As former reserve police officer, Retired Firefighter and NRA Pistol Instructor, NRA Rifle Instructor and NRA Range Safety Officer. It was grilled into my brain when I went through training in Law Enforcement. YOU ARE SHOOTING TO STOP THE THREAT!

@Alan d'Eon you can get shot in the leg and have it ricochet throughout the inside of your body. Had a call for a child who got struck in a drive by with entrance wound in the leg and upper internal bleeding due to the bullet bouncing inside her
@Alan d'Eon if you are a cop and your forced to shoot someone to stop the threat posed to yourself or others. Do you really think that your gonna run up to that person really quick to put on a tourniquet when your not sure if they really are still a threat? Most cops are gonna wait for backup so they have some form of self protection.
I own a shotgun and every time I'm at the range, I'm always told to aim center mass because anywhere else other than center mass or the head poses a risk to other people at the range and to the equipment as well. If an average citizen gets this, why is this such a problem?
I'm very thankful that you made this video. It really did open up my understanding and outlook. Thank you. I don't have such a negative outlook concerning this now. I have a much deeper understanding.
Arent the likelyhood with this policy that shootings will increase? The reasoning being that the officer that are less confident in their ability to take down a threat will rather shoot earlier instead of "risking it". An Officer trained with the effective meathod will likely tolerate a higher level of threat before initiating a shooting.
God forbid I ever have to use my firearm I will continue shooting center mass as trained by the state. Also shooting at the legs can make someone bleed out faster than shooting at the center mass or head
It's just what you said it is, a ridiculous new standard. You and I probably started the same year, and wow the job and times have changed so much since then!
Already seeing a rise in hesitation in the police force and more news articles about fallen officers because of said hesitations. I fear for you and everyone else on the force. You have my prayers 🙏
That only applies to the thigh, not the lower leg. And the femoral artery takes up a tiny part of the thigh only. I'd prefer being shot in thigh more than anywhere in the torso.
@@brushemteeth9159 the problem is that people have no idea what they are talking about. Simple truth is- if you aim for abdomen/legs, you will not hit shit, and endanger your life. This is why it's so facepalmingly stupid. Deadly forse is deadly force. You shoot, center mass, until the threat is stopped.
A leg injury is often still less fatal than a wound to the chest where most of your vital organs reside. The femoral artery is but one part of the leg. It's not rocket science.
@@Jejdjejbfjf not true at all, leg wounds drain blood extremely quickly, especially if hit in multiple spots. As a surgical technologist who specializes in trauma, being shot in the leg has A LOT of negatives, the femoral artery isn’t the only major vascular part of the leg/ thigh. It also doesn’t take much common sense to know a leg shot isn’t going to take a threat out. Which means you’re going to have more bullet wounds, more bleeding, and makes it quicker to just bleed out especially since cops only carry one tourniquet makes it very obvious that you’ll just have more shots fired, more GSW, and a higher death rate. So good luck with that.
@@Froz0nPh0enix yeah as we have established getting shot anywhere in your body literally has many negatives, it goes without saying that it includes the legs. So there is no need to attempt to dispute or prove that as you have attempted to do. But I'm sure anyone with common sense would rather get shot in the leg than shot in the upper body which would likely puncture the heart, lungs or brain, literally the vital organs which upon failure could result in instantaneous death. The number of shots is besides the point and outside your expertise if any. Cops fire multiple shots for various reasons in the heat of the moment. Just watch those live police cam videos where multiple cops surround a suspect and simultaneously send a barrage of bullets into the body within a few seconds following a perceived threat. If they're gonna shoot multiple times anyway, obviously shoot in the legs/extremities to reduce what would inevitably be great injury to the suspect. Also it is grossly outside your expertise to assume that one shot to the leg wouldnt take a threat out. That largely depends on a gamut of factors including the hostility and pain endurance of the suspect, as well as the type of bullet/gun used. This fatal assumption of yours is what causes LEOs to use inappropriate degrees of force - very dangerous mentality! I'm disappointed that a supposedly professional technologist like yourself would endorse such false assumptions as if they are part of your expertise. Btw in where I live, one shot to the extremity is what we are trained to do as well to eliminate a threat, heck even the use of a taser might be sufficient. Idk where you got the info that you gotta shoot multiple times in the legs to be effective. You obviously dont know of the excruciating pain which comes with a bullet wound.
I love this. I was saying the guys teaching this, and the guy who accepted the push to train a department this way can't be taken seriously as officers. They should have refused or walked off the job.

I'm so glad I'm out of all that. I was a firearms instructor for Georgia. I would quit (if I still was working) if I had to be PC. Deadly force isn't just killing someone. It's defined as "DESTRUCTIVE PHYSICAL FORCE causing bodily injury or death."

Any person making these insane policies needs to demonstrate how this can be done successfully with a 99% or greater accuracy rate while shooting at a moving target. No shooting range demonstration where my 10 year old can hit any part of the target designated!

First of like to say, you don't need to apologize for not making videos. Number one job of your life is taking care of your family, that sounds like you are doing very well!! Second, I don't totally agree on this new policy. Yes, if one feels their life is at risk, deadly force should not be a 2nd source. But there are many calls where maybe a less of a kill shot could have been done. Can't truly say yes or no, all incidents have their issues and without one being in the officers shoes, don't make a judgement on the situation. Don't rely on the media either, again one will not see or hear all that went done on the specific incident. And 3rd, its has always been said if you only wound a person, its now open for them to sue you. Who wants to go through that Bullshit! Anyways, thank you for the video. I love watching your channel. Take care, stay safe, and God Bless!
I have a question, but to quickly preface - One thing I’ve noticed is that the only shooting cases in the news are the ones that are controversial i.e officers who really weren’t following protocol etc. But what we don’t hear about nearly as often are all the cases where suspects’ behavior warranted a clear and obvious use of deadly force and where officer and civilian lives were in real danger. I know they exist (thanks in part to your other videos) and so my question is what’s your sense of the ratio between the two? In other words how often does a genuine need for deadly force by an officer arise on a day-to-day basis? (In Georgia at least, I know probably varies by state) Thanks for all your hard work!
We should call this cod training. The only person who'd say shoot them in the legs or arms, would be the same person who's only "experience" with guns is from call of duty.

I live in Tulsa Oklahoma and I am glad to say that the Police chief and County Sheriff of Tulsa patrol when they have the chance. There was a shooting in 2020 where a police SGT and officer where shot during a traffic stop and the SGT sadly did not survive the encounter, there was a donation event where people would donate to the family's of the officers. The police chief, Sheriff and Sticks from Live PD were there, I asked the police chief and sheriff if the go on patrol, The police chief Wendell Franklin said "I would rather be a meter maid than a politician" and he is out in field when ever he has the chance. Sheriff Regalado is often busy swearing in corrections officers and doing community events for cherty, he is in the field quite often and even pulled me over once. I highly doubt this will be implemented in Oklahoma due to most of the Oklahoma population and mayors being pro law enforcement here and most of the brass is out in the field with the rank and file.
A lot of people don’t know how firearms & the human anatomy works to. Also I remember stories like Tango Mike Mike, Senior Chief Mike Day, & Officer Timmothy Grammins who’ve been shot at/taken multiple shots & those people survived being shot multiple times. It’s not hard to look at incidents like these & look into things like how firearms/polices officers work.
I served rather briefly in the Danish army, and they acturly have seperation between "Lethal force" and "shooting to incapacitate" in the latter of escalation (use of force rulebook). "So for instance if someone is running away with a stolen rifle, you don't have reason to beleive they're otherwise armed, and you can safely, and with high chance of sucess do it, shoot for the legs to incapacitate. If not, escalate to lethal force, and shoot center mass. By the way, it's practically impossible to get a hit on a running target's legs at 100 meters *wink* " - The captain who instructed us.
It's funny how the people upstairs who haven't worn an actual patrol uniform for 20+ years know so much about what the officers needed. Somehow, even more than the even officers themselves it seems.
Officer out of CA. That's a terrifying policy. OIS is almost a career ender as is even if you're justified but now you'll be dragged into court and picked apart for how you shoot under life or death.
Cali law enforcement here. I think it’s a good OPTION and it shouldn’t be progressed any further than an option. If the opportunity presents itself where an officer might think it’s a good idea to shoot for an arm or leg, the officer’s weapon will already be trained on the suspect and can instantaneously switch their sight picture if the situation develops negatively. Yes, there are arteries, but wounds to the limbs are far more survivable than wounds to critical organs in the torso and head. Additionally, most cops carry tourniquets. It would be good to have the training, it would very rarely be useful and what’s important to remember is that cops know it’ll rarely be useful because we’re the ones enacting and testifying on it. It’s gonna take some damn good instructors to get cops hitting targets like that, so it may also have a positive impact on firearm efficiency for many cops which we as cops know IS a liability. Firearms standards are ridiculously low for us if we’re being honest and comparing to any other professions with a gun. Cheers.
Many reports of serial store robbers in Georgia with stilts and leg casts. Three limbs and your out. Teens in Georgia reported to be breaking their arms and legs to look cool to classmates.
Completely agree with you. This also gives the officer less protection legally. You guys have so many factors involved, not only are you making these decisions in a split second, but like you said, the Adrenalin is a factor too…..If someone is running, or you’re struggling with the person, it’s going to make it really difficult to try and hit that person in an extremity. Plus in the legs, the femoral artery is huge, the pelvis has the mesenteric arteries, etc. So now, in court, the officers going to have to defend his/her split second, under stress, decision as to where they shot the suspect. This is getting ridiculous, and has to stop.
One thing bugs me is that if the situation is “not the most urgent”, shouldn’t they just try to taser the suspect instead? Either way I failed to see an intermediate level between taser and “lethal” gun usage.
The old saying, “ an appeaser is someone who feeds a crocodile, hoping it will eat him last” comes to mind when I first heard about this policy. Because that’s all this bullshit is, just attempts at appeasing the public.
LaGrange is inviting agencies to attend the training. A friend of mine is a GA Lieutenant who attended it. It seems like it's going to open up officer to additional legal liability. Why not see if your agency will allow you to attend their training and explanation and give us a follow-up video. I'd love to hear you perspective after attending it.
As someone who has been stabbed and shot in the legs and an arm, I can tell you hitting there will NOT stop the threat. Three punks tried to rob me and got a hit in both legs and my dominant arm, yet I was able to fight them off AND gave them worse injuries WITH MY HANDS than they did me WITH GUNS AND KNIVES. Oh I felt it when the threat was over and the adrenaline was ebbing off, but that took minutes AFTER I hurt the punks to start occuring. Even then, I still walked half a mile until someone saw me and drove me to a hospital. I retained consciousness the whole time. Point being, this new policy WILL fail.

There still are people who are involved in this career. I just graduated my academy and there is 15 other people who I know are passionate for it as well!
This kind of thing happens a lot in corporate settings and is as we would call it in the military "CYA" on their parts. They can now say "we told them" and wash their hands of responsibility. Good intentions aside be prepared to be thrown under the bus. It all sounds good on paper but ignores the realities of the situation.
@@johnpatti4391 CYA?? Cuddle Your Aardvark?
Just about every business, especially public utilities and govt entities, should adhere to the philosophy of, Cover Your Ass. In this sue happy world we live in they would be crazy not to. Another great non biased video. Every day Admin makes police work dammed if you do and dammed if you don't. I'm going to academy in the fall and can't wait to join this great calling. Your voice is speaking truth in a desperate time for Law Enforcement. Much Respect for your Courage.
2 quotes come to mind.
1st is from John at active self protection “you are responsible for every round that leaves your muzzle”
2nd is from Mel Gibson in his movie the patriot when he’s preparing his sons to ambush the English “shoot small - miss small”
Aiming for someone’s arm is a recipe for disaster
If you shoot BEFORE the knife-wielding suspect charges at you, you don't lose time and have a good chance to incapacitate. Leg shots work, if used timely and correctly.
Most of the officer involved shootings in Phoenix (like 95% of them) involve gun wielding suspects that are hyped up on meth. I feel like that might not help the situation. I'm just a delivery driver though so have no idea xD
@Fishy Tree Probably should’ve reread that before posting, shoot small doesn’t even make sense lol 🤦🏼♂️

I like to see all politicians go on a ride along at night for 1 shift, in the inner city. And in gang territory.
... with these amendments:
1. They go WITHOUT their own bodyguards.
2. They DO NOT get to wear any body armor.
3. Once every hour, they have to leave the patrol car & interact with the “public”.
The way I figure it, these appeasing politicians will be exterminated before the second hour begins.
Snipers are actually taught to shoot center Mass for the same reason, it's the one part that doesn't move. Also, in reference to the femoral artery comment you made, when someone is shot in their gut there is a saying that goes, when the blood turns black grab a body bag from the back. It can be a very slow and inhumane way to die. I, in no way endorse deadly shooting, but if left with no choice then the obvious solution is the quickest and most efficient one. I too, and glad to see you back, and totally agree with what you're saying!
Thanks for the feedback Mike!

@@Eugenepanels honestly shooting firearms needs to be a regular practice/ordeal for people. Mainly because if you do have to shoot for the love of all holy don't miss. Practice literally makes perfect.
Yes the king is back!!!!
Edit: this new policy is dumb and will cost lives. This policy is as dumb as the Army taking away shark attacks a pt tests from basic training.
Yessss finnallllllly!!!!! I need more of this beautiful half Asian half Hispanic beauty in my life!
I agree with shooting to stop the threat. That being said, if deadly force isn’t as far as you want to go it sounds like the firearm is not the correct choice of tool in that instance.
I just look up your channel yesterday to see if I missed anything glad I haven’t!
I DON'T WORK IN LAW ENFORCEMENT, so I probably don't know much... but I agree with you, officer401. Your safety & safety of people in your communities SHOULD BE on TOP of the list! I'm a STRONG SUPPORTER of LE. Praying for all of you and I have your six.
glad you're back!
glad you're black
So I have an Uncle who's a retired NSA agent. He's also a expert marksman with pistols. Even he doesn't have the confidence to hit an arm or leg. He (and i) has the opinion "if you don't have the confidence and skill to hit your target with every round in your magazine, don't take the shot."
You always hear “can’t they sit in the leg?” But if they get hit in the femoral artery they bleed out real quick Anyway right?
Deadly force is deadly force. Face or foot, 1 shot or 10...shoot until the threat stops.
I was just going to bring up the femoral artery being in the pelvic and leg area as well. Lol. Bleed out in minutes.
Yes the femoral artery is in the hips, legs and, lower abdomen. Yes shooting it has a high chance of killing them anyway.
Mike the Cop, “Pretty please...put the gun down, otherwise, I’mma shoot you in the toes!”
Common sense is not so common any more. Thank you for your video. Speaking truth to power
“Shot to kill is more like it” 🙌 The actual phrase used is shoot to stop the threat.
couldn't have said it better. hats off to you for making this video.
I’m glad you exist on here. Your so well spoken and excellent at getting your point across. 🤘🏻
I can’t wait until the general public learns the femoral artery exists and a shot to the leg still can result in a fatality.
Keep em comin, sarge! No worries. Tend to your family. Your viewers will just be here.

Why is it not policy for police chiefs and their administration not have to still work the streets?? I worked in the airline industry and some one of our chiefs still had to work. They had to prove that they could still do their job, so they worked every three months. I know it doesn’t sound like a lot, but it’s better than someone never working again after being elected! Nothing but good common sense from your channel, Officer401. I admire you for sticking to your guns instead of bending over backward in this socio-political climate like so many people and departments are doing.
Awesome video officer 401
I'm so glad I'm out of all that. I was a firearms instructor for Georgia. I would quit (if I still was working) if I had to be PC. Deadly force isn't just killing someone. It's defined as "DESTRUCTIVE PHYSICAL FORCE causing bodily injury or death."
Another great video from the demigod himself. Also I've started watching Donut operator because of your mention in the Patty Mayo vid, no regrets XD. Stay safe man
Any person making these insane policies needs to demonstrate how this can be done successfully with a 99% or greater accuracy rate while shooting at a moving target. No shooting range demonstration where my 10 year old can hit any part of the target designated!
NAILED IT !!!! I lived in that area. I am surprised their chief has given in to this notion.
PS: - Please notice that NOTHING similar to this has been announced by the Troup County Sheriff. Lagrange is in Troup County.
You guys!! Are awesome you put your life on the line for us amazing!!
My only real issue with law enforcement is how often I see police escalating a situation instead of using common sense deesculation
First off I agree 1 million% with your statement about changing policies, second man don't have to explain family always comes first I'm a father of 2 myself life get busy the real fans understand love the video I wish there was more people like you out there

I swear, people have NO common sense, sounds to me like that PD is not smart and wants a lawsuit on their ass
Nobody pushing for these policies has ever held or shot a gun. Disgustingly dishonest and shameful.
It's funny how the people upstairs who haven't worn an actual patrol uniform for 20+ years know so much about what the officers needed. Somehow, even more than the even officers themselves it seems.
Not everyone who is incapacitated is dead, but every one that is dead is incapacitated…
You are so spot on! This pablum of neoleftist thought is tragic.
You got a life buddy, no need to apologise, look after the family. God Be with you mate
One thing bugs me is that if the situation is “not the most urgent”, shouldn’t they just try to taser the suspect instead?
Either way I failed to see an intermediate level between taser and “lethal” gun usage.
Well said Officer 401
The old saying, “ an appeaser is someone who feeds a crocodile, hoping it will eat him last” comes to mind when I first heard about this policy. Because that’s all this bullshit is, just attempts at appeasing the public.
Missed you!!!
Thank you for all you do stay safe ..
Offficer 401 can you do a vid about the psychological test in the hiring process? thanks for all the info and interesting stories you share!!!
He's done them in the past. Look through his vids from a couple years ago. He did a whole series about the application/hiring process. But his main advice for the psych part was just be completely honest. They'll ask a bunch of questions in different ways trying to get you to slip. If you think you can fake it, you can't. They've have alot more practice spotting liars than most people have had lying. Lol
