GS better bike? Probably. Guzzi more than good enough? Almost certainly. Both sound like incredible bikes, but as an Italian bike sucker I'll take the MG.
At least with the information at hand now, I was surprised they did not carry over the electronic suspension from the Mandello S. Otherwise I love the bike.
Recently bought a stelvio, I love it, great design and presence. I had three GS's and 1150, 1200,and 1200 adv. I could never get comfortable on the 1200adv. Possibly, I got bored with them. The Stelvio is a breath of fresh air and you can even ride it through heavy traffic as its quite slim compared to the BMWs. Try one, its refreshing
Having had a GS years ago and recently purchasing a V100……for me, it’s Moto Guzzi ALL THE WAY!!! As a technological achievement you won’t convince a great number of GS riders (or fan boys) that it’s not the “ultimate” or “best” at whatever…..however, it’s just another GS. 🤷🏻♂️ The new 1300 with all its trying to be, is looking more like other bikes, in fact I’d dare you to put up a side shot of it to a Honda NC750 and not see the similarities!!😱 As for the Guzzi……if it’s anything like the V100 but in a more “adv” styled package…..drool!!! That Stelvo will fly under the radar with less power, less suspension travel and perhaps a little less tech BUT as a complete bike…..it will have character, style and manners the BMW will only dream of!🫣 I know, how dare I…..😂
Speaking of Yamaha, WHEN will they update the 1200 Super Tenere?? They've totally gone to sleep on it. I like the bike, but please get with the program.
Being a Guzzi guy who was looking forward to the new Stelvio, I still cant see it beating the GS. It will have more character, of that there is no doubt. Better sound and styling. But there is no way it will outperform the GS.
Compared to the GS, I think the Guzzi is a very good deal: looks better, lots of caracter (I got a V100, so I know that engine), and significantly cheaper. For me the GS is a clear No. But let’wait for a test ride of the Guzzi. The proof is in the pudding.
I road one last week. I LOVED it. Very HANDSOME looking bike. I don't regret buying my 1250GS, but had I test rode one of these first, I'm NOT sure I would have bought the BMW.
Thanks for the discussion -but only Real World Experience counts and Comparisions need to be done with the correctly optioned bike not the brochure with base specs. Panamerica vs GS based on spec GS loses - not so in the real world in any kind of roll on, torque flatness and response wins. I loved my r1250GSA and it is the best bike Ive owned (40 over as many years). For me its BMW again - ridden the triumph 1200, KTM 1290SD (unreliable had it 6months), Vstrom (Dont like the Honda) so waiting on my 1300 trophy. I must say though this new Guzzi is tempting bike and based on looks alone...
I was expecting to see a Moto Guzzi stelvio made in 2 versions ! S and R.. 'R' specially with longer travel suspention .. at least 230 mm. Both!! And of course 21" front wheel ... 18" rear wheel !! More offroad adventure bike!! I think!
Could anyone try to establish (measure) the vertical weight-middle-point of both bikes ? The crank-shaft of the BM lays about 10 cm. higher, this can not do any good.
Nice looking bikes, great history, different approach and so on…how about the service and logistics? I have 3 times contacted the Shepherds Bush dealer for a test ride and response. Kawasaki Colchester responded with an excuse saying that they have the bikes (asked for V7 special edition) but don’t have any demo bike! Unfortunately right at the beginning of a process of liking the brand Moto Guzzi is shooting itself in the foot: no marketing budget! On the other hand whenever I asked for a test ride: BMW, Honda, Ducati and Triumph responded promptly and delivered. I think that is the main reason why many riders choose the big brands. No brainer that we would like to protect our assets in the long run !
I think 🤔 the V100 Stelvio is almost a new class of bike , ( like the V85tt that I own - A retro ADV , ) Let me explain the V100 is a VERY soft off roader with its only 170mm of travel front and rear and the big one ☝️ the pegs are mounted of the engine casing- if you drop it off road that could be “ the end of life on earth 🌍 as we know it 😂😂😂, I think it’s more an ADV sports ( like a sports tourer with a hint of ADV ) like the wire wheels and slightly longer suspension travel than most sports tourers . It talks the talk but unfortunately doesn’t walk the walk for serious off road . I would put the Moto Marine Xcape 650 in the same class as the V100 ( not the power obviously) but looks like an ADV bike but let down by suspension travel - like the retro scramblers ( that are not true scramblers like the Ducati 800 - wouldn’t take it off road ) like the true scramblers the Ducati 800 Desert Sled and Triumphs 1200 EXC and Frantic 500 caballero Rally - all true scramblers. I do love the looks of the V100 Stelvio , will make a great ADV sports bike ( with some touring thrown in ) 👍
Motobob, you should set rules for the comment section and watch it closely. There are many bullies and trolls around who harass certain viewers who have a different opinion and spread lies.
BMW will outsell Stelvio 10 to 1, not because it os the better bike, that it is, but because it is the Safe bet due to historic reasons: expensive but good. We still don't know the price difference, but even if Stelvio Costa less 5k€, people will not buy it in droves just because it does not have the track record of the GS as a big touring/off road reliable machine. Just like triumph retros are the go to retro lineup that every retro biker aspires to, independent of the price.
Jungleland33 I had the same answer!!! BMW Cardano reliable ??? 60% broken as they come out from seller... Telelever ??? Broken in 30% / 40% of new bikes.... I could go on and on... They don't know what to do and copy MotoGUzzi Griso and they call R9T with the same problem with the cardano...mmmhhh what else ? stop here by now. Ahh the design.... ugly, horrible, unsightly.... In 2024 engine in that position ???? When I had to chose which new bike after my accident with my Griso, I go to MG seller here in Pisa (leaning tower city), I bought the v100 Mandello Aviazione Navale. No way! BMW I won't never buy it for several reasons, but first of all for their design :ugly, horrible, unsightly (yes I repeat to be sure ahahahahah).
In truth nobody really likes Germans do we, but we do admire them and their engineering. Now we have a similar choice of a big trail bike, lets hope the Guzzi sells well.... buona fortuna Moto Guzzi.
The Stelvio looks fantastic, if it had been released in early 2023 I would have been very interested in buying one, but I brought a 2022 Pan America Special (Army green version). I did consider the V85, but the tech on the Pan Am got me. I think this style of adventure bike, including the Pan Am, are more all roads sports tourers, than off road adventure bikes.
There is also service and dealer network to consider. Aftermarket as well. I dont think BMW considers this a "real" competitor. BMW is just too far ahead already.
La moto ha un grande potenziale, se dovessero decidersi a fare una versione S con quick shift, fasatura variabile e sospensioni semi attive diverrebbe l'anti GS e la comprerei subito, e come me penso tantissimi altri
Biggest advantage of the Guzzi is that it's cool. I was impressed by the 1250 GS's I've borrowed, but the big BMW's have this all pervasive, dorky, midlife crisis, dad bike energy 😂
@@motobob did you not get invited to the new GS launch Bob? the only reviews we saw from you were from behind a computer, go and ride it, you know you want to
@@stuipooey1actually looking forward to riding it, but I’m not doing any international press launches this year. It was getting unmanageable to be away every week and tbh it’s hard to get good content when the schedule is predetermined. Pushing to get hold of one soon tho!
Man, I rode the 1300 GS two weeks ago. Utter disappointment. A clear no from me. GS is not for me. In a world in which the Africa Twin did not exist, I would clearly go for the Stelvio instead of a GS. And yeah, the AT is a freaking beauty…❤

Best thing about the Guzzi is the very fact it's not a BMW.
That Guzzi is the best looking adventure bike I’ve seen! Hands down!
And the road testes now out are great! Looking forward to try this thing first hand, I'm almost sold actually.... Great job Moto Guzzi!

Is the Triumph Tiger 1200 better than a BMW R1300GS?
Guzzi better looking✊🔥
Let's see the price differential. Stelvio will be much less expensive.
Not a good feeling knowing if you drop the Guzzi off road it's landing directly on its headers.
