunday afternoons, sitting in the floor of our living room when I was young, from age 10 to 14, then many Sundays in my room yelling at the TV throughout my teenage years, rooting for jeff , single handedly the reason I ever became interested in cars and racing. A love I still have today. Regardless how you feel about jeff, it's no doubt he is an absolute legend, and one of the best to ever do it.
I don't care what anyone says, Jeff is the greatest of all time. He won 93 races in the two most competitive eras of NASCAR, and would have won at least 6 championships if the format actually allowed the best driver to win. No disrespect to Dale Earnhardt or Richard Petty.
It was an absolute amazing experience being a fan, I was lucky enough to get stuff from him personally in the mail and also get to talk to him at New Hampshire Speedway while he was in his car, best experience of my childhood, hands down. If I had a father figure this would be the guy.
Growing up, I always wanted to go to a NASCAR race because I loved the cars and the drivers. I loved Jeff Gordon’s Impala from 08’ and that color and the color scheme was amazing and up to this day I still haven’t gone to a race but watching his achievements on RUclips was as close to watching the race in the speedway
My grandfather and I were huge Gordon fans growing up and to this day, he's my all time favorite driver!!!!! He made me really get into the sport more and his iconic paint scheme was the best and pure 90s amazingness!!!!!

I still can’t believe I’m 36 years old, grew up watching this guys and cheering for him. I was 7-8 years old and had no clue what nascar was and then the race was on at my grandparents house and this guy in a rainbow car won and from that day forward I was a NASCAR fan and die hard Gordon fan. NASCAR wasn’t the same after the 2005-2007 but I still watched bc of Gordon. While the sport now is board line pathetic I at least get to say I got to cheer for one of the great and watch him battle the great Dale Earnhardt. I loved watching Gordon and Earnhardt race each other, the respect and drive that made each drive better. It saddens me that all great things come to a end.

I know a lot of the old heads didn't like Gordon, like my dad, in the late 90s and early 00's but he is the silent reason I enjoyed watching racing at a young age. Used to be glued to the TV to watch him race
