This time, we're covering the M8A1.
A new addition to the Call of Duty arsenal, this weapon is unusual in that it fires a four-round burst by default - and is unlocked at level 49.
The M8A1 is a fictional derivative of the German XM8 rifle design, first seen in 2002.
The rifle was produced by Heckler and Koch at the behest of the US Army, seeking a potential future replacement for the AR-15 platform currently in service.
The XM8 designation was assigned in the wake of the Objective Individual Combat Weapon (OICW) contract, a project which sought a futuristic all-in-one infantry rifle.
The project fell through, but the XM8 design was brought about as a result - a modular derivative of the German G36 rifle design, making extensive use of modern composite materials.
Ultimately, the XM8 project was discontinued in 2005 - the performance gains over the existing platforms in service not deemed worth the investment cost for replacement.
Presumably, in Black Ops 2 the project resurfaced: the M8A1 designation indicating a derivative weapon that has entered into service.
In-game, damage is moderate: you do have the ability to kill a close-range enemy with just 3 shots, but this is only within a very short distance.
In most cases, you can expect to kill in four or five shots: and it's worth noting that the M8A1 has no bonus headshot multiplier, so it's best to aim for centre mass.
Penetration ability is on-par with most other assault rifles.
The M8A1's rate of fire is incredibly high within its four-round burst: 1250 rounds per minute. As such you are able to down a mid-ranged target very quickly indeed with a well-placed shot.
There is a mandatory delay between bursts, however - but this is relatively short: your sustainable rate of fire is a still-respectable 789 rounds per minute.
Equipping select fire will turn the M8A1 into a fully-automatic weapon, but this comes at a cost: your rate of fire will be reduced to 940 rounds per minute, and recoil will be significantly increased - but you do retain the 3-shot potential.
Hipfire spread is average, and combined with the rapid burst output can prove quite effective: as you should need only 3 rounds to connect to kill within hipfire ranges, a couple of bursts will quickly and reliably do the job should needs be.
Recoil is low, and so while you'll need at least two bursts to kill at range, it is quite possible to repeatedly drill a distant target with multiple rounds from the same burst.
The M8 isn't the most effective ranged weapon, but it can certainly perform at such ranges when asked.
Aim time is standard for its class, at 250 milliseconds - and other handling traits are as expected, including your mobility - like its peers, you'll move at 95 percent of the base speed.
Magazine capacity is fairly average, with the bonus two rounds factored in for the four-round burst.
Because of the relatively rapid consumption, reloads can be frequent - you'll only get 8 bursts per mag - but resupplies are painless, taking 2.33 seconds to perform.
The M8A1 is a dependable choice, capable of dominating mid-range engagements with an ability to place successive accurate bursts.
Compared to a three-round burst weapon like the SWAT-556, the extra round fired will guarantee more consistent performance: and the faster rate of fire will help land more shots on a moving target.
Paired with low recoil, the M8A1 is perhaps the easiest burst-fire weapon to handle, with more forgiving hipfire than most as well.
However, at longer ranges the weapon starts to lose its edge, with higher damage assault rifles, LMGs and sniper rifles taking the upper hand in terms of time to kill.
At ranges where you might need at least two bursts, a sniper could snuff your streak in just a single shot.
Paired with a short but otherwise mandatory burst delay, it might be wise to stick to mid-ranged engagements when tackling strong ranged opposition.
Still, the M8 remains usable at most ranges, and can be dominant in a relatively wide mid-range band, and as such it is definitely worth considering.
So, if you're desperately seeking a reliable companion...
...you might have found your soul M8.

A suppressor and hybrid sight on this gun is extremely good for hardcore modes. The medium range of the M8A1 complements the hybrid sights usability.
I'd drop flak jacket for scavenger. If i'm staying behind enemy lines I'd rather keep my weapon than pick something not silenced off a body

Actually the XM8 found a home with the Malaysian Navy
I know this is subjective, but when trying to get Gold for this weapon, I wound up using a Red Dot Sight for easier headshots and struggled getting the double kills and bloodthirsties with this until I unlocked Select Fire. I feel like the M8 is better when fired fully automatic, but it's pretty solid otherwise without it.

Here I am, looking at all these people's comments talking about their M8A1 classes. And they're all generally the same. "Reflex Sight + Stock" or "Reflex Sight + Quickdraw Handle", etc. How about something new, that actually works?

Attachment: *Attachment of your choice; choose over Lethal/Tactical
Wildcard: Primary Gunfighter
Perk Tier 1: Flak Jacket
Perk Tier 2: Toughness
Perk Tier 3: Dexterity
Lethal: *Choose over sidearm attachment
Tactical: *Choose over sidearm attachment
It sounds weird, doesn't it? An ACOG Sight on the M8A1? With a Laser Sight? Kosetsa, what are you thinking? Said a guy in the lobby. Believe it or not, this class actually works really well. Let's look over it. The ACOG Sight is surprisingly effective with this weapon. My preferred reticule was Ranger Drop. The recoil settles after before you can fire again with a burst, so long-range combat is definitely an option. And it doesn't hinder you in CQC, either. But that's where the next two attachments come into play. The Laser Sight tightens up that hipfire spread of yours, specifically for CQC. Finally, Select Fire will permit full-auto with the M8A1, also for CQC purposes. This combination of attachments on this weapon takes discipline, unless you're good on actually utilizing the ACOG Sight and Select Fire for the right environments. The sidearm of your choice can also aid you in CQC, or when you run out of bullets during an engagement. Mine was the Tac-45 with the Long Barrel.
Flak Jacket was my choice here, and it is a very straightforward Perk selection for an aggressive style of play - or a defensive one. It's your preference, though. The Tier 1 of Perks don't impact this class greatly. Next up is Toughness, which is also very straightforward and equally useful, if not more. Staying on target is very important, especially with a burst-fire rifle with an ACOG Sight. It is less critical in CQC, as Select Fire and the Laser Sight can take over that. You can also swap out Toughness for Scavenger if you're confident in your accuracy. Scavenger will make sure you never run dry, and that is one of this set-up's weaknesses: no resupplies. As for the final Perk, Dexterity is again for the aggressive play, speeding up your aim time after sprinting. Getting the first shot on your opponent usually ends in your favor, unless you have poor accuracy or you're facing a quickscoper/shotgunner.
Finally, if you don't want an attachment on your sidearm, you can choose a Lethal or Tactical equipment instead. I rarely use equipment, so I chose the attachment option.
And that's it. Try this class out, and see if you like it.

I use suppressor and fast mags.... That's different to reflex and stock/quickdraw and it works too
I use the ACOG and fast mag if that helps. I use the M8A1 like the SWAT-556 and use it at long range. And I like the fast reload for the M8A1.

Why not do a perk guide for COD: Ghosts?
You see, there are A LOT of perks on the game, and many returning or new ones, that people may not be 100% sure of what they're all about.
Like your attachment guide, you could alternate between a weapon and a perk guide, and if 35 perks just aren't enough to fill up the space between all weapons, maybe do an attachment one

Works perfectly fine for me as a sort of 'does everything alright at once' class. EMP nades are the bane of everyone's existence because barely anyone runs Hard Wired outside of a class specifically for anti- EMP Systems (although you could sacrifice one for SMAW/FHJ if you /really/ wanted to, the ability to shoot down (C)UAVs is much more beneficial to the team in my opinion) and are basically free points when thrown into gunfights you're not entering due to the huge splash range, the reflex/ACOG combination keeps things relevant at mid and long ranges, and you never run out of ammo or grenades to throw due to Scavenger. Engineer goes well with equipment destruction (Destroying deployed Sentries and Guardians and immobilising AGRs instantly is priceless)
The M8 was my first prestige unlock and and I don't regret it at all

I really recommend a red dot on this gun. Although the iron sights are okay, your shots will be way more precise with a red dot. Plus, do not play it with suppressor due to the range penalty. If you are a freakin' "strafer" like me, put stock on it. Unfortunately, I had some nuclear fails with this gun, but it wasn't the gun's fault ;)
It was so satisfying when the video buffered and Ahoy was aiming down sights, because the buffering loading swirlly circle was the exact same size as the rear aperature on the M8A1... For once, I was glad I lived in an obsolete corner of the UK where some people still have Dial up modems
I'd be sooo happy if you did hardcore mode weapons guides.... Hardcore may seem WAY harder, but once you're used to it, you will not wanna play core...
Hardcore mode isn't hard or challenging, you simply die in 1 to 2 shots which makes some guns incredibly overpowered and others become basically worthless, the guns aren't weren't balanced for hardcore mode.
Realistic? a game is not Realistic dude just saying You still respawn at the end of an Search and Destroy round and a Handgun killing you in 1 shot Realistic? NO
scarheavyfox Not like higher difficulties in CoD change anything. You take more damage which means you spend more time lying in the dirt, no skill required, just patience.
You kill faster, but you forget you GET killed faster. Everything kills you faster. You have to avoid camping or a grenade from afar will kill you from 15m away.

I love all of the guides, but I have to say that this particular loadout has been the most successful for me. In the past ten games my kd haven't dropped below 4.0. Thank you for this one.
I'm not sure if the G3 was ever in service, but I can tell you that pretty much any gun that was in service in the american military did receive an M designation. Even larger weapons such as artillery/flak cannons and the minigun.

Pros use red dot, stock and quickdraw. Stock may seem stupid to some, but a good player will strafe upon immediate enemy contact, usually jumping (scuff or not) at the same time. Trying to shoot someone who is jumping sideways so fast is difficult.

On the range graph, far left is close range, and far right is long range. On the far left, the bar is green because it has the best damage at that range. In the middle, it's yellow because it starts to drop it's damage over range. When it's at the far right and red, it's at the worst amount of damage it can do because the gun is firing at long range.
Put select fire with this and it turns to the famous gun in mw3.

According to the us nomenclature X means that it is on pre-production giving the fact that there is no X it means the weapon exited that phase and went full production also it has an A1 which means Alteration 1 so it was so succesful that they creadted an alternative variant.

Never liked select fire on any weapon. Always makes them overall worse. Tbh the only time I really used it was with swat-556 because of how stupidly high the firerate was.

@@ThundrStrik Not speaking from experience, from a vid I saw, couldnt really play it as I was 6 at the time.
Usually I can't even use an assault rifle without the Stock attachment but the M8 seems to be more accurate without it. I get a lot more 1- or 2-burst kills without the Stock. Just Quickdraw is enough to make this gun into a beast.

The Chicom CQB SMG is unusual in that it's burst fire unless you put select fire on it which makes it full auto, as with all the other burst fire weapons in-game.

Epic closing pun! Also the class is one of the best so far. You can also swap Ghost out for Lightweight and Silencer out for Stock, and you have a very mobile "tank" class.

That's the thing. You can see the power of the underrated guns if people won't be abusing the overused and overpowered guns like the MSMC, Remington, and PDW. I like underrated guns because if I can do well with them, I can tell I'm a good player.
shotgun's are weird because TECHNICALLY the KSG is just by far the superior shotgun out of all of then. no question about that. it's just the hardest one to use. i picked it because i'm pretty good at it, and it's just downright fun to use :D
The only thing that is more realistic about BF is the fact that it has some level of ballistics modeling. Other than that, it's just as much as an arcade shooter as cod, just on a larger scale with vehicles.

It goes both ways you know. It's why so many are responding. People are just saying not only is this a game set in the future( by over 10 years at 2013) but it is also fiction. Too much realism in a game doesn't make it fun.
