    Masterfully done. It is a great system that really doesn't get enough love.
    I only started collecting for and learning about the Master a few years ago but I have loved it. Some really fun games outside of the well known ones you have Action Fighter, the Disney games, Golvellius, Kenseiden, Miracle Warriors, and the list just gets better if you add in stuff from outside the U.S.

    Amazing collection. My favourite Master System game, and probably the best in the system is Wonderboy 3 The Dragon's Trap. I realize seeing your collection that many great games for the Master System were not released in the US. Great video. Thank you. It brings back very happy memories, like beating the wonderful Master System version of RType. Nowadays I cannot even beat the first boss.

    I never had a "real" master system, just the addon for the Genesis/Mega drive, but even back then i was always surprised how good master sytem games looked, even tho they were the "previous generation" and especially compared to the NES, which was it's direct rival back then. That original 80's look of the console is pretty cool, i think. Thanks for showing Your collection to us ^_^

      @@johnhancockretro Out of curiosity - what's the significance of the ones marked 'The Sega Card'? Just a different medium?

    • @herranton
      @herranton 4 месяца назад +1

      @@SquarePegsThe cards were meant to be lower cost games. There were more released in Japan and I don't think Sega of America ever bought into the whole low cost thing. Which is probably for the better. We were just coming off the video game crash and they didn't want people to perceive them as low quality.
      Most of the card games were good. I had a few. Transbot, although short, is a decent shooter. Teddy boy was a good platformer. And spy vs spy was fun _once you figured it out._ Before that it was frustrating AF.
      F16 fighting falcon was probably the most _interesting_ card game. I bet most people (including me) absolutely HATE the game. It just feels broken. And the reason for that is that the game had a special controller that was _required_ to play it, although the controller was never released in the USA. (Not that we knew that in 1988). To compensate, some of the controls were put on the player 2 gamepad. Of course, nobody knew this either. But even if you did, it still lacked a full functioning set of controls. I believe in Japan they had a qwerty keyboard accessory that was needed.
      Japan had a lot more card games than we got. They never had a videogame crash, so having a lower cost option wasn't seen as a bad thing. And games that perhaps didn't justify a full price release were sold on cards.
      Weirdly, the card slot on the master system was also used to plug in the 3d glasses. And the 3d effect was _shockingly_ good. I believe they are active shutter glasses. It's too bad the games that use it are all pretty mediocre.
      Haha. Sorry. I didn't mean to ramble. And I realize this is a response to a 3 year old question. But if anyone else sees it, here is the answer...
      Thanks for coming to my Ted talk...

From an Amstrad CPC 464 this was a big leap in terms of graphics and gameplay despite still being 8 bit!! But wow, we didnt have the nes in the uk at that time or at least I dont remember it being around mainstream so this was where it was at. The games I had at the time were Out run!, R-type and Rocky. @@johnhancockretro gotcha. I knew about the Sonic UPC variant but didn't know about Spider man or Strider. Thank you sir. Either I'm not looking in the right places or it's very tough to find a good complete list of US SMS games. I'll just use this video as a reference going forward 👍
