13:47 we just pause the video and have decided to go back and buy the vehicle. Saving almost 10,000 off MSRP on a 4000 mile driven 2022. Hopefully the dealer doesn't know how psyched I am. Thanks for the great content and throw
Thorough review. We'll finish this video after clearing out our vehicle for trade-in. THANKS, Gold Pony !.!
six months in.... I friggin love my kona. stylish, smart, reliable, powerful enough for my needs.
still loving it? i just bought a 2022 kona limited and im so excited!
I just got two 2022 n line and freaking love it @@mayam7608
Just bought a SE with the same color but with black seats and love it so far. Traded my 21 Camry , didn't like how the transmission was ( sluggish, jerky, etc.) We weren't picky and just wanted something durable and with a great warranty which Toyota doesn't have. Me and my wife love these videos. Keep the great content coming.
Thank you SO much for making this video. I have a Kona coming in to the dealership that my mom helped me choose. I have high hopes that it will be a good car
ok but this is literally the best review i've seen of this car so far.
Appreciate it!
I just got two n line. This week. I freaking love this thing. It's super quick!
I have had two. I bought one of the first ones sold. I love mine❤️❤️❤️
Had it for a couple of months and i love it
I like the new styling of the new 2022 hyundai kona
🤜🏼Very thorough and helpful🤛🏼
Thank you for you honest straight up insight. I appreciate your review.

Wow, gimme the 2022 Kona in N-Line trim please! That N-Line sneak peek was awesome, especially in killer red. Thank you for another excellent review GP! 👍
Appreciate the support as always! 😁
the music that you tuned in was as great as the kona! that's from klove radio💕
Got Hyundai Kona 2022 s e l love the bells & whistles
keeping it
Awesome SUV! Congrats!
I own one and love it. Although it just went to dealer service because it ran a self diagnostic and shut itself down. Waiting to hear what the problem is.
Zero excuse for redesigns to not include led head lights! The additional cost is minimal as the wiring and housing is already there. This is a safety issue!
Not really as some Halogen systems actually still produce better light at a greater distance. Unless you are talking about Matrix LED but that is expensive. People just assume LED is always better but not always as this has been proven in light tests.
Another great review! The face lift on the new Kona looks great!!
I want all the "bells and whistles" like I have on my current 2019 Limited Kona. Looks like I'm getting the 2022 Limited version (FWD) even though I don't need Navigation. Looks like the pop-up plastic Heads Up Display is discontinued? Glad my 3-year lease is ending at the end of 2021. Hopefully, there will be more selections available as the chip shortage and South Korea factory ramps up Kona production again!
Do you mention how to change the radio station on the radio? Because I can't figure it out. I also can't figure out how to get the wireless phone charger to work
Another great review! Good job!
Thanks!
I just bought the N line Kona, and I love thos vehicle so much. But since it has a turbo, I wouldn't have to put premium gas in it?
I liie the top part of the grill, but I don't like that they did a mirror of it below.
Sick looking white color
Hey I just got my 2022 Hyundai Kona a few weeks ago in pulse red! I live in South Florida but was born in Allentown Pa! Are you in any of the Hyundai Kona groups on Facebook?
Where is the automatic liftgate? This so very handy feature is a real plus. Its got auto start why not auto lift. Short of that Iuv my Kona Ltd.
what i hated in hyundai dct gear is becoming hot at drivng slowly and some other issues ..strange why they could not add better cooling system to gear box making it live longer and much smoother
People used to make fun of the “Nissan juke “ because of the headlight situation, and 2021 And above it seems to be trending within design Of current SUVs,
I agree.
Superb detailed review as always, Drew! As much of a Toyota fan as I am, I have to admit that this Kona represents better value & practicality than the CHR. Lots of cargo space and I like that the Kona has a traditional geared 6 speed automatic transmission, no CVT! Not a big fan of the looks but that's a minor point for me.
This new has a CVT
@@ELP1125 I'm confused because in the video, Drew said it has a 6 speed automatic.
@@cpu1639 That's strange. Why do the base trims get the better transmission?
Base trims have cvt... Upgrade is 7 speed dual clutch
Herd the car idles bad sometimes?
Huge improvement.
I have 2022 kona Sel but I dislike there is no trunk release and its manual
I bought a 2022 on June 1. I'm in Canada and they're called 'essential' for the base model, then preferred...and so on. I got the preferred and it does have fog lights. Mentions them in the specifications and they can be seen at the extreme ends of the bottom grille.
Congrats on your preferred! Did you buy the Kona preferred AWD + sun/leather convenience package? I am looking to buy this convenience package with my 2022 Kona.
@@williamyqb Hi William. No, I opted for the FWD only. I'll put winter tires on it, which I have from the Elantra I traded. I do highway plowing in the winter so when I'm on the roads, they're generally good before I start and after I leave work. I'm also only 5 km. from the yard. Also, no to the sun/leather package. Just not something that interests me. I barely put 12k a year on my car. I'm off in the summer and have a pricy Harley touring bike that I ride almost daily. I've only put 400 km. on the Kona to date but I'm very pleased with all aspects of the vehicle and the abundance of safety features. If you get one, go for a ride and check the cruise control if it's something you intend on using often. Mine has a spread of 5 to 6 kph each side of the set speed. It's like the system lags adding power when climbing and it kind of forgets to shut off at the crest of a hill. I checked and found out that it wasn't a problem unique to mine. I had it back to the dealer and they said they could possibly try to recalibrate the radar but in the end, they said it wasn't doable. Not a huge issue for me but try the one you're actually buying first to make sure you're satisfied. Cheers and enjoy yours!
Does the seat go far back enough for someone who is 6'2? In the Santa Fe it didn't
Yes it does, iam 6 2 plenty of room
2022 Kona isn't available to "build" on the Hyundai website yet. Anyone know if the higher trim levels offer a 360 view camera, or a HUD like the Ultimate Trim Level did?
they are on the website now
@@williamyqb Thanks. 3 days ago I factory ordered a Toyota RAV4 Prime with all the options. Didn't get gouged too badly.
Great review Gold Pony! One of the first '22 kona reviews on youtube-- does the kona come with smart cruise + lane follow assist/Highway Driving Assist?
I have the Limited Trim and it does have those features. It also has automatic off and automatic hold.
@@cpu1639 how is the lane following assist/highway driving assist for keeping the car centered in its lane? Thanks!
@@R56Cooper It has 2 different modes. One mode has a sensor that warns you if you are getting close to the lane line but it doesn't move the steering wheel, the other one is an automatic lane centering system that actually moves the steering wheel to keep you centered. If lane lines are fading off or they just disappear, it will program a path based on the car in front of you. I only like this feature when I'm using smart cruise control because it also has a sensor that measures the distance of the car in front of you and lowers the speed by itself so you dont get too close. However, if you change lanes and there are no cars in front of you, it accelerates to reach the set speed.
@@cpu1639 thanks Enrique! Yes, I heard that Hyundai/Kia has one of the best lane centering systems of all car brands next to tesla!
hi
how is the suspension when riding on road with potholes/bumpy road?
is it comfortable?
Yes
Giambalvo Hyundai? Hmm, they'll make you an offer you can't refuse
I don't like the front on it just brought the venue much nicer grill!
☠️☠️☠️☠️ I prefer a six speed automatic over a garbage cvt anytime and any day , great review as always bro👍💪
Thanks!
Wilson, I watched a few other 2022 Kona videos and it seems the Kona does get a CVT, not a six speed automatic.
but damn hard to find thesedays, unfortunately manufs are always pushin' cvt's😕
Can you fit 4 people in there , and a baby seat , been total five people comfortable???
It’s exterior looks less busy, which is fine by me.
Very helpful review…thank you! I just purchased a 2022 Kona! Super excited!🙌🏻🙌🏻🙌🏻
Awesome SUV! Congrats!
@@goldpony Thank you so much!💜
Which trim did you get and how do you like it so far?
My main problem with the new Kona design is that it looks like they put two cars on top of each other and smashed them together. Two sets of headlights, two grills, and two sets of taillights. The color matched cladding on the N-Line and the fake hood grill mustache also looks really strange.
Yeah ikr🤣
Yeah it does
The spare tyre, if its the same as the down under version, it is about 37mm less in diameter so you drive with a "limp" to one side, [I substituted a 16 inch BA Falcon rim and 205/60/16 tyre]
N- *line* with Hyundai is basically the old sport trim. There is a full fledge Kona *N* coming soon. They have it running around Korea already.
Same engine and transmission options as VelosterN.
Honestly it looks as if only the front/ hood and bottom rear are remodeled. The controls, dash, infotainment, exterior sides and top rear/taillight area are the same as previous models. At most It's a partial remodel.
Because this is not a new gen; it's just a facelift.
@@leumamk5259 He does say "interior and exterior have been completely redone" @0:39
@@techpappee Well, he's wrong cuz this is not a new generation.
@@leumamk5259 that was my point. It's a facelift not a redesign. I'm sure he probably misspoke. I was only pointing it out so those who view the video are aware.
Can i order Premium version with 10inch screen instead of the 8inch?
It's a good review but some of his information is wrong.
I just bought a 22 kona sel with the convenience package 1700$ extra ..it comes with heated seats , leather wrapped steering wheel /shifter , power sunroof and climate control , he stated those features are only available for n line and limited trim packages. Overall good review but it sucks when you get told wrong information.
The plastic trim surrounding the bottom grill looks like the huge bottom teeth of Orcs in World of Warcraft. Long live the Horde!
To be honest the front kinda looks like the 2020 to 2021 Escape lol
Yep I see that too
I like the looks of the older Kona better. Yes I thought it looked a lot like the Escape too.
I was just about to comment that
@Aztec Fan1 Agreed well said!
@Aztec Fan1 That's not true, there's still cars that look unique and the previous Escape came out in 2013 as well.
Someone is a Ballimer kid! The accent is pure John Waters movie.
LOL Drew should have had a starring role in The Wire!
Hehe! 😁
I used to work very close to where they filmed The Wire actually 👍
@@goldpony That's cool! I've gone to Ritz strip club in Fells Point several times and I hadn't watched The Wire back then. Only years later did I realize that Ritz was Orlando's in The Wire!
How did you feel about the front camera (behind the rear view mirror).
I just took one for a test drive and the camera was bugging me as it cut into my peripheral vision (top right). It didn't seem to obstruct my view of the road and cars to the right, but it was a minor annoyance.
Just looking to gauge if others noticed this and if this was something that those who own a Kona got used to?
Thanks!
All Wheel Drive?
Every trim can add AWD for $1400
Stop doing leds with halogen. Come on Hyundai
Yeah ikr kinda messes up the look.
Idk, digging the older look of kona.
Question. Why do reviewers floor a car? Does it really matter how fast the car or SUV goes or takes off?.That Kona is not a racecar. Its a CUV.You want fast get a Cayenne or a Macan.
When you have a short on-ramp and are trying to merge onto a highway with ppl going 70mph... it matters! 😁
What an idiotic question. Wow.
The base price spiked quite a bit
Well the biggest change is you can’t get one unless you like white, in which case you might see one….!
The 2022 refresh looks better than the outgoing styling, but I still like the Mazda CX-30 better. Based on previous models, however, you have to wonder about the quality/craftmanship of the Hyundai/KIA engines.
They are phenomenal and shared for reasons of cost of development and parts and serviceability. It is a global issue, not just a North American thing.
I have the 2019 SEL and absolutely love it. I'm definitely not a fan of the new look, specifically the front grill and bumper. It is absolutely horrendous. Hopefully, they have a better design by the time I trade mine in. If not, I'll probably look at another vehicle, as I don't think I could ever get used to that bumper.
I have a 22 and I like the new look more but I do like the 19 also
It seems jeep designer is working for hyundai now!!!
I don't think Matt on carwow is going to like that front I must admit it doesn't look as good as previous model they ruined the i20 too and that is so cheap inside.
I think I’d still take the Mazda CX-30 as my top pick in this class.
I hope they redesign the CX-30. I hate how much plastic it has on its exterior 😔
@@issssi8071 So many comments about the CX-30 exterior cladding. But then there's CrossTrek, and -- this 🤔. I don't get it.
The cx30 sucks. No torque whatsoever unless you spend over 30k for the Turbo
The cx30 is pricier for the same specs,
S username, isn’t the cx30 engine at 186 HP much better than the Kona 2.0 147 HP?
Waiting on The N Line to come
I'm not. This whole "N Line" on every Hyundai vehicle seems kinda silly when you consider that the Kona is a boring family crossover, not a "race car". Plus the N line will be needlessly expensive, the SEL is the sweet spot in the line-up.
Should be fun! Kinda wish it was getting AWD tho. 😕
@@braetonwilson4296 most like having options. Have you heard about the awful Toyota Corolla Apex? Nobody likes that!
@@2004cyrus awful? It's a limited production vehicle that handles extremely well.
Not good for me as everything is perfect in the SEL edition but for the driver's seat that has no power and the manual seat adjustments require strength and if I can manage then it could trigger back pain, oh and that power adjust lumber would be sooo Welcome. But now I am left with only two choices: Upgrade to the N level costing how much ??? more just for necessary seating? Or move on to another vehicle. This is all very upsetting because year after year auto manufacturers always overlook the importance of a power driver's seat. Some folks really need this -- to them its a necessity. Also it's a safety issue if the driver is seating too low. Yet year after year I'm sure there are a certain number of people who are injured or die unnecessarily due to this chronic automotive negligent mindset. UPDATE The cost to upgrade to the N edition including sales tax is a Whopping $2,932.19 This is insanity. Like all the people who designed this car are average or Tall in height ? Don't think so.
Dude, just buy a bigger car. This is basically the smallest cheapest car in the brand.
The text background didn't let me see anything 😡
The regular trim models are nasty..looks like a mini version of old 2005 Tucson esp in red with all that black cladding...🤮... now the N line on the other hand...what a gorgeous rally style car🤓...unfortunately ridiculously priced though.
It’s kinda ugly, wish they did some variation of 2022 Tucson design at the front that design is so sexy
This is looking more and more like a car, not an SUV
Hold off with your Kona interest, people. Big recall on a slew of Hyundai/KIAs in built within the past five years that has the standard 2.0 engine. The whole engine may have to be replaced due to a fire risk. If you just bought one like my friend just did two weeks ago, you may have to your engine replaced already.
@Aztec Fan1 LOL. You sound not bright.
@Aztec Fan1 Dude they have been issues with their engines catching on fire for awhile. I wouldn't touch Hyundai/Kia.
Never heard of a Korean motor catching on fire, must be true but can’t be thaaaaat dangerous.
I’ll keep my Volkswagen Tiguan
Tiguan engine is below average but the transmission is way below average.
@@suserman7775 I’m on my second one. You may be correct but in my experience the 8-speed has been smith and fuel efficient. No complaints on my 2012 or my 2019. Thank goodness. The warranty is long and I haven’t had to use it. I have 146,000 miles on the old one and 60,450 tonight on the 2019. If they give me problems I will sell or trade. I’ve also had 2 Jetta’s and a 2009 CC Coupe. No issues with them at high mileage either. I would like a Volvo XC 60 or 90 but hear they are in the shop all the time. What has your experience been with VW? I will get an Atlas next year. I do agree that the engine is a little under powered. But, the torque helps a lot on mine and the turbo kicks in and they do well. Tiguan are not Golf R’s obviously. Moms & Dads like me haul family, pets, and cargo around and the Tiguans are comfortable and quiet and I get good fuel economy.
@@2004cyrus I had a manual GTI that never gave me a problem.
The Tiguan has engine warnings every 3 months complaining of low engine oil. Transmission shifts erratically. And engine hesitates. The Tiguan does have a smooth ride once the transmission is in top gear. We have used the 3rd row like once every 12 months. Not worth it. I currently have a reservation on an ID4 but may cancel it before it arrives.
@@suserman7775 oh wow that is awful I’m so sorry I would drive my Tiguan over a cliff if it did that. I’m not one to keep a crappy vehicle. I’m not loyal to a brand so if I have a crap car I’ll tell everyone and I won’t go back. But quite the opposite for me! I’ve recommend tiguans to everyone I know who needs an affordable compact suv 3 row or two. I’ll never use my 3rd row so I have the cargo area with that row down. 2 relatives and 2 close friends have night Tiguans on my recommendation and so far no problems. Albeit, none of them have over 70k miles on their Tiguans yet. Thank goodness for long warranty on my 2019. Not sure what lol replace them with other than an atlas maybe if reliability holds out. Otherwise I’ll go to Mazda CX-5 or CX-9. What year is your Tiguan? I’m surprised you’ve kept it! Have you gotten it appraised lately since used cars are catching mint?
@@2004cyrus It's a 2018 and I did just have it appraised last week on Carvana. They offered me 20k when my lease buyout in 3 months is 16k !
I'll try to leverage some of that 4k "equity" into the next vehicle.
I test drove the Atlas, Sorrento, CX9, and Tucson Hybrid. They all have their pros and cons. The best drive was the CX9 with the TH coming in a close second. The Atlas had a floaty lumbering feel and its big size wasn't needed 99 percent of the time. The Sorrento base engine was completely inadequate and the Turbo was pricy and only has captain chairs in the 2nd row. The overall winner because of power, ride, tech and price was the TH so that's what I'll pursue.
Its an egg now
Damn, they really messed up the front. The rest looks nice though.
I like the old one's look a lot better, I actually dislike this new one
The 2021 front grille is WAY better looking than the 2022.
I don't understand why Hyundai is ruining the designs
Hyundai dropped the ball with this redesign.and a CVT ? 👎🏾
2018-2021 was the best design.
People are better off buying the Venue, the Kona is well over priced it's not as attractive as the Venue, and it's under powered.
The 2.0NA is too underpowered, with too little torque, especially down low, especially with the AWD.
Yep it's the same 2.0 engine found in the Elantra except the Elantra is several hundred pounds lighter than the Kona. So while it's adequate for the Elantra, not so much for the Kona.
@@braetonwilson4296 I have driven the Elantra with the 2.0NA, and it is barely adequate. I definitely would not buy a Kona with it.
@@digitaldoc100 Well that sucks. I was considering a 2022 Kona with the 2.0 engine.
@@thundergato84 save up a little money and get the Turbo.
@@braetonwilson4296 In Australia the Kona has a 110KW Atkinson cycle engine and the Elantra has 120kw standard configuration engine but I own the new Kona as tested and I find the performance more than capable in the 2WD format --It is not a race car and cruising at 100 to 105 KPH I return 5.5 to 6.0 litres per 100 KLM--Can't wish for better. Combined with Hyundai CVT (Hyundai IVT) --they go together quite well.
You should note I am not an old grand dad that uses the car to church only a my toy is a Mazda MX5
i didn't think it was possible to make a car any uglier. It looks like it's eyes are closed lol.
I didn’t think the Kona could get any uglier but Hyundai proved me wrong 😑 🤮
Very ugly. Previous model was amazing . This with that big black mask in frond. Is just ridiculous
