@@SquarePegsThe cards were meant to be lower cost games. There were more released in Japan and I don't think Sega of America ever bought into the whole low cost thing. Which is probably for the better. We were just coming off the video game crash and they didn't want people to perceive them as low quality. Most of the card games were good. I had a few. Transbot, although short, is a decent shooter. Teddy boy was a good platformer. And spy vs spy was fun _once you figured it out._ Before that it was frustrating AF. F16 fighting falcon was probably the most _interesting_ card game. I bet most people (including me) absolutely HATE the game. It just feels broken. And the reason for that is that the game had a special controller that was _required_ to play it, although the controller was never released in the USA. (Not that we knew that in 1988). To compensate, some of the controls were put on the player 2 gamepad. Of course, nobody knew this either. But even if you did, it still lacked a full functioning set of controls. I believe in Japan they had a qwerty keyboard accessory that was needed. Japan had a lot more card games than we got. They never had a videogame crash, so having a lower cost option wasn't seen as a bad thing. And games that perhaps didn't justify a full price release were sold on cards. From an Amstrad CPC 464 this was a big leap in terms of graphics and gameplay despite still being 8 bit!! Very cool, thanks John. Love seeing a whole set plus the peripherals. Like many, I knew one guy that had one growing up and it blew my mind that there was a hidden Snail Maze game on the system (at least his variant). Altered Beast was quickly a favourite to play.

Such a great vid John. I got a master system not too long ago, maybe 2 years ago. Such a great system with a good selection of games. This has the definitive version of Ghostbusters, in my opinion. 👍

Not sure if I'm going to spring for the James Buster Douglas or a UPC Sonic but it's definitely my favorite system to play and collect for! You should go for a Pal set as well. So many more games over there! I want to go back to the UK just so I can get some new games haha! Great video. Thanks for sharing!
Guess you probably know it, John, but here in Brazil the Sega Master System had a long and successfull life. We had some great oficial releases like Mortal Kombat I, II and III and a Brazilian version of Street Fighter II. I heard they are very collectible in North America.

John, I enjoyed the video. You're not bragging, you're sharing. My memories of the Master System mainly involve Double Dragon and Hang-On. At the time, Double Dragon seemed awesome, but playing as an adult reveals it's awful. Hang On is still enjoyable, though.
