Cannot emphasise this enough, there's no one but no one better live than Rory. Master guitarist and modest humble guy. Have never heard a bad word said about the man, respected and lovingly admired throughout the world. Continues to give joy to many, kudos my friend☘
If you want to play more open blues/rock Rory is a great place to start, i don't think he ever played a song the same way twice live. I was 15 the first time I saw him play live ( Lisdoonvarna Festival '83 ) it blew me away, 2 weeks later I got my first guitar on HP. Good luck with your band, I look forward to hearing some of your tunes. All the best from Ireland.
"This is a song called Bad Penny by Rory Gallagher. I wanna give you a taste of what we are doing". I don't know if you were doing it on purpose Steve, but I think it is great and really funny that you used taste in the next sentence, being his first well known band. Rory is one of my all time favorite guitar players, so you've got my support. Live in Europe and Irish tour are such fantastic live albums (Rod's drumming is immaculate). I have seen him live a couple of years before he died (way too soon). He still had the magic.
The unique part of Rory's leads is his Irish roots, it makes him so different. He also recorded with Muddy Watters. I saw him twice in a club in Boston and he gave 100% every show. Then he would greet fans. What a great and humble guy. The difference between him off stage and on was 180 degrees. here is a documentary about his life ruclips.net/video/VZ1E3LFN3XM/видео.html
Probably that guitar is the most valuable musical instrument in the world still in private hands. Donal, his younger brother owns it and his son plays it . Only Paganni's 'Canone' Guarneri violin ,owned by Genoa Town Hall Italy is priceless ($100M ++) It has been muted about that if Rory's Strat ever came up for sale it would up there in $50M + level. (that's millions of $ $ )
Love Rory Gallagher. I know you've been doing Dea Matrona reactions and since your band is going the blues rock direction I suggest checking out Dea Matrona on Cream's "Crossroads" or Peter Green's Fleetwood Mac "Oh Well". They just did a live stream which was up on YT for on the weekend as a promo for their new single where they only did three covers, the two I just mentioned and them extended Crossroads. The third cover was a great version or Rory's "Cradle Rock" where Mollie does a great job on guitar and it's the first time I've seen her play slide guitar. Unfortunately, that is no longer on YT, but either of the other two mentioned above will show you their rock side, like when they covered Gloria.
Hi Steve! Long time, no see! Thanks for reacting to one of my guitar heroes! I am going to leave here some suggestions for you to listen: 1- Samantha Fish: Blues/rock singer and Guitar player; I follow her since 2015. This is her new single "Twisted Ambition" - ruclips.net/video/HEMnrnIqaEM/видео.html 2- Ningen Isu: Japanese metal/hard rock. Found them a couple months ago. Song is "Heartless Scat" - ruclips.net/video/CbI79e5iZKs/видео.html Greetings from Portugal!
