And there will be a lot of people still pushing you to do it, but, though you didn’t mention it, I’m sure your sensitive also to the amount of physical/mental preparation that would be needed for you to participate to the best of your ability. The only thing I would think, in your position (and money aside), is that maybe you only have one good ADCC left in you, from a combination of disenchantment, physicality, ageing, etc., so, despite the money issues, just make sure you won’t look back on your career in a few years wondering “what if” when you are no longer in a position to do anything about it. Now, you know yourself and if you know that won’t be an issue, carry on - but if you have doubts…
Only way i would do a 3 month camp for 10k is just for the clicks and attention i might get if i win, odds of everything lining up are better over a weekend in Vegas
Keep speaking your mind on these subjects Craig, it's super enlightening from a fan perspective. I'd love to see a P&L for one of these events. Ticket sales and viewership are obviously increasing but the production costs have certainly increased at the same time. ADCC 2019 just looked like Grappling Industries first class, ADCC 2022 actually looked like a premier event. Obviously the athletes want to be paid more but they have to understand that ADCC needs that money to pay PRIDE lady, shoot fire out of the stage and buy all of the tables for the athletes to slam into.
Ya but this is the same arena that NHL players play in. NHL players make on average 3.5 million a year, which averages to $42683 per game for an 82 game season, and there are 20 players on a team, so 40 players in an arena getting paid $42K ish each, so the players are making about $1.7 per night in an arena. Plus the coaches and other members of the teams' salaries. Obviously ticket prices are higher for hockey games, and there are sponsors lining the boards and a bunch of factors, but the gap between $1.7 million for hockey and $230600 is too large. NHL players also get travel and food paid for. By the way I went to double check the winnings, and the absolute winner gets $40k which is nice and I didn't think that would be the case, but the superfight winner gets $40k and the superfight loser gets $10k, which seems like a huge chunk of their budget that could go to division winners. I also thought of the comparison to UFC fighters, who all make a minimum of 10K for losing, but the vast majority make more than that, most make significantly more than that. The most recent even with reported numbers the fighters made on average $145K each and that was for 24 fighters. There are usually somewhere between 24 and 32 fighters per event getting paid a bare minimum of 10K each, and they are often in arenas way smaller than the Vegas arena.

After a quick search I found IJF gives ~28,000 US dollars to Judo World Championship winners. They also give ~5,400 US dollars for many other grand slam events. They also give significant prize money for team events. The athletes also have a chance to qualify for the Olympics. Some countries will give Olympic Gold medalists a life pension.

They all make a minimum of 10K for losing, but the vast majority make more than that, most make significantly more than that. The most recent even with reported numbers (UFC 298) the fighters made on average $145K each, and that was for 24 fighters. There are usually somewhere between 24 and 32 fighters per UFC event getting paid a bare minimum of 10K each, and they are often in arenas way smaller than the Vegas arena, or in venues that only hold a few hundred or few thousand people. Again, UFC ticket prices are way higher, but the gap in the amount they make is large. Also, the superfight winner and loser take $50K of the prize money for ADCC, which is a large chunk that takes away from the incentive of the competing in the actual grappling world championships.
I do agree with your arguments but I think it still the best moment to be in the media and in contact with your fans, apart you gonna do other thing$ during the ADCC. If not I think it's better participate then just chill at home
I have been behind-the-scenes of major events like this. I’ve been involved in concert promotions, and sports promotions. The amount of overhead that AdCC is putting into this event is crazy. You don’t even get to use the T-Mobile center for 15 minutes without showing them over $500,000 just to tour the place in the event, you might use it. I got a believe that Mo has at least $10 million already invested in this event. He is buying tracks suits for 200 kids alone to wear that are in the kids worlds. Also, Craig does not mention that everybody’s transportation and housing is taking care of for a majority of all the top grapplers. Including the kids. I feel like this will be the last year that AdCC will still be at $10,000 for the winner. That needs to go up, but there is a shit load of overhead. As Dana White says, the UFC is not a career, it’s an opportunity. Conor McGregor did not make very much money in prize money during his career. But he’s going to make billions in his investments with the name that he got in the ufc.

What Craig isn’t saying about this is the time he’d have to take away from private lessons or seminars to enter a camp, for the max reward of $10k. I really think all the competitors should hold out for more money. I doubt they will hold out cause they think they need ADCC to be considered elite… Other thing Craig isn’t mentioning is the prize for winning absolute I think is like $40k. I believe that would be worthwhile. But yeah each division should be at least $20k-$25k prize. And $50k-$75k for absolute.
Also tbh if Kgreg is pulling in $50k a month from instructionals I'm feeling way less guilty about a certain 90gb complete collection - as of Oct 2023 folder that I never really bother to open and watch anyway
1. Did you see their actual payouts? They pay pennies, like $1500 for a fight. 2. They never made a profit and they keep losing money. 3. From whom they received $400 million in 2020? Yakuza? No one will attempt to change your mind because you're either misinformed or insane
You can market an adcc loss, you can market a win. But can you market not taking part? Videos about your adcc training and preparation would be LIT AF too! I think this comming adcc is good for you as a person and for your brand. Maybe retire at 2026 adcc.
I would say enjoy the moments of startdom and opportunity to participate in everything because it wont last forever. One day the calls will unfortunately stop.
I already knew what Craig was going to say before watching. Financially and even brand wise it doesn't make sense for him to compete. Somewhere, Mo is watching this and probably fuming 😂 (for those who don't know: Mo presents himself as very cool but the guy's an absolute hot head) Respect to Craig for stating this out in the open like this. The pay needs to change. It's ludicrous to imagine that the supposed "olympics" of the sport don't pay more for winning than a promotion like Enigma where Max Hanson just won $10k. At Polaris when did the women's grand prix, the prize money was $20k if I remember correctly. You never hear Craig complain about Polaris.
All I want to see is the best in the game, CJ, win the so called most important competition. I would be sooo happy to see you win. You're my spirit animal, you're the funniest. Hope I'll see you there
Completely agree with you.On the other hand, ADCC does not need you at all. They are no different from the UFC, the brand is valuable. They can get fighters or competitors anywhere willing to fight for peanuts. There's no upside for you unless you're getting paid heavily to be there.
We need Zuckerberg on board with Mo Jassim. Let's make these prize pools worth wrassling for. Also some rule changes to the ADCC format would be cool. Make the finals a no time limit match!
@@fran9023 How can it not, GR is cringy and nowhere near as entertaining as CJ but he still makes way more, that is because of his victories, especially his ADCC ones!

learning self defense is a natural thing that humans learned since the beginning of time to survive. There is never going to be a ton of money to be won in competitions. Always lots of money in entertainment and drama which fits into our societal normalcy unfortunately. There is money to be made if you are able to brand yourself in one way or another.
You were also wrecking EBI at the time, and I think historically you will be remembered as a guy who changed the sport for the better. Bodoni is freakin incredible but I think he’s looked at as a Danaher disciple. So why not just drink from the horses mouth, as they say in Aukland.
$10,000 is chicken feet. I don't think you should compete unless ADCC raises the prize money to send them a message that organisers shouldn't shortchange their competitors who are the reason people watch ADCC
Being that the Rich AF middle eastern country's run/own ADCC. You would think they would be more than willing to throw more cash at the winner? They do for everything else.
I respect Craig Jones for what he is saying but his argument would give Gordon Ryan every reason to NOT do ADCCs as well. If I remember correctly, Gordo was able to secure a significant amount of money in sponsors as well. As he is the outlier money wise, he’s also still competing regardless of the payout. I hope we see Jones at ADCCs. It would be a disservice to us fans to not see him there

8:35 Every fan would get behind you Craig
How many times will we hear the announcers say, “Ten thousand dollars on the line here.”
You can market an adcc loss, you can market a win. But can you market not taking part? Videos about your adcc training and preparation would be LIT AF too! I think this comming adcc is good for you as a person and for your brand.
Maybe retire at 2026 adcc.
Well said Craig! 🔥 you are now officially karate expert 😂😂😂
ADCC needs you Craig. Bring home that silver medal
How many nose beers does $10,000 get you? Not enough
Depends which Mother Land he's in
I would say enjoy the moments of startdom and opportunity to participate in everything because it wont last forever. One day the calls will unfortunately stop.
I already knew what Craig was going to say before watching. Financially and even brand wise it doesn't make sense for him to compete.
Somewhere, Mo is watching this and probably fuming 😂 (for those who don't know: Mo presents himself as very cool but the guy's an absolute hot head)
Respect to Craig for stating this out in the open like this.
Reminder that Mo Jasmine said bla bla about bringing justice to SA victims, yet year after year Vagner,Cyborg and Gordon gets to participate
Mo spends millions in hairs dye...
Mo cucked gordon
And Michael Sears sold me Fentanyl
Very well said!!
All I want to see is the best in the game, CJ, win the so called most important competition. I would be sooo happy to see you win. You're my spirit animal, you're the funniest. Hope I'll see you there
we really need a Craig Jones - Gordon Ryan match
How do you quit adcc while getting so close to gold
Ya gotta do it Craig! Win and then change named to A team just to piss of New Wave.
Mo could up the prize pools by himself if he wanted to- he just doesn't
An ADCC win should be a great recognition that can translate to more instructional videos and seminar sales.
For the glory ! Yes it does boost your career !
how would winning adcc boost craig's career? he is already one of the most famous grapplers in the world
@@fran9023 How can it not, GR is cringy and nowhere near as entertaining as CJ but he still makes way more, that is because of his victories, especially his ADCC ones!
Think about it though, winning would explode your name on a new level because even though you claim second if you won first everyone would talk about it
It would be great to enhance the prize money to further the personal business model of the few who do this for a living.
Whats with the tali hat?
Do it just to fuck with Lachlan and then once you win, announce your retirement from Jiu Jitsu and transition to full time Karate athleat
learning self defense is a natural thing that humans learned since the beginning of time to survive. There is never going to be a ton of money to be won in competitions. Always lots of money in entertainment and drama which fits into our societal normalcy unfortunately. There is money to be made if you are able to brand yourself in one way or another.
Nice hat dog !
Yeah the ibjjf GP pays like 40k
Will you…drop the white bulls merch por favor senor Hones
So glad the next adcc isnt gonna be on Flo. Sick of them hoarding all these epic matches behind a paywall and unusable ui
2:49 "and win it which we all know I'm not going to do"💀😂
I do agree 👍
IMO he’s got to do one more and come in 2nd again to truly solidify his legacy
10K is about 50 units of nose beer. Do it for the nose beers they will make you strong and smart
Moving up a weight last adcc was such a mistake, would’ve won 88 for sure
I thought it said "Will I do Acid" in the thumbnail...
Should be $100,000 easily. Maybe $250,000 to first. $100,000 to 2nd. $50,000 to third.
There was just a Street Fighter tournament where the winner won $1 million. ADCC can boost that prize money up a bit
I think 5th place was 10k prize? Really puts things into perspective haha
Talking about Yuri?
So when will you participate, at 15.000 USD ? Or, 20.000 USD ?
I think 100k minimum is fair
Being that the Rich AF middle eastern country's run/own ADCC. You would think they would be more than willing to throw more cash at the winner? They do for everything else.
Fair enough brother
I respect Craig Jones for what he is saying but his argument would give Gordon Ryan every reason to NOT do ADCCs as well. If I remember correctly, Gordo was able to secure a significant amount of money in sponsors as well. As he is the outlier money wise, he’s also still competing regardless of the payout. I hope we see Jones at ADCCs. It would be a disservice to us fans to not see him there
"Pillaged" brilliant
$10,000 is such poor pay for how good these guys are.
I learned a lot from your videos it gave me a no gi game thank you. What you say is true and kind of sad to hear
Tell Mo to go to the Pit style mats
When you win again this year, they should remain it "the Craig Jones Silver Medal"
