My favorite memory of the Turbo Grafx 16 was having friends over and showing them the intro to Y's Book I & II. They were totally blown away, we had never seen anything like that from a video game before.
I was entranced by Bonk, the marketing, name, colors, etc. I remember seeing the display for it at Toys R Us and being spellbound. Ended up getting one and I was the only kid I knew with one.
Beautiful collection you got there John. So many amazing Shmups for the system and the Super Grafx console just blows my mind every-time I see it. Its like something out of an Alien movie. Love it.
TGfx / PC-E Probably the greatest retro game console ever made, so awesome graphics and great quality sound. Its like an 16bit NES. So many great games. U can even emulate the games with better and smother graphics.
I'm a Sega Genesis man myself because that's what my brother and I had as kids/teenagers. But, I really like the Turbo Grafx-16 too. One of my favourite memories growing up was when one of my brothers friends (who had a Turbo Grafx-16) would bring it over and we'd spend the weekend alternating between the two consoles (Sega Genesis & Turbo Grafx-16). One of my favourite games in his collection was Legendary Axe.
I remember back in 1992 when I was in 4th grade, my school had a huge candy selling contest and the winner would get a gift certificate to Toys R Us. The certificate was for $200.00 in "Geoffrey Bucks" (Or was it Geoffrey Dollars?) as they were called way back. So, I made it my goal to obliterate every other kid in the school in candy sales...and I won!!! I knew when I won that I was finally going to get the Turbo Grafx 16, those commercials drove kid me crazy lol. I remember when I went to TRU to get my goods, I got the system itself which came with Keith Courage in Alpha Zones. I also had enough to get Bonk's Adventure as well as Bonk's Revenge. That was easily one the best and happiest days of my childhood. Thanks for this video John, it brought back a lot of happy memories :)
Dragon Spirit... That game alone is enough for me to want one. I have the NES kart, but when the Wii came out I bought the TG-16 version online... And it's so much better! Still play it, still love it!
Wow! I'm a huge TurboGrafx-16 fan, John. In fact, YouTubing Turbo content is how I found you in the first place. Along with Metal Jesus Rocks, Bit-Head 1000, Johnny the Happy Console Gamer, and on and on. Love your collection, I have a lot of those myself. I have a few Turbo Sticks, used but clean in boxes if you ever need one of those :) I can't play Ys Book 1 & 2 any other way! Keep up the great content, the more Turbo the better!
Awesome system! I got mine for birthday/Christmas ‘1990 and still have it til this day. A few of my favorite games: Legendary Axe, Tales Spin, Bonk and Splatterhouse!
seeing this all in one video is INSANE this collection is literally legendary i have pc engine cd and turbographx however i use burned discs and everdrives simply amazing system VERY underrated
i'd not heard of the turbografx back in the day, however i discovered it more recently via emulation and its a cracking little console and the graphics are very good for its time. congrats on the full set john !
I never had a Turbografx-16, but my uncle did, and I usually got to play his games when I visited him. He had a lot of games, but the only ones I specifically remember were Bonk's Adventure, Bonk's Revenge, Neutopia, Devil's Crush, and Disney's TailSpin. This was the early 90's when I was just a little kid and I was shocked to learn that all along there was a 3rd player among the game consoles besides just Sega and Nintendo. (I had never heard of 3DO or Atari Jaguar at the time) I will be getting the Turbografx-16 Mini, and I can't wait to show it to my uncle.
Kicking myself for selling my Turbo Duo and Turbo Express with all original boxes and packaging years ago, argh! Regret the sale not for financial reasons, but for the nostalgia and memories.
The pc engine/Turbografx is my favourite video game system and I’m looking forward to loads of people being able to enjoy it with the release of the mini system. Cheers for the video and keep on gaming 👍
Galaga '90....I loved that game. Lots of excellent shooters, I like of a lot of other 90's kids sold off their systems when you couldn't get anymore games. It's the one system i regret getting rid of, not because of the little money i got for it at the time but the memories I had with it.
I too had this system as a youth. Many of my friends were unaware of the TG 16 as NES and Genesis was the wave before the Snes. Anyhow, my library wasn't as great as yours. Bonk and Bonks Revenge. Legendary Axe, Vigilante (one of my favorites), Keith Courage of course (was my pack in) and then there was China Warrior and even worse, Pac Land. Total duds. Anyhow, what's left of my TG16 is the core system, no controller, no power cord and maybe the box. Nearly 2 decades ago I did purchase SF 2 for the PC Engine in hopes of moding my system and picking up a 6 button controller, however that never happened. Lol. Great video. Thank you for the content.
Picked up my first TG-16 last week. Came with Legendary axe and a few other games. Never had one growing up and have had a lot of fun with it so far. Looking forward to the mini so I can check out some games that are out of my price range.
TG-16 is one of those sexy looking consoles...And like you said, it's got great games. I don't have one, but I have a collection of TG-16 games on my Retropie...Good stuff! Love watching your channel, IJH. I always get to see some of the alternate consoles and accessories for systems that I never knew existed!
I picked up a TG16 a few years ago without researching the cost of games, to my chagrin. I just picked up Space Harrier, Bonks Adventure and Bonks Revenge this past month and love it. Unfortunately whoever had the console modded it for A/V and it’s got some static issues. Definitely getting the mini and may try to resolve my static issues and trade in for a Vectrex.
I love the TG16, I was basically the kid in my hometown that would not shut up about this console while everyone was playing the NES or SNES :P, cannot wait for the TG16 mini
So excited for the Turbografx mini because this is a system that's always been kind of mythical to me. I just never saw one back in the day, it was all SNES and Genesis. As a shmup fan I'm excited to finally get the opportunity to experience this thing without breaking the bank. Fingers crossed that the emulation is good and we don't get another Playstation Mini.
Favorite Game: Rondo of Blood. Yes I was waiting for this video! Oh boy did I get started late with collecting for this sytem but have a full working og TG16 of my brothers with a working Cd rom! About 20 games so far and last two cards were Adventure Island and Bloody Wolf...there were so many great shooters on her and happy to see a mini comming. I just wish there were a few more sports titlea..weird for ME to say that even though the ones on here were decently fun. Happiest Ive been today watching thanks John!
Yeah I'm impressed with home brew hucard we need alot more new ones Nice collection. I just ordered Street Fighter 2 Pc-engine and Kisado converter to play the north American Turbografx-16 witch is my favorite designed console. I played Turbografx-16 first in 1992 and had one. And it was killing NES in graphics and sounds TG-16 even had doped my brain up 💉🧠 every time I played it when was 14 years old, it sure did feel different! Lot of memories for sure. Because of you Immortal you are the reason I invested on Street Fighter 2...PC-ENGINE when you did a duel show with RGB 85 🙏🏻☯️🥶‼
Thanks for the video with all the information on the system. I bought a base system back in the 90’s and a few games. Later in the 90’s when the company went out of business a local game store was selling base turbo graft systems for $5 and games for $1. I bought 4 used base systems and a lot of the games. NEC Technologies was 20 minutes from where I lived and I used to go there and play games before they were released in return for filling out a survey giving an opinion about the game I played. . One time they even gave me my favorite game for the system, Neutopia II. I still have the game factory sealed in the box. They also gave me some promotional material which consisted of 5 by 7 inch cards which had the artwork of the box of the game and a written description of the game. I still have these cards too. It is interesting to find out now that some of the games are worth over $100 now because I remember seeing those turbo graft game cards for $1 in used game bins at small game stores in the 90’s. Back then you could also buy a converter that attached to the Turbo Grafx that played PC Engine games. I bought a lot of those too for $1 back in the late 90’s at small game stores with used games...
It must feel great to be able to have a 100% complete collection of a game console. Granted, the next best thing would be to have a factory sealed 100% collection, but that'd be way too expensive and maybe impossible for older game consoles. Honestly, I think it would be great if these games were all compiled and released on PS4, Switch, and X1.
Great video John! I love the Turbografx 16 and have a small collection of games for it along with the (region free) Japanese version of the cd unit and a few cd games.
I have been collecting on and off since the 90’s like yourself. My favorite games are the Ys series, Bonk series, most shooters, the Valis series, Chase HQ and S.C.I., Last Alert, Dracula X Rhonda of Blood, and the Sherlock Holmes series.
I never owned a Turbografx as a kid. I knew about it from game magazines but never thought much of it until years later when I read a Game Informer issue featuring a list of good Turbografx games. The main game that caught my attention was Ys Book I and II, since I had played Ys III on my Super Nintendo as a kid and liked that game. As soon as Ys Book I and II came to the Wii Virtual Console I bought it. Awesome game, and my favorite on the system. Since then I bought a modded PC-Engine Duo RX and a small collection of games, including Neutopia, Legendary Axe and Ys I and II and III. This is an awesome system but way too expensive!
im so glad i only collect PC Engine games, TG16 is soooo hard to collect for. I've never actually seen any in the wild here in Wisconsin and i never even heard of it growing up. I don't think it was even marketed at all in my state.
The TurboGrafx is probably the most interesting console to me. The whole Hu Card/CD thing always confused me because I've never owned/played/or really even seen one in person. Very cool video though.
I used to have a turbo grafx 16 which my best friend gave me when i was 21 years old back in 2015 it came with pac land bonks adventure and alien crush. But traded it in Milwaukee last year i bought a pc engine duo system only on Wednesday from Japan for $197 I'm pretty excited to have a pc engine duo along with playing a lot of cd and super cd games i even have a flash card from hong kong that'll work on my pc engine duo works pretty well. Best regards Nikita.K
i think this problem is blown out of proportion honestly, if the games arent stored in a humid hot/cold garage for years then your discs are gonna do fine. if you're feelin worried rip an ISO or two as a backup
I'm pretty excited for the mini console. Over here in the PAL region we never got the CD attachment, (and our PAL console can't use it) so there are a ton of games I've missed out on that I'd love to play!
Amazing collection! I've always been a tg fan, but it's just too difficult and expensive to collect today. Seeing the set was really fun! I'll be getting the mini for sure. I do have to mention what my wife just said about the music though... Is he playing a 80s porno in the background? Lol great vid!
Hi john , excellent video , my collection is all Japanese , R-Type got me started with a PC Engine in 1988 & still playing ! I expect you may well be aware of this already but if you have a search for PCE Works you can find all of their repro collections & individual titles - all clearly marked as such & not pretending to be originals - some great items and maybe easier than searching them out through eBay etc.
The TG-16 was the first system I bought with my own money. I wanted it over the Genesis and Super NES because I wasn't a bandwagon jumper. I wanted the underdog! I bought Legend of Hero Tonma back in the mid-90s for $20, and I still have it (along with most of the games I had) and it wasn't until about 2 years ago when I learned what it is now worth. I was shocked because it's a game I thought was terrible (mostly because I sucked at it) My brother used to chastise me because he thought the system sucked, and questioned why I bought it. I recently told him what my TG-16 collection is worth, and he refuses to believe me lol
Tg16 was the first console I ever owned. My buddy got the turbo Express. When my console broke, I stole him all my games so I could at least continue to enjoy them. I bought a Genesis with that money for Herzog Zwei. No I play tg on my PSP go.
I still have 2 turbo grafx systems working with about 25 games. I really love the system it’s hard to let go of. I have a boxed turbo stick that I noticed you didn’t have. I don’t ever use it if you are interested?
Wait...does that mean I actually have a retro console game that John Hancock doesn't? (Super Raiden [Japan-only CD]) Holy crap. Normally I stick to NA games but the Turbo/CD had a massive amount of its library only release in Japan. In all seriousness, that is a crazy collection, kudos to you. I recently fell in love with this console and have a Duo but boy do these games cost an arm and a leg. Will probably be picking up the Mini.
A-freanking-MAZIN thaks for sharing! Btw, tg16 never sold in my country so i have no nostalgia for it, yet i palyed many games on an emulation, and it great system i can see y you like it so much, also, to this day, best versions of bomberman (except the saturn) are on tg16!
I just wish it would've caught on like it did in Japan!!! It would've been a great 16 bit generation here in the states if it did!!!! Still my favorite console of all time!!!!
Love your turbo graphics 16 collection it always makes my day everytime I watch your videos over and over again brings me way back to my childhood just so curious how much money have you invested in your turbo graphics 16 stuff not including the Japanese imports
Hi John, hope all is well and keep the vids goin! I have a few TG16 Turbo Pads and I notice a slight difference in one of them towards the others, would you know why? The thickness of the lettering is different between the two, on the back of one it has “HES-PAD-01” and the others don’t. Other than that, on the HES-PAD-01, the buttons are slightly darker than the other. The boards on the insides are different as well. Maybe some are revisions?? I was just wondering if you know why these sre different. Thanks for any info!
Awesome! I have a couple turbo grafx 16 games.. pretty fun console! I will get the mini when it comes out for sure! Just awesome videos! Lovin' it! Do you have a complete ds collection? I am wondering about a game i found called hoppie on nintendo ds.. i can't find anything about this game other than it was on ps2 i think.. is it uncommon?
Man I've never seen the covers for these titles as I only play them emulated. Thanks so much for sharing. Yeh the cover art has given me a whole new appreciation for them cause when u see them bunched together in a list, just the names, dunno, I thought ohh these games aren't that great but some covers actually make them look not budget or anything. Dunno. I mean like u said alot of it isn't great but some is awesome. I might have to include cover art in Retroarch when I play the roms. I'm getting the mini forsure!!!!
Does anyone know of a game on TG-16 where you were in a robotic suit and dropped out of an aircraft and you shoot enemies on your way down to the ground? I think it was on turbo graphics at least.
Great console, too bad it was not better marketed in more areas of the US, as I think it would have sold better, and more so if they had come out with the DUO from the get go.
I am gonna get a mini for sure!
Oh definitely! I want a TG-16, but the price of the system and games for it is insane!

That’s one impressive collection of TG16. Thanks for sharing this with us. Now I have to buy a TurboGrafix mini when it releases.
Great set up, it's always great to see other TG-16 collectors out there.
Always wanted the Turbo Graphx 16 but I’ll wait to get the mini!
Beautiful collection you got there John.
So many amazing Shmups for the system and the Super Grafx console just blows my mind every-time I see it. Its like something out of an Alien movie. Love it.
Military Madness is still my favorite on the TG16.
One of my all time favorite systems!! Had this when it first came out and loved it!!
TGfx / PC-E Probably the greatest retro game console ever made, so awesome graphics and great quality sound. Its like an 16bit NES. So many great games. U can even emulate the games with better and smother graphics.
Musslan best console of the mid-late 80s and arguably early 90s

I remember back in 1992 when I was in 4th grade, my school had a huge candy selling contest and the winner would get a gift certificate to Toys R Us. The certificate was for $200.00 in "Geoffrey Bucks" (Or was it Geoffrey Dollars?) as they were called way back. So, I made it my goal to obliterate every other kid in the school in candy sales...and I won!!! I knew when I won that I was finally going to get the Turbo Grafx 16, those commercials drove kid me crazy lol. This is really cool thanks for taking the time and laying everything out to show us.
Congratulations on your collection and thanks for sharing it with us! Love your style!
World Class Baseball is a great baseball game.
Dragon Spirit... That game alone is enough for me to want one. I have the NES kart, but when the Wii came out I bought the TG-16 version online... And it's so much better! Still play it, still love it!

this collection is literally legendary
i have pc engine cd and turbographx

VERY underrated
Thanks for showing. Back then, I heard about it in magazine. But I've never seen anyone has it.
Nice collection and thank u for showing the turbo grafix treasures.
i'd not heard of the turbografx back in the day, however i discovered it more recently via emulation and its a cracking little console and the graphics are very good for its time. congrats on the full set john !
Its a tough call, but I love Lords of Thunder and Dracula X of course. I also was lucky enough to find HuCards of Gradius, Salamander and Prodius.
Those are some fun shooters!
Of course you have a complete tg16 collection! Holy smokes
I never had a Turbografx-16, but my uncle did, and I usually got to play his games when I visited him. Double Dragon II and Dracula X are my favorites from this console, congratulations on the collection!
Used to have th Japanese PC engine upon release. Great games. Mr Heli, Atomic Robo-kid, Chan and Chan, Batman, F1, Good times
I have a US turbo duo, 35 Hu Card games and 11 CD games. Still looking for some CD games but not alot of card games on my wishlist left
This is probably the only system I've never owned that I still want. It's probably way out of my price range now but...a man can dream.

Bloody Wolf.
My top 3 TG-16 games of all time.

@wizzgamer
Thats why this is specifically a TG16 ann’y video (released 1989 in US), and not a PCE video 😉
@@Gappasaurus There the same console just under another name. That's like saying the Mega Drive and Genesis are 2 different consoles.

It must feel great to be able to have a 100% complete collection of a game console. Granted, the next best thing would be to have a factory sealed 100% collection, but that'd be way too expensive and maybe impossible for older game consoles.

Impressive collection. I have them all on my modded original Xbox
The hue card was pretty ahead of it's time in the early 90's compare to pc floppy disk game and Nintendo cartridge
If i somehow come into money i will build the museum, it needs to happen!
I was shocked because it's a game I thought was terrible (mostly because I sucked at it)
My brother used to chastise me because he thought the system sucked, and questioned why I bought it.
Always wanted a TG-16 (are you listening Analogue?!)
.Awesome video! Thank you for sharing.
PS. You are still using the wrong intro 😊
Cool looking cartridges.
Was a fun system!
I just wish it would've caught on like it did in Japan!!! It would've been a great 16 bit generation here in the states if it did!!!! Still my favorite console of all time!!!!
The stores I remember that sold Turbografx games were Video Concept,Toys R Us, and Walden Software.John how much in total was Magical Chase?
Nice! Nice! Nice! Perfectly Awesome!!
Maybe this all will go in the museum 😂😂
Great video
Love your turbo graphics 16 collection it always makes my day everytime I watch your videos over and over again brings me way back to my childhood just so curious how much money have you invested in your turbo graphics 16 stuff not including the Japanese imports
No idea, bought stuff over 20 years
I bought tg16 Christmas 93 for 20.00 at toys r us on clearance I couldn't believe it i was like 12
Hi John, hope all is well and keep the vids goin!
Amazing video ,I played bonk
How much will be the mini? I might have to get one:)
Hey i'm a huge fan of 16-bit era snes and genesis are my favourites btw your videos are cool as heck
Nice keep up the good work 👍
hey you got a new sub
Can you sub to my RUclips channel as well
One word WOW!
Great collection think I’m missing about 6 cib 👍🏻👍🏻
Does anyone know of a game on TG-16 where you were in a robotic suit and dropped out of an aircraft and you shoot enemies on your way down to the ground? I think it was on turbo graphics at least.
Great console, too bad it was not better marketed in more areas of the US, as I think it would have sold better, and more so if they had come out with the DUO from the get go.
Great vid as always John. Is there a difference in the lords of thunder on this and Sega cd?
