Breadwinner for a house of 10? That is a HUGE red flag. Run buddy, run.
I hope Geo has a update in around 10 months
Agree
Massive red flag....playing the long game
I have lived in Bacolod 6 years, after listening to this guy I believe there must be 2 Bacolods in Philippines
@@brucemattingley3358 yeah, especially describing the traffic, right?
Bread winner for ten? Seriously and respectfully consider how this will affect your future because it is now your obligation and it will never end.
That's a large obligation to have a girlfriend who takes care of 10 other relatives???? I take my hat off for him and hope he doesn't get the rude awakening 😮
I agree. He's Clueless to Filipino culture and laws. If he married her, he would have a Legal obligation to support 10 people.
Spot on with all those mouths . My walkin closet is 150 sqft but do you .
No way I’m taking on that kind of responsibility
Right
My only advice is to take your time with the Philippina, get to know her for at least 8 months before you commit to anything past dating. If she is taking care of 10 people that means it's not just her parents ,it's her sisters and brothers and maybe even aunts and if they find out she is dating a foreigner. That pressure might increase . Not to say that you're not lucky but cover your bases. Deep down her family will come first for most Philippina's. Good luck bro and stay safe
And two may be hers 8

Hi, Gio, I am 73 year old Filipina woman who has lived in Bacolod city all my life , and I really appreciate your guestfor saying that Bacolod is the best city, and he is right! You should really have to live inthe city to be able to say that this city is the best city. I am a fan of your vblog and I do appreciate and respect your opinions regarding our country. God bless you and your guest !
Wonderful!
been in the country for 26 days and only known this girl for a very little while. Couldn't believe my ears when he said she's very nice and she looks after my money. he seems like a intelligent person how could he handover his finances to a girl he doesn't even know who is taking care of 10 family members?
The lure of a young girl for middle and old age men is irresistible, and they will do anything to keep her.
Yeah. My eyebrows lifted also. 26 days and talking about kids?????
Something doesn't really add up with this guy
I did not take the conversation as you did. My interpretation is not that he has put his finances in her hands but rather when he spends money she is telling him he does not have to do that to impress her she is fine with less. As for talking about those things...... you absolutely should talk about those things if you are interested in dating specifically for marriage. You frankly should have those conversations early whether you are dating someone in asia or if you are dating an American girl in the states. If you are not just looking for casual you should absolutely have those conversations early and weed out those that do not fit what you are looking for early,.
This is how I took the conversation also. I did not get the impression that she controls his money. She looks out for him so he isn't overcharged or spending too much. I also think those are important things to talk about if you are looking for something serious. You summed it up well and thanks for the comment.
@@gerbourke1952 I never said "I handed my finances over to her." SMH...
@@GiointhePhilippines thank you for the comment, I hope you're right, I've seen a lot of expats getting taken for their money, like I said before he looks to be a very intelligent guy, so I'm pretty sure he knows what he's doing
She is talking her time and slowly reeling in the big catch to feed her family. So many guys myself included have come here to the Philippines thinking they have all the answers to living here when they don’t. They should authentically educate themselves and live here a year before making any big decisions. Slowing things down with the women can save you a lot of money.
I seen it teke years before they swoop.
The house you built is on my land. Bugger off
150 sqf. @ 400 per month$. cost more than 70% of America . 1200$ per month abroad spending allowance. never!
I have lived in Bacolod for 9 years, it is not a smaller city (current pop. 661,000). I would say it’s not a tourist destination. It has a lot to offer in amenities. SM is planning to build another mall on the old airport site in Singcang. So plenty of malls. Beaches, yes but not the beaches you think of when you think of beaches in the Philippines. The beaches south of Bacolod are mud beaches, for those beautiful white sand beaches we all envision you have to drive about 4 hours south to Sipalay and yes they are worth the drive. I am a golf addict, so I love Bacolod. I have a country club membership at Bacolod CC and it didn’t break the bank. Flying with connecting flights is a problem but driving is not. I have driven to Cebu multiple times, Boracay and Dumaguete. You can catch the 2go ferry from Bacolod to Cagayan de oro on Mindanao. Our city has lots of problems with traffic, as do most Philippine cities. It’s not a clean city, lots of trash. The city as a whole is not run very well. If I had explored Iloilo before settling here, I would probably be living there. Best thing to do is explore before settling down.

Wow already an expert on the Philippines in only 29 days on the ground. Also commiting to feeding 10 mouths after abfee dates. What could go wrong?
Simp ly stating facts. Hope to see 1yr anniversary video.
What could go wrong!!
He needs some rich philapino friends to steer him.
That girlfriend of his should put her FOOT down and have a serious talk to the rest of her family regarding everyone of age and good health should work asap.
Never lower your standards for anyone, including a woman you meet. You are all there in the Philippines to GET AWAY from drama, stress, and to find PEACE in your lives!
Steve sounds like a great guy that’s very logical-that will serve him well in the west. The PI is a completely different scenario and it sounds like Steve is naive in the ways of Asia. Filipinas are experts in playing the long game. Be careful Steve, she’s got the hook in your mouth and is reeling you in slowly. Soon she’ll start needing “just a little help” in taking care of that big family. Don’t forget the best position you can obtain is #2, her family will always be first. I wish you the best and hope you are the exception, but statistically you’re about to be had. Good luck and may your God bless you and guide you.
I heard a middle class filapina tell her english husband. I am sorry but my family will always come first. Very honest and she money
He found his way around and He settled in quick. But what did he say about Davao? that it was crowded or polluted? I was there I didn’t think it was polluted, but it can be busy. Very safe there and you gotta find the right section of town to live in and then you can have everything within walking distance. Market shops, malls that sort of thing.
I think his complaint was it's very spread out and not walkable.
Great choice Steve! Bacolod is an up and coming super city with good support services.
Hi Gio. I came to your videos thru LifeBeyondTheSea. I like your down-to-earth focus as well as Reekay's common sense advice. I've never been to the Phils, but being born & raised in South America of Canadian parents I can relate to the way of life of the Ph people. Greetings from the Okanagan (BC) - Doug
Awesome! Thank you!
You live in a great part of Canada, I have spent a lot of time just south of you in Tonasket and do miss that part of the northwest.
The way some of these guys fall in love so fast and are happy to support the extended families of these women is beyond me 🤷♀️
He wouldn’t do that in his own country!
Unless he is a multi millionaire he will be bled dry by her entire family so i sincerely hopes he gets a reality check soon 😮
I spent my 2023 Christmas in Bacolod and loved it. The usual things about the Philippines was true in Bacolod (nice people, great restaurants, and crazy traffic). But be careful if you order drinks made with the local water (like lemonade) which can make you sick if your stomach isn't used to it. Also just like anywhere else be careful with street food that have been sitting outside for hours. This city is growing superfast. The one thing that I found strange was when I went to one of their upscale romantic restaurants that had alot of liquor bottles on display but then they never sold any mixed drinks at all. The waitress told us that they only sell the liquor bottles at a very high rate. So I had to settle for a coke.
Good luck for this gentleman and I’d like to see a follow up interview next year or two.😊 I am frugal like him and walk along Lacson street all the time as it is walkable (usually after sunset) or take the mini air con buses (alternative to jeepneys). But no nightlife as I prefer Makati for social activities and I’m bored going to malls to walk around for the air con. I have yet to check out Maskara 🤞
I can't wait for my turn...Good video GIO ...THANKS
If those "10 family members" are highly educated, yes she is right that she has no problem helping them, because they help themself easily... But I have BIG doubts they are educated. So, in very short time they will start demanding... and it will never stop
Good luck!
I lived in Bacolod City for 6 years it's a nice city but that guy is way off when he said that he didn't want to learn another language, but ok to each his own, the downside is that if you want to travel overseas or even domestic, then some of the flights you have to fly via Manila which makes the flight more expensive. If you're a frequent traveller it can be a hassle otherwise the city is livable and far better than Dumaguete
We feel we're to old 2 try to learn a new language. It's not we don't want to but seems impossible at our age...

Gio, I see all these vids talking about healthcare in the Philippines and no one mentions ......Use your VA Healthcare . Soon to have a couple more clinics Cebu and Makati. Word has it 4 air bases will soon re open and the Philippines will be full of Americans again. Also, my private Health insurance said I could submit paid bills to them if I stayed on my tourist visa. Has to be from a national provider not a local one though.
Yes, there will be a lot more young Americans here. The benefits will be nice for vets though!
This guy strikes me as a know it all in general and now has the Phils and his sad life figured out after just 26 days in country. Super super naive and headed for an awakening. We can only hope for updates and get out the popcorn!
the beaches are south of bacolod about 10 minutes pass the old airport.
I like Siquijor but thats sounding good too
U right. Good island
Good video Thank you
I'm planning on living to 100 and my costs doubling every 10 to 20 years. I'm not going to predict how this guy's going to get by. He's relatively young and living for today. So Mama will probably be brought to the US for 20 years while he works. Good luck.
Okay, it's 650 peso's for a cavity filled. Wow., that's less than $13. Jeez, couldn't get a new needle in America for that price, let alone Lidocaine.
How do you do the banking? Need to have access to my VA and SS retirement... would love to have both in the USA and PH.
Gio, two questions. I'm interested to come for a boots on the ground visit in August or September. Is that a bad time of the year weather wise to visit? Also, I don't have a month of vacation I have two weeks. I'd like to look at several towns to look to move to and visit even if it's a day or two. What towns would you recommend and how best can I accomplish this? I have my motorcycle endorsement and that doesn't frighten me however I do want to be able to travel home in 2 weeks after my adventure.
No, i think August and September are fine. Cebu, Dumaguete and Bohol are very close and just a boat ride away.
Do there Do driving lessons in the Philippines gio
Cadiz city??
I too will be moving to that area! Bacolod or Silay City. Pay no attention to the negative pessimistic comments on here. You sound like a smart person, who has done your research. Enjoy your life there. Not all Filipinas are good diggers or looking for you to take care of their whole family.
Wow $1200 how that's great
His budget is about to increase to $5,000mth easily once the family starts getting in line he's about to experience a permanent brownout 🤣🤣🤣
What really worries me is your rent. In the provinces.22k.wow
I have an off-topic question. I'm moving to Cebu in September. Do I need to open a Bank account in the Philippines? Our can I just use my Debit and Credit Card at the many ATM's in Cebu?
Atm is fine. Use hsbc if you can find. Foriegners without jobs should not be. Allowed to have a bank accoun. But it can be done😊
The City sounds nice and convenient . Breadwinner for a house of 10 is problematic , unless you are ready to invest into a family business and get the other 9 on the staff .
This guy is moving way too quickly
Gio and Steve great video, I’ve been following you for a while and have been learning a lot. I’m 62, Army veteran. The Philippines looks like it may be in the future for me, I too was considering Iloilo and Bocolod.
I’m not interested in online dating but may follow Steve’s footsteps by going to visit for a few weeks and see if this will be a good fit for me before making any big plans. Thank you for making these videos and being so thorough in your explanations, guidance and reasoning behind them.
Thank you and best of luck!
a honest taxi cab company in iloilo is light of glory............. i think they have an app too.
"retiring" in southeast asia in your 40s is a Baaaaaaaaaaaaaad idea if you've only got $1200 a month to live on . Stay in the states and keep working on your SSN funds, savings and extra pension if you can find one.

Seems like a "happy camper" - and he's about as content as he can be - for now ? --- Things are always - ''subject to change'' - and no doubt they will eventually - 'change' ? --- Healthcare in that city would keep 'me' away - but I'm old. A used Honda Click doesn't cost that much and it gives you 'freedom' - you don't have w/o ! -- Very hard for me to be w/o transportation of some kind - I'm so used to it.
I need transportation myself, can't imagine myself without my motorbike.
Nothing wrong with health care in Bacolod, know from unfortunate experience. The down town heavily polluted, traffic is often gridlocked. there is seedy nitelife if you know where to go, No great near by beaches.
@@brucemattingley3358 says ''you'' on the health care ! -- The E F Hutton of health insurance in the Philippines - is - Michael Onstad with 40 years experience ! > And ''he says'' - only 2 cities in the Philippines had "world class healthcare" - if you need specialists - and not to stray too far from Manila & Cebu !!! > That's it !!!!!!!!!
Nice place, but dude, you should know better. Handing over your personal finances to a woman whom is a breadwinner for 10 other ppl is like opening a can of worms ! Get out of that relationship ASAP !
Bacolod has more establishments than Dumaguete and soon it will have a BGC like Iloilo.
Dnt compare Bacolod to dumaguete...coz Bacolod is am major metropolis city...you can compare Bacolod to Cdo,Iloilo,Baguio.....
Anyone reading this DON’T waste your time going to calamba city. Crowded, traffic is horrible, trash everywhere and pollution from the trikes and motorcycles pouring out black smoke
I like your videos but I have some comments about your sometimes promotions in some area.
1- Rent a house in Philippines: After the covid situation, the housing market for foreigners in the Philippines increased like crazy, which also made it more expensive to rent houses for Filipinos. Every time you compare living expenses in America or Europe with Philippines, you actually encourage the landlords to increase the rent of their houses and this will reduce the financial ability of the local people in the Philippines. You better accept the fact that we live in a country where the average monthly salary of local people is not more than 15,000 pesos, so none of the local people are able to pay only the house rent of 22,000 pesos, which you think is very cheap compared to America. In the long run, the issue will cause more class differences & more.
2- In one of your video an American was happy to ride a Jeepney because is so cheap for him. This is in fact another indirect promotion of the Jeepney which are the cause of lots of pollutions & noise in every corner of this beautiful country while the government already have been trying to replace them to a Electric one with the same shape but due to financial budget issues can’t do it now but in process.
I understand you like many foreigners will sell your videos due to unique subjects like budget compare but we also need to think about the local people & try to add something positive for them while we live here.
Than you for your attention

I wish us westerners would try harder to pronounce tagalog words and Philippine cities correctly.
So all letters 'a' are pronounced 'ah' and all letters 'o' are pronounced 'oh'.
So Bacolod is pronounced Bah-coh-lohd.
Love your channel Gio.
That’s interesting. In Spanish the A’s and O’s are pronounced the same way. Can’t help but wonder if it is because of the Spanish influence from many moons ago, or has it always been that way. 🤷

Gio I listen to a man and wife that travel a lot and on their blog they swear that you can't stay in the Philippines longer than 59 days without getting a retirement Visa they said they have talked to immigration and there's nothing out there that says that you could keep renewing your Visa, but every blogger in the Philippines says otherwise you can stay there for 3 years renewing your Visa every month and then leave one day and come back and stay 3 years
Best to get retirement visa. Tourist visa is meant for touring not living
I have a retirement visa and have lived here for 5 years, however, it is not required to get to stay in the Philippines long-term. You can still, to this day, keep renewing your tourist visa for up to 3 years before you have to fly out of the country.
Never been an issue to renew my tourist Visa. Unless you're ex-military, tying up $20k for an SRRV visa is Not a smart investment -IMHO
Google "Bureau of Immigration Philippines." Your correct answers are there.

Wow 😮 Will just realize how frugal he is! He spent 48k pesos living in Cebu for 2 person for everything for a month. 70k was so high for him 😂 he showed me this video
I would add a perspective here...this guy is willing to take a chance on 10 family members because he would likely not get a sniff from a woman back home...sad to say.
