    God, I love this recording. The phrasing and emotion is perfect. Who would dislike a video like this?? I just listened to this three times in a row, now on my fourth. Can you believe Shostakovich wrote this when he was 17!?

      I'm pretty sure he was 16, but anyway, it's totally believable as he was one of the true musical geniuses that matured rather early on.

    This time I dare to comment, because our own Torleif Thedéen plays the cello so well that my heart melts. And then Eldar Nebolsin, this genious pianist, he seems to be a relative to Shostakovish, knowing how he wanted the piano to be played...
    Not forgetting Janine, for it takes three to tango, I almost said, no, it takes three to make this wonderful music come alive.

    SUPERB Shostakovich, by three outstanding artists. This is marvellously woven, and moving, chamber playing. Jansen, like only very few top-level soloists, can switch from solo to chamber repertoire without compromise. The sign of a true artist.

    Absolutely fantastic! Shostakovich uses the piano in unusual and very challenging ways. All those leaps! Marvelously played.

    Janine Jansen is so vibrant and so expressive. Her performance of Vaughan Williams's "Lark Ascending" made me a fan. She is awesome!

    What a, yes, joyous piece. Shostakovich is fast becoming my favorite composer. These three players have great afinity for each other, and the music. I hope to hear more from them in the future. Anytime I see a new upload with Janine Jansen I have to make time for it immediately. She is wondrous, with a soul and the skill to bring tears to my eyes.

    Shosty was still in his 20's when he composed this and his satirical bent is there for all to hear! What a clever young man!

      Actually he was 16 when he composed it. It was August in 1923. The following month, he turned 17. Regardless only a genius can pack so many emotions in one movement like this. His father just passed away, and he was hospitalized due to tuberculosis... but in the hospital he fell in a girl and composed this. He later dedicated this composition to him and wanted her to marry him. But being poor at that time, he decided not to propose. Later he became more financially sound and made the proposal but she was already married and did not accept his proposal. Maybe this is why this composition was published only after his death... it's so personal and private.

    Small-sized chamber music composed by Shostakovich is more genuine and artistic than most of his big-sized symphonies. This work is a good example thereof.

    • @arnekorpen3143
      @arnekorpen3143 3 года назад

      Very true! I think it is also applicable as a generalization. Although Shostakovich's 15th symphony inherits a lot of his string quartet ideas.
