What is this music? There's something special with Shostakovich that I struggle to describe. I usually never listen to him, but when I do, I discover a completely new and unexpected world. It is so apart from the rest of the "classical" world, and yet I feel the string quintet spirit even more in his music. There's so much humanity from this music. Thank you Avrotros and Janine Jansen and Friends
This is marvelous! Janine Jansen is starting to grow on me, I heard her performance of the Britten with the Berlin Phil and was fascinated by her! So much passion in her playing...
An absolutely superb uptaking of this op 57. Five of the best chamber musicians there is, playing this wonderful Shostakovich. Ten years since this uptaking has not damaged it a bit, it shines like a clear star on heaven.
Oh man. "...a clear star on heaven." That's a very smart observation. I think the major chords are heaven and the minor chords are the stars. However it works out, thank you for your star-heaven observation and beautiful analogy. Well done.
This is cracking music making. Its amazing how the piano quintet brings out something special in composers. There are not masses of them but so many are wonderful and this is one of them. Janine seems to be catalyst for great chamber music playing and what a first class recording. You Tube at its best.
In this wonderful quintet there is one name that is worth our special thanks: Eldar Nebolsin, piano. When you look at him during playing you will see what a superb pianist he is. He is in control of everything, and together with the other he makes this to be a moment of unbelievable beauty.
god, that 4th movement -- so tremendously special... the resignation and the finality of the D minor at 24:10, then that unbearable climax... tears every time
Just great such a high quality I love the fact that each musician is a fantastic player individually and yet they play together like just perfect. That’s what great players do..
utterly superb. Her (their) video of Shostakovich's 1st piano trio is also stunning. Beautifully played and very well shot. It is a very intimate and intense encounter as another post mentions.
Grazie Divina Jansen. Lunga vita alla Tua bellezza !
Note the fact that Shostakovich, at times. manages to widen the Quintet and achieve six timbres, the puano presenting two separate polyphonic currents on its opposite registers.
Yeah well it’s actually really annoying. That’s exactly what chamber music is not: a superstar and some oompah loompas. Especially when everyone is as stellar as the folks in that video.
Although Janine is a marvellous violinist in concertos she is even better in chamber music, in which she never seeks to hog the limelight. Unlike some. But even if she wanted to, how could she do so when she has such wonderful "friends" to whistle up?
Amazing .Jansen one minute is playing sibelius or beethoven concerto then the next is playing second violin in a piano quintet.some people are brave and can do anything. How does she do it .she is a maste . watch her solo performances here . what a performing musician she is.
Einfach wunderbar!
Geez the focus on Jeanine when she is not even playing while MAX RYSANOV HAS A EFFING SOLO like at 32:45 is not only cringy, it’s just sad. She is beyond amazing but so are the other dudes. It’s like the cameraman was in love with her and decided to just ignore everybody else. Boris gets like 5% of the focus and he plays first violin like a God.
Fantástico como Janine & Friends conseguem cativar na audição de música "aborrecida" (desculpem, mas não é todos os dias que se consegue ouvir música de câmara, mas gosto) / Amazing how Janine & Friends are fascinating while performing "annoying" music (I'm very sorry, but not every days we are on the mood to listen to chamber music, but I like it). Congratulations!
Ive always wanted to comment this, but I feel that I haven´t reached the level to make my comment worthy this music. Therefore, this is a non-comment. And just a way for me to say that this is beyond belief.
Very up close recording - wish there was a little more blend - the strings are certainly in your face. Still a very intense recording that showcases the very fine players.
Janine's friend Boris' playing in the upper registers is sublime. What a gorgeous performance.

One of the best music Shostaovich composed. This performance also is one of the best play.
This is marvelous! Janine Jansen is starting to grow on me, I heard her performance of the Britten with the Berlin Phil and was fascinated by her! So much passion in her playing...
Prélude, lento - 00:00
Fugue, adagio - 04:39
Scherzo, allegretto - 16:22
Intermezzo, lento - 20:23 / Finale, allegretto - 27:19
What a beautiful tone the violist has!

This is not Vadim Repin...

Perfect, I love his playing!
Favoloso questo quintetto!
FAVOLOSO!!!
la fuga del secondo movimento è meraviglioso😍😍😍😍
Never heard something like this before!!! AMAZING!!!♥️♥️♥️♥️♥️♥️
Love Jansen and Rysanov!!!!!
Each time I come back, it's a fabulous experience: talent, sensitivity and musicality are a genuine *revelation* ... Thank you sooo much, Mrs. Jansen!
Excellent, so very deep and emotionally the balance of the voices are very beautiful.
god, that 4th movement -- so tremendously special... the resignation and the finality of the D minor at 24:10, then that unbearable climax... tears every time
I find it so moving, too.
Same here. It is like the inevitability of death chasing beauty. Every dry step in the piano versus the richness of the violins.
Ugh. This is so beautiful, it hurts.
Just great such a high quality I love the fact that each musician is a fantastic player individually and yet they play together like just perfect. That’s what great players do..
Absolutely amazing! Thanks for uploading.
It was the highest splendor that
surpassed far my expectation .
Breath - taking performance !
That music is so emotional. I feel that it includes people's suffering and joys in Europe from 1914 to 1940.
utterly superb. Her (their) video of Shostakovich's 1st piano trio is also stunning. Beautifully played and very well shot. It is a very intimate and intense encounter as another post mentions.
the way Shostakovich should be heard / seen / felt. :-)
Thank you! One of the best interpretation!
Brilliant performance
Awesome met tranen! Tears of joy Thanx

Bravo! excellent playing
This is amazing! Thanks!
This piece - each movement is lovely but nothing in comparison to the whole thing. And the playing is amazing. Thanks to the artists!
Sublime music, sublime performance.
Una sola frase:stupendo
wonderful - thank you!
Beautiful rendition !
A lot of thanks
thanks!

Note the fact that Shostakovich, at times. manages to widen the Quintet and achieve six timbres, the puano presenting two separate polyphonic currents on its opposite registers.
I think 24:40 ~ is the best moment of this quintet
Agreed Nonetheless, 9:39 really evoked a beautiful visceral reaction. That haunting harmony was gorgeous.
I always viewed fugues as pure musical abstractions. But the one in this quintet got me so emotional... Wish I could just give a hug to Shosty
I've never seen so much attention on the second violinist... :)
Yeah well it’s actually really annoying. That’s exactly what chamber music is not: a superstar and some oompah loompas. Especially when everyone is as stellar as the folks in that video.
@@IZn0g0uDatAll You can't blame her if they lost her black dress at the dry cleaners.
wonderful!
YU Hao-Sheng :P
Thanks.
Perfection in the platonic sense
Off a great Album !

Shostakovich
Bravo !!
mooi hoor. die gaan we eens uitgebreid bekijken.
Really good performance x
The scherzo always looks like fun :)
Bravo
Belleza!!!
27:15 ah what a nice Mahler reference perhaps from his symphony 1 3rd movement
Amazing .Jansen one minute is playing sibelius or beethoven concerto then the next is playing second violin in a piano quintet.some people are brave and can do anything. How does she do it .she is a maste . watch her solo performances here . what a performing musician she is.
Mrs. JANSEN indeed is a *master* - and a soooo charming one ! ☺
Exquisito!
They're obviously enjoying it! (and Janine's a doll...)
I'm genuinely ashamed... I didn't even know that there are performers of such a quality in Holland!
Well, the Royal Concertgebouw isn't the worst thing on Earth, either
@@douglasslaton5591 Obviously! Well, I was speaking about soloists...! ;-)
16:00 - there is actually an audience!
Who are the other players? What a sublime piece!
Stephen Messick and others- The individual players are listed at the top above the comments if you click the arrow to expand

bruh i played this in 7th grade for a summer camp and it was so hard my teacher lowk made me cry
Esecuzione splendida, ma quante smorfie...!!
First-rate in every respect.
17:56 is banger
Arf , still prefer the Borodin trio's performance , these guys are monsters .
Ive always wanted to comment this, but I feel that I haven´t reached the level to make my comment worthy this music. Therefore, this is a non-comment. And just a way for me to say that this is beyond belief.
Fully agree. It's uncommentable.
Is there a better classical music video on youtube?
Allegreto is very impressive
Who are the friends please?
Shostakovich was the last great composer.
That you know
Very up close recording - wish there was a little more blend - the strings are certainly in your face. Still a very intense recording that showcases the very fine players.
I woke up toady it was lovely Monday morning and I was in cherry hub so yeah
I love the cellists pegs. Their just so pretty.

Geigers !!!
