  • Today Julianne and Annie are using some of our blemished apples to make a couple crocks of apple cordial, also known as apple brandy, for us to enjoy this winter! Our plan is to end the process before it is fully fermented, resulting in a yummy apple kombucha kind of drink treat. This is a great way to make use of some of your bruised, imperfect, or extra apples you have this time of year.

    To get a higher alcohol content you’d need to airlock it anyway … you’re fine to let it roll the alcohol will be very very very low .. aerobic ferment = very very low alcohol, anaerobic = higher -high alcohol content

    Any apple based ferment i have made has tasted cidery and I am not partial to cider, to put it mildly......i think i shall just ferment them for vinegar...

    Hello! First time watching. Loved this teaching video. Looks like something very interesting to do. I’m not new to preservation/ canning. But , new to vinegars, ciders, etc. Hoping I’ll be able to make this. I don’t have a resource for apples, so will have to try to catch something on sale at the grocery.
    Question , please? Other videos I’ve watched on acv, say to place a breathable fabric or coffee filter over the jug. Is there a reason that you make yours airtight? Thank you so much. You are very sweet ladies. God bless you both ❤️

    • @HeartwayFarms
      @HeartwayFarms  Год назад +1

      Over our apple cider vinegars we do normally leave a breathable top. However, for this recipe we place the lid on top of it with the plastic wrap to allow air to escape but not flow back into it. It is just a method that we were taught and that we are utilizing for this specific Apple Brandy recipe. It would kind of simulate using an airlock in the brewing process. Allowing air to go out but not come back in to replace the fermentation process.

    Great idea and info. One thing is that Juliannes voice is already pretty light so that if she talks while she is looking down or away from the camera, you cant really hear what she says. This happened a few times while she was giving important components of the process and I had to wait and see what she had said. So, speak up Julianne. Or just make sure your are full frontal face to the camera when you speak so we can all hear you. lotsa love yall.

    • @HeartwayFarms

      We have never used dried cherries before. So I don't know if this would work or not? I know that raisins do have a form of their own yeast which is why this recipe works.

    Can you use apples that are very rotten leaking fluid and brown?

    • @HeartwayFarms
      @HeartwayFarms  Год назад

      We do not use apples that are that far gone. We feed those apples to our chickens. Bruised and imperfect apples are acceptable but once they have turned to mushy and falling apart we do not utilize those. Thank you so much for your support and have a blessed day!

    • @user-cy2ns2dj9f

      Fallen apples are very risky to eat. They may contain patulin, especially if they're already rotting and leaking as you described. Be careful.
