That's a MAP (manifold air pressure) sensor that measures the boost level at its location, and also the boosted air temperature. I have a Mazdaspeed 3 that runs one that looks identical. I upgraded from the stock 2.5-BAR to a 3-BAR because I'm running an upgraded turbo @ 25psi. The stock 2.5-BAR can only "see" up to about 22psi, so it was a necessary upgrade. The units are made by BOSCH, IIRC.
yup. the BALT SS has that MOD to for the BS GMS1 tune. so you can get accurate BOOST readings from the MAP Sensors. only problem is all the dealers fckd the MOD by crimping the new SENSORS and not soldering them.
Its amazing how much plastic is on modern cars that needs to be removed in order to get to something. (My '90 Corrado has factory brake ducting that looks exactly like the RS's; a small fact there that I'm sure no one cares about... lol)
So much work just to get to the intercooler! Doing it on my Evo was legitimately just removing the bumper and swapping them. Still love the RS and these videos though!
damn dude i love those air directors for the brakes.. wish my WRX had that. i know they do sell a couple flaps like that for my car, but they're way too expensive.
Why not cut a hole in the undertray to access oil filter and drain pan bolt? Using something like a Fumoto valve so you can connect a hose and drain oil easily.
Well the reason a belly pan is there is to prevent road debris from coming up. The vents just allow air flow up to help with cooling and an extra hole would not affect cooling of (in fact it would increase cooling as you have more air). Another option is the piece that is cut away could be reinstalled using a piano hinge system so you can open/close at your leisure for oil changes. Your shop vehicle might not see a lot of mileage to warrant that but normal daily drivers might be interested to see something like that.
I have bought the same intercooler but can't get to put my bumper in properly. The intercooler hits the back of my bar and my bumper won't fit properly. Any help?
i love the video. thanks guys! I dont wanna sound like a dick but the hot side of the turbo is the exhaust portion, but being a mechanic myself I knew you meant the hot side of the charge-air-cooler. also the name of that gunmetal color with the bluish tint is called anthracite, just incase anyone was looking for that color. keep up the good work!
Which one of you has the Crank ring tone? I've had that ring tone on every phone I've owned since the movie came out. After 10 years with the same ring tone I hear it in noises without my phone even ringing. I seriously thought it was my phone when it went off on the video.
I would just keep stock fmic and make it run on e85 or have a meth injection kit to not have to upgrade it. It is a nice size and the larger core=more lag. So unless you are doing a turbo upgrade it is kinda pointless. Plus all those tabs and plumbing look horrid to preform.
why did you remove the OEM intercooler tho ? It's already over efficient stock , they had to add a plate to block air coming into it because it was so good
Ford saying that the intercooler was overly efficient was stretching the truth a lot. You can see in a previous video that the charge air temps climb very fast after about 5500 rpm. The car will start to pull power after consecutive pulls because the intercooler can't keep up. The blanking plate was added for a blanket fix being that it's a global car. They saw in very humid environments that they had a lot of condensation in the intake tract. Almost every intercooler does this by the way. Keep tuned to this channel where we explain why an intercooler is the number one thing you should do to any Ecoboost motor. The RS is no exception.
DukeNuggets69 Ford put in same blanking plate on 3.5 ecoboost. it's for those people that drive car like grandma which causes codensesation to a cumulative in intercooler insted of being sucked into the engine. when it acumulates enough, it will cause misfire once you hit enough boost to push it out of intercooler.
Thanks for the video tutorial guys. I put an ETS FMIC + IC Pipes on my 2016 Focus RS yesterday. We didn't take off the front wheels though. A 2-post lift was definitely helpful. For my full intercooler install write-up = hanksrs.com/FMIC_and_Piping.htm
Suburu heavy industry did alot of Air planes to attack Hawaii. So I just remember what they said when they /Japan surrendered about attacking American industry. Anybody know that story?
the video is great ..the job is so neat...but if I buy the RS, I might as well leave it as stock..it's already fun to drive. designed to be fast and responsive.. already paid so many much for the car and adding more into it is way much.. just my opinion...✌😊

Could you install it on some ramps as well? I don’t have a shop lift
Yeah shouldn't be a problem.
@@BlakesGarage thank you!
Blake at it again with the RS videos!
+T-WRX haha you know it. Filming another today.
I love the Ford Focus videos!
Thank you Blake and friends for the great install video. We've included a link on our product page to this video. Keep up the great work guys!
Would have been real helpful if instructions came of which clamps go where, which couplers go where, and instructions to how to fit everything in.

+Pedal2Metal haha!
Nice meeting Brandon at Thunderhill today! Car looks great in person! I'll be racing at the next OnGrid event in November. Hope to see you there!
Nice meeting you too! Hopefully we will be able to make it out in November
So much work just to get to the intercooler! Doing it on my Evo was legitimately just removing the bumper and swapping them.
Still love the RS and these videos though!
SparkO straight up just getting tired watching you guys work. Too funny!
I need my Focus RS NB already. I'm dying watching all these mod videos.
Really enjoy the channel. And that dog has to be one of the coolest dogs for sure!
SPNFENDER
Yes, tis I.
Is there a benefit to running the charge pipes? Does it make a huge difference?
The sensor on the intercooler is a MAPT (Manifold Air Pressure & Temperature) Sensor.
if it's like the FoST it's just temp and pressure is read in the intake manifold.
damn dude i love those air directors for the brakes.. wish my WRX had that. i know they do sell a couple flaps like that for my car, but they're way too expensive.
Great video, very thorough. Thank you FW Motorsport for doing this.
Which clamps go where? Which couplers go where?
cool to see someone modding a new RS. is the car yours?
Tis mines
Why not cut a hole in the undertray to access oil filter and drain pan bolt?
Using something like a Fumoto valve so you can connect a hose and drain oil easily.
+Ernesto Ortega not a bad idea. But it would probably effect the aerodynamics of the cooling ducts.

Can u guys do an ethanol content sensor install on rs plz..
Love the Crank ring tone
I've been debating between Mountune FMIC and the ETC cooler.
the brake ducts would be alot more efficient of the splash shield isn't blocking it all.
Now let's see a dyno run with this setup. Please!
How is the fitment with those wheels, are spacers required due to the offset difference from the stock wheels?
what tires are those and at what size?
what impact driver is that? The small black one he was using?
Hi, I'm curious why the ETS intercooler? any reason in particular you chose the ETS?
How long from start to finish did it take you to fit the ETS and charge pipe ?
Headlight fluid temp sensor

I know that color because my motorcycle helmet is that color lol Matte Anthracite
The color is called gun blue for that particular model of wheel from Ray's.

Haha that's me. I've had it for years as well
Can you install intercooler without the piping
Not a good one.
not sure on RS but on the BALT you should change the CP and DP and CAI and FMIC and TUNE !!!!!!! no sense to do this without a TUNE like HP or COBB
I would just keep stock fmic and make it run on e85 or have a meth injection kit to not have to upgrade it. It is a nice size and the larger core=more lag. So unless you are doing a turbo upgrade it is kinda pointless. Plus all those tabs and plumbing look horrid to preform.
Unfortunately the headlights for US are static, not directional. Nice job!
Same! Money move w the car
Where did you get that information from
I have mad beard envy bro 😂😂. Badass car man
where is this shop is it in TX or cali? the license plate on the RS throws me off..
if its CALI the CARB nazis wont let you do SHT. TX still is cool though

Blake, disappointed you didn't get Sparco's input on the finished install. Even he had the disappointed frown. Tisk tisk.
What impact is he using?
The tiny one I was using for the T30 screws was from Snap On
Can this be done by one person?
Definitely
Another cool vid pal . You autox this car after these mods ?
Track day then auto x next month!
The sensor appears to be a MAP sensor.
Did you dyno it afterwards? If so, what did you see?
+Daxx Green yes I made a video of it.
While on a Subaru it takes 5 minutes to change the intercooler.. spark plugs on the other hand....
Yea Subaru had the same engine for 15+ years the RS a brand new car
+billy heaton this so much haha
Would you be willing to sell me that stock intercooler. Trying to get better cooling for my st
However don't have the budget for a piece like the ets.

MAP sensor....
Manifold Absolute Pressure
Those wheels tho
+Tyler Dowd I know right so nice!!!!
I wouldn't remove ducting just to fit an intercooler but that's just me...
Guys need to get some carbon fiber and parts on that bad boy. Check out AWDmods.com they got everything
Why does everyone think black painted intercoolers are better? They aren't.
Wow all that work just to get the bumper off. Ford really didn't want anyone removing it. lol
+Terrill Cooke Yeah it's so many screws and bolts. Craziness!
+Blake's Garage sup braaahhh
B. Mora Sup!
Protects it all well though
should have done it first
Some how I know that guy from somewhere....
