This time, we're covering the AN-94.
We round out this series with this automatic assault rifle' first sighting in the main Call of Duty series - where it's unlocked at the final level, 55.
The AN-94, or 'Avtomat Nikonova, 1994' is a Russian weapon design intended as a potential replacement for the AK-74 as a part of Project Abakan.
The weapon takes its name from its chief designer, Gennadiy Nikonov - and boasts a unique delayed recoil action that is able to fire two shots before the recoil of the first is felt.
This increases the probability of multiple target hits, and with the initial two-round burst fired at 1800 rounds per minute, such a flurry of fire has proven very effective when tackling enemies wearing modern body armour.
The rifle fires the same Russian intermediate cartridge as the AK-74, the high velocity 5.45 by 39 millimetre round.
While the design's increased complexity and cost means that it is unlikely to ever replace the more simple Kalashnikov design currently in service, the AN-94 has seen limited use by some units, and the unique mode of operation may influence a future design.
In-game, damage is moderate, with the AN-94 offering a reasonable 3-hit kill range - impressive by most automatic weapon standards, and only bested by the SCAR-H.
At a distance, you may need up to five shots to kill - but a single headshot will guarantee a 4-shot kill at any distance, which means you should experience quite consistent damage performance across a wide variety of ranges.
Penetration ability is average, the same as the majority of the other assault rifles.
Rate of fire is particularly unusual - in a similar fashion to the HAMR, the AN-94 has a dual fire rate: with the first two rounds fired more quickly than the remainder.
The initial two-round burst is fired at 940 rounds per minute - a very impressive rate given the weapon's higher damage - and successive shots are fired are a more sedate 625 rounds per minute.
These faster rounds grant bonus effectiveness to those able to get on target rapidly with their first shots - and can decide the outcome of a firefight.
When paired with select fire, the AN-94 will retain its two-round burst mode, a trait shared only with the Vector K10.
When employed as a burst fire weapon, all your shots fired will be at the higher fire rate - but you will have to expend more effort in pulling the trigger repeatedly.
Hipfire performance is as expected for the assault rifle class: reliable enough to repel close range enemies, but not nearly as competitive as an SMG.
Recoil is more than controllable in most instances: the initial burst will normally find the same target, and the slower fire rate of the successive shots helps to moderate the effect of the weapon's kick.
At longer ranges, burst firing can prove effective - both to lessen the impact of recoil, and to otherwise take advantage of the enhanced fire rate.
Aim time is standard for the AN's class, at 250 milliseconds, as are switch times and your mobility: you'll move at 95 percent of the base speed.
Magazine capacity is also standard: 30 rounds is on par for the assault rifle class, and will normally prove sufficient for most gunfights.
Extended clip takes this capacity to 40 rounds instead.
Reload times are average, at just a little shy of two and a half seconds - generally not a problem, but it's wise to keep an eye on your count mid-firefight.
The AN-94 is a strong offering within the assault rifle category that offers a versatile blend of damage and handling, with the benefit of a unique output trait.
The initial two-round burst is its strongest asset if you can snap onto targets quickly, with such a burst accelerating your time to kill and needing just a third shot to finish them off at a close range.
Otherwise, the AN is a versatile weapon that can shrug off opponents at almost any range - it's hard to dislike the well-rounded performance.
However, the slower sustained rate of fire can put you at a disadvantage when circumstances demand more output: unexpected encounters with faster-firing opponents may place you at a disadvantage.
The weapon's versatility is its own downfall, too - a jack of all trades, but master of none.
Plenty of weapons will outclass you up close, and the same will apply at a longer range, too.
Still, such adaptability is a trait in itself - so you can worry less about positioning and instead focus on your sights.
If you're able to consistently land the first shot on your opponent, rapid kills will be your reward - proving reliable when tackling targets both near and far.
The AN-94 might be more Abakan than abacus, but nevertheless...
...you can definitely count on this weapon.

Man, this series is still binge watchable even in 2021, its just so satisfying and fun to watch plus the nostalgia of playing BO2 is big when i used to watch this guy to get an idea for loadouts of any gun and it makes me miss playing BO2

No COD game has managed to match the satisfaction of bo2 kills so far. Bo2 has the crunchiest most satisfying hitmarkers of any cod game, I could watch this all day

Such nostalgic memories with all the gameplay and utmost professionalism in seeking out each weapon's hidden purpose despite them being a bunch of guns. The variant in game seems to be the mythical AN-97 which is the 7.62x39 variant of the AN-94, which explains the lower burst firerate and higher damage.

My class is the an-94 with suppressor and stock, hardline/ghost depending on how I feel, toughness and scavenger because they are absolutely essential, dexterity and a C4 with an emp grenade. If someone gets a vsat, Throw the emp at them and laugh as they die to your bullets.
Spamming EMP grenades while the enemy's got a VSAT. I've never thought of that, thank you!

ok fax I run a stealth build on m7 AN-94 which is AN-94 with Suppressor, Grip, Extended Mag or FMJ, No Secondary, Primary Gunfighter Wildcard, Perk 1: Bind Eye or Lightweight, Perk 2 Greed Wildcard: Scavenger and Cold Blooded, Perk 3: Dexterity.

Take out the secondary and put on perk 2 greed to add in scavenger since you will run out of ammo quickly most of the time.

Don't really use it, my goal is here to avoid CQC Gunfights, and I don't really need QuickDraw with that class in particular ;p

Legit miss when COD was fun.
The AN-94 just proves that select fire is a great attachment. Zero recoil for the first 2 shots, and the burst fire mode shoots only 2 shots per trigger pull. Literally the least recoil if used in burst mode

I swear, the AN-94's hyper burst scares me. Hearing 5.45 leaving the barrel at such a rate of fire would honestly make me pass out of shock and terror before I ever got hit in the first place.

Ikr, every pub I go to has like 3 snipers. On both teams. And I always crush them with SCAR or MP7 XD
Once on TDM on Carrier (Aka The Sniper Ship) we were losing, like, 26-63 when I joined.
Almost EVERYBODY on the enemy team but the one on top was a sniper, and they were bad at reacting when being flanked. Needless to say, free kills :)
(We ended up winning 75-71 XD)

Stu made getting Bloodthirsty medals look so easy, I have 2 gold guns (Ballista and MP7) but I got those just a couple months after the game came out, and now its hard to get a 2-3 killstreak, with connections, snipers, and 3/4 of each lobby being prestige masters :/
Or maybe I'm just bad, but I never used to have such difficulty getting them.

I was just smashing my opponents with a similar setup. My class was this... AN-94 fast mags and quick draw handle. I didn't use primary gunfighter or stock, though I get it. I used Lightweight, Perk 2 Greed with Scavenger and Toughness, and Dexterity in the 3'rd perk slot. I had a trophy system only because I had a sentry gun and guardian in my killstreaks, but I think I'll just lower my killstreaks to UAV, Hunter Killer Drone, Final slot, the anti-air-support rockets.

I think this gun is kind of an odd example of a newb crutch for assault rifles. People think that because it's the last gun unlocked in the game that it therefore must be super powerful and thus they spam it to kingdom come, and I'd say 40-50% of all first prestiges choose this weapon to carry along with them.
Don't get me wrong, It's a solid assault rifle with fantastic iron sights, but I wish more people would use other weapons in the class other than the Scar-H and this weapon. I hardly ever see people not using this weapon, and it's always in gold
And don't forget the fact they always use those two with suppressors and fast mag with scavenger

Pleakly Unleashed ^This; the online of PS3 is buried in Gold ANs and SCARs with the infrequent FAL, M27 or MTAR rearing their heads from time to time.
My assault rifles of choice are the SWAT/M8A1 and I can count on one hand the amount of people online I've encountered wielding the SWAT; the M8 is slightly more common but only barely so.
One Week Wizard The FAL OSW & KSG(shotgun) are my favorite weapons simply because they are powerful but don't have fast rpm's.
This causes them to have a more skilled player;it's also more rewarding.
But then again select fire & suppressors :'(

Irl it has a 2 shot hyper burst, which is 1800RPM. If it is just used as a semi-auto, then it will replace all other semi-auto rifles

I'm a big believer in splicing classes in between the strength of the weapon and your play style. I'm extremely faithful to Ahoy's class builds but I've learned that if you value stealth but still want to reap the benefits of this gun, ditching fast mag in place of a suppressor is in your best interest. I can explain further if anyone's curious (probably not)
