Hello Cole and Brian. I have seen ya'll using a claw hammer several time when a ball pein hammer would really fit the application much better. I know sometimes what you need is never close by so I am sending a selection of hammers for your tool box as a token of my appreciation for all of the enjoyment I get watching your channel. These hammers have wood handles. For better grip, get your grinder and buzz about 4 rings into the handle on the bottom 1/4 of the hammer handle. Have a safe harvest and CONGRATULATIONS on the new baby.
Claw hammer metal will chip and pieces may fly into your eyes.😢
Brain would like to thank grog for inventing the hammer. Absolutely hilarious!
Grog Sonne was one of the very first John Deere customers, back when the tires were just round stones.
My thoughts exactly. Hilarious! .
You should create a list of all the various jobs you do: mechanic, welder, landscaper, concrete worker, veterinarian, husband, father, brother, organizer, fencer, trucker, (and so many more I can’t even think of). Add a job the Sonne’s do to run their farm that I missed….
My grandfather(a farmer ) always said a farmer had to be a Jack of all trades and a Master of none!
Thanks and GOD BLESS
Thanks Cole, no doubt your best video ever! So much here! “Excuse me”! Hahahaha.your tape under the header once best one yet! Always enjoy watching you guys “wrenching”, you made a good JD tutorial! Thanks again. Good to see the safety glasses!
We love watching your shows over and over. It reminds us of our childhoods growing up on farms in Indiana, and lifts our spirits to see your wonderful father/son relationship! Thanks for the hard work you do to entertain us with your videos!!!!! We would like to see more of Tiffany...and.....can't wait to hear that there will be a little Sonne coming!!!
Boy isn't that a thing. So nice to see Jeff, great since of humor. Cole ,Brian, check of a job calling in back up. You all have a great week!!!
Love the channel. We watch faithfully and enjoy the way you shoot and edit. Enjoyable people and content. We lived in South Dakota for a few years after college, and we miss the open skies!
Open skies? Which day was that?
68 year old retired farmer. Still do a little haying for horses yet, miss cutting, and working ground. Started out on D John Deere, 720, 730, 4020, 4430, 8640, enjoy your videos, ( and corgie).
A lot of ppl don't think of the hard work it takes to have a money making farm bc you can't always take it to town to get it fix or call a guy to come to you holy cow them bills get deep quick. Love y'all God bless & thank y'all for your time
It's really funny. I was sitting here watching you beating that shaft and thinking why don't you get out the skid loader and push it and then here came the skid loader. I really enjoy watching your videos. You guys get a lot of work done.
I was thinking oh no not the skiddo, that shaft will bend or bow , then their up the creek with out a cutting torch
A two day deal but you saved yourself probably $1000 worth of John Deere labor😂😂 or more !! thanks man
Back in the 50’s a penny would get 10 candies..Brian and Cole we appreciate your hard work and dedication to farming. It’s not a tutorial video today but for other farmers having a maintenance problem yours might help.
Cole and Dad Brian thank you for sharing everything.God bless you all.
Ellie has the sweetest eyes.
My son was fixing a part that looked like that clutch piece, but smaller. I had went to the garage to drop off the money I owed him, for fixing my huskavarnen lawn mower, I've had about 17 years, and he had me help hold the shaft piece after he put it in a vice, so he could beat out a piece or ring holding the bearings in. Good thing he had dirty greasy clothes, I still had a client to take care of. 😂 i wiped off most of the grease on his britches. Lolol
Outstanding video, great work. On a farm, there's always something to do, and this video, like so many others you've done, reflects that. I occasionally run into people that think farming is easy. That usually means they've never done it. Or, they raised a garden for a couple years and had a cat as a pet once. If they would give your videos a try, perhaps that would change their minds. Thanks again for keeping it real!
This job would have been easier with Thor's hammer, but this many Sonne's was just as good :) Nice to see Uncle Jeff again and Jake! Thank you for the video, I must have watched it 7 or 8 times!
Much respect for tackling a project like that.
Congrats on the newest Sonne!
That was brutal. I love your work ethic and can do attitude. You guys are amazing!
You farmers have to be so knowledgeable to be able to fix anything and everything you own. Taking it apart and then remembering how it goes back together is amazing. There isn't anything I don't think you both can't do. Hoping all goes well from now on.
I take pictures with my phone along the process to have a reference
Wow that was a tough job! My hands hurt after the first 5 blows with the hammer, can’t imagine how exhausting that was! Thank god you could do this yourselves, can’t imagine the cost if you had to have it brought in. I watch you two do the repairs and maintenance on these giant machines and it just amazes me how they work and how they were even invented. Love your videos. ❤❤
I'm constantly amazed at how well farmers know their very complex modern machinery. It was weird watching how seemingly easy the first shaft came out. When you guys put it back in I thought to myself, I haven't seen tolerances this tight on an American made machine ever before. You guys did a fantastic job which I know wasn't remotely easy. Love the dogs and the moo cows. Those cows are really healthy looking and look great. Thanks for sharing this fellas. Hope you have a great harvest and that commodity prices start a nice run up for y'all. Cheers from way west of Chicago in farm (quickly becoming) residential country.
It amazes me that those coastal cubical buffoons think they are smarter than the "flyover states" hay-seeds. I never ceases to amaze me at how wide Coles and his Dad's breadth of knowledge is. Smart fellers !!! And they get more done before lunch than the woke whiners do in a month.
Great job, Sonne Farms. Thank you for all you do.
It was nice to see you had the "big guns" helping you out. Nice to see your uncle Jeff again.
The epitome of family farming! Always my favorite❤❤
Awesome video Cole. It's kool to see one of your brothers show up as well as uncle Jeff. 🚜🚜🚜
So I noticed, when you were working on the head, Cole is wearing gloves and Brian is. Funny thing is is when dad and I was working on equipment it seems to be the same way. Must go hand and hand with that old man strength. Lol 😂 Good work!
The folding chair is 1 tough Sonne gun.
Way to get ahead of the maintenance and repairs ahead of harvest time. I hope it all goes well for you this season. I always enjoyed Harvest Time on my uncle's Farm in Western Minnesota. They probably didn't enjoy having visitors underfoot but as a kid I sure enjoyed Harvest Time with all the machinery and activities going on on the farm. God bless Sonnes!
Hi Cole and Brian and Jeff ☮️💟💟Thank you Sunny farm 🌈🌞🐂🐂🐂🚜🚜🚛🚛 and 🌈🌟 Storla Station ⛽ Happy Labor Day everybody ✨🧢👕✨🐶🐕🐕💐🌹🌹✨🇺🇸🌭🌭🍔🍔🧁🧁🍨🍨🎂🍰🍰🥛🥛🦉🦅🪶💌👍💞💞💞💞💞
little table for the tools - soooo much more efficient
Hi to all three of you guys from Indiana and happy labor day to all of your family and friends
When the metal folding chair comes out it’s project/repair time! Every shop needs at least one.
Thanks!
My mum always said to me, " get a sit down job " I did and she was very proud of me 😊 Best wishes from England UK 🇬🇧
such hard work, but hope it last for years.
Yep Brian, I remember 19 cent gas too.
I had to laugh, you know your cows are happy when they don’t want to leave!
Watching Brian looking at it all turning and saying to himself yes no clanging or banging.
Oh my goodness! That was a tough job way to go you too. I am looking forward to the wet corn season with no problems. God bless you both and your families. Peace to you both.
Hey! Just wanted to say "Hey".
Boost this boy up to 300k subscribers, folks!
You guys are quite the mechanics, you also saved yourself a lot of money doing it by yourselves ... Truly Blessed putting your knowledge together with helping hand's... Nice to see the cows not having that fly issue... they are much tamer to walk through...
Glad you worked through your frustration... Tireder...😊
When you have the parts and the knowledge all it costs is time and maybe a little skin and lots of curse words.
I’m almost 70, and I remember “Gas War” signs at stations when I was a kid, and 23 cent gas. I remember cheaper prices than that during Gas Wars
I remember wish they would start another one 😊
Yes. It would be nice. I remember “Gas Wars” sign being drawn by marker on a piece of corrugated cardboard and propped up on a pump. In case some don’t understand, some stations would lower prices more than the going rate to attract customers. That was the war. Waring gasoline prices between gas stations.
Yep I remember putting in $2 worth and cursing on a Friday, Saturday night 😎😎
@@Budd56
Cursing while cruising????
Yea a big chuckle here on the Grog Comment too.....u guys are witty and Silly and Funny....and all 3 while working!!!! Ha!!!!!
I was root’n for y’all during slappy time, on a beach in Exuma on vacation with an ice cold girly drink my wife made me ☀️ 🏝️
Thanks for another great video Cole and Brian and all the helpers.
It was interesting for sure.
Wow and wow. I agree with you, yes that was a tough repair on replacing those clutches. That first shaft was a tough one with all the extra bodies you had gathered up to help pound that shaft in. I like how you used the skid steer to push the second one in. Good thinking on that one. Worked good I believe.
You saved a lot of labor costs on doing those repairs yourself. My compliments to you both for tackling that job yourself.
Thanks for everything. You both take care and be safe.
The Iowa farm boy. Steve.
It nice you and dad working on that high level Mexican John Deere combine don't forget your guys Sombrero hats 😅😅😅😅😅😅. Great video's keep up good work thanks again
Us farmers wear many hats to keep all our machines running and costs down. You guys did both on that score, although like me you'd probably rather be fishing or hunting or just sittin on the porch with a cold drink, non alcoholic one!
Thank you Sonne farms!!
I love how you’re tackling every part of the farming process, from restoring old equipment to setting up a new corn head. Your attention to detail is impressive!
I like where I'm at right now... I have said this with full heart meaning. I think it's a farmer thing.
This is life on a farm in a nutshell. Fixing/maintaining equipment can be such a pain. Good luck with your corn harvest!!
I knew it'd start going together when MegaJeff got there. Megaforktruck is even better.
Getting the shaft from JD and then giving it back after getting hammered. Day in the life of a farmer.
That was a lot more fun watching than is was for you doing it 😁😁👍👍✌️
Great job.
Happy Labor day to you all.
See Cole the reason your cows were in the pasture is because you all are great animal stewards and they don’t want to leave they have everything they want and need. By the way congrats to you and Tiff.
You work so good with your Dad, Coke & never complaining...
Hello Uncle Jeff & Jake...
GBY ALL 🙏❤️💙💖💙🐕🐕...💙💙🤗✝️
Doing your own mechanic work saves tons of money.Keeps more in your pockets.
It's tough, but think of the money that hard work saved.
Always like to say that you can do most things yourself if you’re willing to do it 3-4 times to get it right.
Great perseverance!
You so lucky to have such a good boss take you for ice cream app but lunchtime boy I never had a boss like that😊
Way to persevere and get the job done!
Awesome Video and Much Love as Always 🌞 Farms!!!
Brutal is an understatement. Never cease to be amazed at your knowledge, understanding, work ethic, patience, creativity, partnership, and friendship.
Was wondering how much to replace all of the equipment?
I’m grateful every day to have stumbled onto your channel.
We are grateful you stumbled onto the channel as well. Thanks for watching and commenting.
@@tamisonne2519 I hope that Brain is not upset with me , for getting on him , for fussing at Cole. They have something very special, a true gift. And when Brain is old , like me, and Cole is having to wipe his nose, he’ll be glad he treated him nicer.
If you've got a hot water washer wash the shaft, before you remove it. On a chopper head like that they get real sticky and gummy. We put a little never sees grease on it before putting it back in.
WOW that was craaaaazy .....the crappy side of farming??? . But you two worked thru it ... God bless..❤️🙏🇺🇲
Need to use a palm sander with bout 1200 paper and polish the shaft up first. At least that what she said!! Stay safe and harvest in soon!!!!
I am Brian’s age. I remember taking a family car trip from OH to SC in the mid 1970s and my dad was delighted to find gas for $0.35 per gallon along the highway somewhere in Tennessee. I think it was $0.37 at home.
Congratulations Cole, looks like your boys are swimmers. Good job and hope for the best for you and wife. Guess who is going to be a grandfather, again?
Hey Cole, tell Sonny that big black bug is a stag beetle.
Always something interesting at the Sonne farm you two seem to work good together. Off camra should be some interesting moments ha ha. Stay safe
G’job fellas, nothing like a frosty to make the job better😎that is a crappy job, but y’all got er done. Keep em comin and take care 🇺🇸
Well I got all of a fluster seeing how many men it took to handle 1 shaft! I bet you wished you’d thought of the bobcat the first time round! Work smarter not harder as they say xx
9/2/24 - In 1956 I remember gas at .18 cents a gal. ! Chas.,SC
I remember 17 cent a gallon gas, and could get a CB fries and a drink at McDs for 25Cents and still catch the bus home from School for a nickel! but I am older than Paw
If there is a next time...might I recommend an Air Hammer/ Chisel with a custom socket tip welded to it.
Also a small light sand of the rod with some emery cloth or sand paper to remove any oxidation or corrosion.
Hope that helps
I was just about ready to start yelling through the video push it with ski steer or folk lift. Then you smart guy did it. Congrats!!
Wow! That was a workout! good job though, got everybody to help.
❤ from Norway
You guys should paint your exposed spray foam. It will stop the sun from degrading it and it will brighten up the shop for projects. Just my two cents. Thanks for the videos. My wife's grandma lives in Yankton, so not terribly far from you guys.
I’m sure glad that you can figure these different parts out on this machine. I know I couldn’t do it. You two work good together. I use to pay 15 cents for gas and a hamburger at 15 too. Times have changed.
That looked like a brutal few days. Surprised no curse words made it in during that process 😅. Best of luck in harvest this year!
Hello from SC!
Grog is to often forgotten. lol
Good job to the whole crew
Take a piece of 1/4 round stock cut a 1-inch slot in it and place a nice piece of sandpaper in it. It will clean that paint out nicely.
According to another commenter it's actually the shaft that needs the cleaning
as it jams up with dirt and oil plus the microscopic rust on it when it gets into the new clutch's housing.....
Wire wheel the entire shaft
Then clean the shaft which is exposed just before it goes into a following clutch
clean with degreaser....
then lube.....
@@JohnSmith-pl2bk John I was not diagnosing the problem merely pointing out how to clean up any inside round points. It works great. no offense.
@@lelandbottomley8962
None taken just relaying the opinions of others..one suggested a flap wheel also does the job
Back in late "70s" and early "80s" Deere made a paint remover we used when putting machinery together in an aerosol can.
That was a major repair. Hadn’t seen it done before. Hope you had a great Labor Day weekend.
Next time run a flap disc down all side of the shaft before you install it.. Will go in like it comes out.. Been down that road a few times.. Good times!
that bar pulled right out? crazy physics at work
Tough job getting that first shaft in. But now it's done and should last a long time.
Cole, I was yelling’! I swear I was yelling. Ya could’ve heard me all the way from Florida. “Use the Bobcat to push it!”
Teamwork.wins.. Great video.
As the saying goes here in Denmark: Big problem = bigger hammer. 🙂 That shaft sure didn't want to co-operate. Been there, done that, although it was with a pin on a crane, that had no inclination of coming out. Felt like we were pounding that silly lump of steel for days. Take care.
Looks like the header was fixed and you have 4 fingers and 2 thumbs. A successful day.
Good job guys.
Just about the time I was wishing you had a T-post hammer to whack that shaft, lo-&-behold, here it comes!
Man i thought of the skid steer right away or use a old ram to press it in using the skid steer to be what you press into. Easy for me to say sitting watching in the land of people wearing cheese hats. Good job to have done.
GOOD JOB!
Big brother and Uncle Jeff come over to save the day !!! Just like Under Dog 😅😅😅
Glad you heard me scream and get the skid steer and push it in.😂😂
We tried on the first shaft, would not budge. Worked great on the second one
