I like when subie or any other person that own a turbo Japanese car, talk about the RS. Too many people starting YT channels that dont know the basics when talking on cam.
For anyone interested I just did this mod. The top studs on the heat shield will come out with a 1/4 inch regular hex socket (not 12 point) or a 6mm 12 point. The T30 hex was pretty easy on my car, I got it out from the bottom with a T30 tip in a ratchet. You can use a bike pump to easily extend the actuator arm once it is set to the correct preload (4 turns). Honestly, the hardest part was getting the heat shield out once i had it all undone. I think it bent a bit, but nothing permanent. Other than that it was pretty straightforward 👍🏻👍🏻

you can't just mark the wipers, you have to turn the wiper switch on and then turn it off and leave them in the park position with the key on and that keeps both wiper motors locked or other wise the wipers will go on where ever you put them and they will never be in the right spot plus you dont have to take off those triangle covers, also it makes it easier to take the wiper arms off if you leave them flat on the windshield and just push and pull at the hinge till the pop loose
Thanks for this video! I just installed it on my RS. Before I drove it home I flashed the car back to stock. I noticed I had no boost pressure and the “ ENGINE FAULT SERVICE NOW” popped up on the dash. Is this because it hasn’t been pro tuned yet???I have an appointment for my pro tune soon.
Why a new WG actuator? This has EBCS, right? Just use a tuning solution to set the base WGDC table higher and adjust the wastegate dynamics tables. Or was the stock EBCS already maxed out with the preload of the stock WG actuator? Point of clarification: EBCS'es give you far better boost control than simply throwing on an upgraded WG actuator and simply run spring pressure. For comparison, my boost varies between 14 and 25psi on my upgraded turbo Mazdaspeed 3, depending on what gear I'm in, and what point of the powerband. EBCS >>> simply spring pressure any day of the week.
Always better this and better that....It's like building computers, you can get a 350 dollar CPU and a 999 dollar cpu, the difference, MARGINALLLY faster at best. You can get a 200 dollar motherboard or a 450 dollar motherboard, the difference, about 3 Mhz with extreme fine tuning.....Totally NOT worth it.

Michael Harris basically it need to be tight so you have to pull on it to make sure it's tight that way the waste gate door will stay firmly shut. Hope that helps.
SCUG I would highly recommend it as you will not gain any power from this modification without a pro tune and a accessport. Accessport should be your first mod for power.

I just bought one. My turbo is still stock and some ppl say I don't need it unless I upgrade my turbo and some ppl say it'll make my boost more consistent and linear through the rpm range with the own turbo. Any thoughts?

Jonathan Llanes I used a 1/4 ratchet and extention to get to it from the top. You can also access it from the bottom. All depends on you and your tools
Everyone knows the external wastegates are the way to go! Just to much restriction With the recirculating wastegate. You can really get into real boost in the focus RS with a external wastegate
Remember to dyno "hood closed" guys. It's the only proper way to get realistic dyno numbers and no false cooling, or letting all that heat escape up into the air. You want to replicate driving the car, and so that means closed hood, which will be close to simulated actual airflow over & through the engine. Open hood dynos are good for parked cars and bragging. You don't drive down the road hood open, so why dyno that way. Nuff said.
good job ford....I can have the turbo out of my genesis in 15 minutes. swapping the waste gate would take 45 seconds. nice car but looks terrible to work on. good engineering there....

That T30 is the hardest bolt I ever tried to get off. Did you just use a ratchet?
I think that paint on the rod is for the techs to tell if someone messes with it, was the same deal on my Chevy Cruze .
If you turn on the ignition when u remove the wiper. The motors hold the arms in place 👍🏾

I see the factory wastegate is adjustable I would've loved to of seen what two or three turns to the factory gate would have done to the cars power.
I have actually maxed out my wastegate on my st and I have a straight line of torque from 2600 rpm to 4700 rpm. doesn't fall down from 2600 anymore
SRT4 turbo is in the back too. What a damn pain in the rear to do anything with the turbo and the actuator
It's much easier to do it up on a lift, remove the wheel and it's really really easy access

I would use a regular bolt in place of the torx on the bottom. In a few years that's not coming off without some swearing.

I don't understand why they would put a torx srew/bolt on a heat shield.
with full bolts on I have and just cobb tuning I'm getting 280. but I feel the boost a lot quicker , thats for sure.

Sounds like your wastegate door maybe open. You need to give the door pre load.
I think the wastegate valve hits the heat shield because at low rpms it feels good. I feel that the car is now slower when i go full throttle
