I remember watching the finish of this game in disbelief. I'll never forget it. My visits to Jacksonville have been far less exciting than the way this went.
I was at that game! My last deployment to NAS Jacksonville. That's one memory I'll never forget. I'm a dolphins fan but couldn't pass up a 5 dollar ticket as long as I wore my dress whites. That was amazing being there. Just gave me chills
I had a chance to ask Chris Hudson what was going through his mind as he was running this ball back. He looked at me dead seriously for a few seconds, smiled and said " Don't trip." Love my Jags. man.
Monday Night Football used to be an event. I'd always make sure to have my homework done on time so I could sit and watch MNF with my undivided attention.
Brian Waas people sleep on Mark Brunell. 2 time MVP of the Pro Bowl. 4 straight playoff appearances, 3 time Pro Bowler. He was the best QB on the planet in 1996 and made All Pro. In 96 he led the league in passing with 4300 yards and he also led all QB in rushing yards. He beat Buffalo and Denver in what is considered one of the greatest upsets in NFL history. If you look at the first 8 years and compare them to McNabb, you basically get the same numbers. Brunell made Jimmy Smith and Keenan McCardell. Before Brunell they were Scarface joe’s.
@@drewzuhosky6826 At the time, an extra point attempt was required at the end of a game regardless on how it would have affected the outcome. Before the 2018 season, in response to what happened after the Vikings beat the Saints on the final play of a 2017 Divisional Playoff game, the NFL removed the requirement for end-of-game extra points if they did not affect the outcome.
Only time I can ever recall in modern times that happening after a telecast had gone off the air. ABC didn't have a postgame show and always immediately signed off after the game ended to send it to their local affiliates for late-night news. Most major newspapers on the East coast went to print with the 29-21 final score because they never knew the PAT was kicked.
@daniel anderson Nope they did it the old-school way. Came on-air at 9PM, game kicked off at 9:05, and they usually went off-air within 60 seconds of the game ending.
Kordell was right about 1 thing...he was a Pro Bowl QB in 2001. HOF, not so much. But he was the next revision of the mobile QB after Randall Cunningham. He should have stayed a multi-versatile player....he just wasnt good enough to be a great QB.
@@killalltogepis9916 I've always thought O'Donnell was really good. He even has the 14th lowest INT rate in NFL history... he wasn't turnover prone at all! Too bad he became known for that pick in the Super Bowl where his receiver ran the wrong route! Also, best beard any NFL QB has ever had? I can't even think of who else would be in that convo, like majority of QBs are clean shaven.
I was part of the 4 guys who sang the National Anthem for this game. 74K fans. Wish I could find footage of this somewhere.
Sweet
I wish I could find footage of the final extra point somewhere
the freaking game meant so much back then!!!! nestalgia is a drug, great video
Official JaguarGator9 brought me here.

Greg Lloyd wasn't the same player after a torn patella tendon injury in his left knee against these same Jaguars in the season opener of the 1996.
From $ 100.000 ,000 to over $ 3 billion for an updated stadium. Ludicris!!!
Love this game! Have any other Brunell era Jags games?
first MNF appearance for Jacksonville, in only their third season
Panthers debuted the following week
I love how people today talk about how athletes are so much “bigger, stronger and faster” now. What am I missing here? I don’t see it.

1:48:08 forgotten moment in MNF history.
I remember that like it was yesterday. Great stuff 😂
Here for Cowher almost going through on punching the guy at 2:15:33
I'm glad the black letter names was short lived
Chris Spearline I wonder if that was a mistake in 1997 and they brought the yellow names back the next year.
Jaguars beat the Steelers at home from 1995 - 1999.
Spoiler alert
First home win was against the Steelers
For most of my life since jags came in the league they also been a torn in our ass
EXTRA POINT PLEASE?
Still waiting for a Monday or Sunday night game.
Miss those days when the Jags played to win!
Bill Cowherd is a nice guy off the field

bullshit
You would have preferred Neil "Turnover" O'Donnell instead?
