The Best Recipe for Bruised Apples | How to make Fermented Apple Brandy | Apple Cordial Recipe

- Today Julianne and Annie are using some of our blemished apples to make a couple crocks of apple cordial, also known as apple brandy, for us to enjoy this winter! Our plan is to end the process before it is fully fermented, resulting in a yummy apple kombucha kind of drink treat. This is a great way to make use of some of your bruised, imperfect, or extra apples you have this time of year.

I started a batch 2 to 3 weeks ago and it spilled out all over today. Any suggestions? On how to seal my huge jar lol
I would like to try this. My mama is bringing me a bunch of apples from her mountain trip.
I have made this two years in a row and whoohoo it ferments for sure. I save it for heavy chested colds and such.
Ooh, I can’t wait to try this myself!❤️🇺🇸🙏🏼
Should be good. I just picked crabapples to make apple juice. Let the fun begin!
I love yalls channel.
I have never seen this done. I don’t drink a lot of alcohol but on occasion I cook with it. I hope it’s good
I made this last year, let it sit for a year, is wonderful!
I smashed each layer down.
Do you have a follow up video on how to strain and store? Ours is ready. Thank you.
Hmm very interesting ☺️
I hope this turns out for you all! Will it be fizzy? I watched someone make a ginger beer and it was fizzy and childrwn drank it. I would be afraid of botulism though. Good luck with your experiment! Love watching what you guys are doing!!!!
I made it yesterday. I see that it made its own liquid. I'll be watching to top it off with more apples today. Thank you for the recipe.
But it all looks good 🍎 😊
NICE! I just used all my buggy funky apples yesterday tho! Made nice applesauce! Ill have to try this with some of the imperfect apples I have left, Thanks!
I was wondering if it was safe to use apples as you described for some sauce?
To get a higher alcohol content you’d need to airlock it anyway … you’re fine to let it roll the alcohol will be very very very low .. aerobic ferment = very very low alcohol, anaerobic = higher -high alcohol content
Also apple scrap jelly ..
Question: why is it important to get the seeds out of the apples? Also, could I use dates instead of raisins? thanks.
I think because they have a bitter taste.
Any apple based ferment i have made has tasted cidery and I am not partial to cider, to put it mildly......i think i shall just ferment them for vinegar...
Hello! First time watching. Loved this teaching video. Looks like something very interesting to do. I’m not new to preservation/ canning. But , new to vinegars, ciders, etc. Hoping I’ll be able to make this. I don’t have a resource for apples, so will have to try to catch something on sale at the grocery.
Question , please? Other videos I’ve watched on acv, say to place a breathable fabric or coffee filter over the jug. Is there a reason that you make yours airtight? Thank you so much. You are very sweet ladies. God bless you both ❤️
Over our apple cider vinegars we do normally leave a breathable top. However, for this recipe we place the lid on top of it with the plastic wrap to allow air to escape but not flow back into it. It is just a method that we were taught and that we are utilizing for this specific Apple Brandy recipe. It would kind of simulate using an airlock in the brewing process. Allowing air to go out but not come back in to replace the fermentation process.
I left mine in basement for seven months. Is it safe to drink? I don’t mind if it’s alcoholy. How / where should I store it? Frig? cupboard? Thank you.
Followed your directions “but” it densed down by 1/3, is that normal? Should I refill it, air tight, used the same jars you have. Love to hear from you💜
once it's done, do you bottle it and refrigerate? or just bottle and keep on the shelf?
Looks good!!!
Where do y'all buy yr organic raisins?
She just got some with her azure standard haul.
Oh that's right!
Thank you for reminder 🫶
Costco has organic Thompson seedless raisins. In AZ they keep the raisins by the bakery where the dates are.
Great idea and info. One thing is that Juliannes voice is already pretty light so that if she talks while she is looking down or away from the camera, you cant really hear what she says. This happened a few times while she was giving important components of the process and I had to wait and see what she had said. So, speak up Julianne. Or just make sure your are full frontal face to the camera when you speak so we can all hear you. lotsa love yall.
Help!! I forgot about my apple brandy!! Its been setting for 10 months. Should I toss it of use as a fire starter😢
@@appalachiannana7975 Actually, it's probably just fine. Give it a try!
Any reason you didn’t crush it down before putting the lid on?
Could you use dried cherries instead of raisins?
We have never used dried cherries before. So I don't know if this would work or not? I know that raisins do have a form of their own yeast which is why this recipe works.
Mine didn’t really get bubbly. Maybe not a great seal? Is it suppose to taste kinda like vinegar?
Yo, for a second, I thought homegirl with the knife was gonna cut off a finger.
Suggestion: avoid injury and use an apple corer instead of a knife. Easy pezzy.
Does it have to be organic cane sugar or can it be just sugar?
You can really utilize any sugar that you choose to in this recipe.
Would that include something like Stevia?
Is there a follow up video?
Oh mine has a little mould has it ruined
I made some last year and let them to strong. lol Maybe too strong for me.
Maybe mix some with a sparkling water like a spritzer. 😊
Why do you take the seeds out?
Can you sub sugar for honey?
Have you tried making without the raisins? Or does that help with the fermentation?
We have only used this recipe. Any other changes or modifications would be an experiment :)

Can you use apples that are very rotten leaking fluid and brown?
We do not use apples that are that far gone. We feed those apples to our chickens. Bruised and imperfect apples are acceptable but once they have turned to mushy and falling apart we do not utilize those. Thank you so much for your support and have a blessed day!
Fallen apples are very risky to eat. They may contain patulin, especially if they're already rotting and leaking as you described. Be careful.
A couple months? More like 5-6!
More of an apple wine than an apple brandy. Brandy would imply a secondary distillation.
I hope you give credit to: OFF GRID with DOUG & STACEY
This was copied to a T from their video 7 years ago.
I use to make this over 30 years ago… does that mean someone needs to give me credit? Everyone learns from everyone…
@@nber3178 is always nice to give respect & credit to those that you use from, so, yes. 😊
This isn't brandy
Nice copycat video from Doug and Stacy
