Very informative, thank you. The pigs look happy, warm, well fed and watered, hanging out with their buds, not a care in the world. We should all live so well. Happy pigs make great meat.
Been watching this farm on u-tube for awhile. They do a great job of taking care of thier hogs!! I am a retired hog farmer.I have raised many 1000s of hogs. This is a very good operation. They work very hard and it shows. Great video. Thanks 🐷.
Love the opening SHOT snouts!! Had sows for close to 30 years. Watch those guys on U - Tube a lot. LOOSING YOUR A$$ no the feeling 1998 12 cents fats!!! 😢. FLEX AUGERS TAKE A SHOWER MOLLY BEFORE YOU GO HOME 😂😂. Thank you guys so much. Tell it like it is confinement is not always BAD.
Great tour. I grew up doing 50 sows farrow to finish west of Cedar Rapids. Gave it up in 1986 and got a job in town because the 100 acres my parents owned could not support all of us.
Likewise here in Ontario had 150 acres with my parents 50+ sows farrow to finish. Tried to expand during the 18%+ interest rate era. Gave it up in 1985 for a career off the farm that lead me to Guelph, Ontario where I am now.
I spent a good part of my life in Iowa almost 20 years.. One of my finest memories is my co-worker one day asking if I wanted to come help feed the cows.Asked him if I could ride the bull, his response "I'll give ya $100 if he even lets you get close to him". My sister is married to a man from Iowa and still lives there. Their son's middle name is Nile after Nile Kinnick. Go Hawkeyes!!
This farm is so much nicer than the vast majority of the contract growers i service in NC . The moratorium they put on new barns seems to have stifled the desire to upgrade and innovate here. Well I'm also not sure how well they pay. There's two processing plants owned by the same company. And you can either be contracted to them or one other company, that then sells to the first company.
My Late Uncle farmed pigs in Hampshire, England 🇬🇧 from the 1960s until the early 1990s on his rented arable farm. Rather different to those set ups. Very interesting video thank you.
Give me some baby back ribs!!!!!!!! lol Back in the 90's Premium Standard and Continental Grain and bought a lot of ground around us (N.W. Mo) and built mega hog farms. They are all apart of Smithfield now. They do every thing from farrowing to slighter. Great job on the video!
They said time required in the barn changes depending upon the stage of the pigs and the health of the group. On average takes 3-6 hours to chore 4 barns that are close to one another
I want to say back in the late 70s early 80s my great grampa sold like a livestock k trailer full of hogs and went out n bought a brand new truck w the aftermath of $$ back in the day for small family generation farming. Sure probably couldn't do that by any means today, but it happened back then for sure..
@@iowANFarmer I would agree,. I believe my great grampa got out some were around 93 and my great uncle around maybe 96.. Some were around the 93 mark they also started over in Milan, mo doing a big hog operation of PSF and that is a hole nother kit and kabutal of a convo. But in short that's about the time the big squeeze started in my opinion.
If i had to guess, it would be per head. Only thing that makes this work is they just raise the pigs and buildings. Contractors pay for everything else, feed etc.. If they got paid $42 per pen, they could never do this. Now if their being paid monthly, it's probably a rent style agreement. Farmer keeps the pigs in their building for so much s month. So if you take the 2400 pigs times $42 a head = $100,800. Take $100,800 / 12 = $8400 a month. Sounds fair until you add maintenance, insurance, taxs, labor, equipment prices, electronics etc.. That payment dwindles pretty fast.
Small food manufacturers who are 'successful' enough to supply WM, WF, HEB, TGT, AHOLD specifically with 'own brand' soon find themselves OWNED by the customer. Same thing coming for production ag. Social, Environmental, DEI....
They are not your pigs, start to finish would be your pigs. Trust me when I say this. The government stuck there nose in this process and took away a lot of FAMILY farms. Kelly M Benedix.
Thanks for stopping by! We had a lot of fun showing you around the place. Podcast coming soon!

Minnesota hog farmer in the 1990’s . 110 sows farrow to finish 1998 got me! Great video I can relate to what he was saying. Well done!
I learned a lot about hog farming on the trip. I’d like to dive deeper into the 1998 crisis.
Very interesting. I watch their channel but learned a lot from this interview.
I appreciate that!

Sounds like a familiar story for a lot of guys.

what a great time.
Thank you sir!
You are welcome!
thank you for the video
You bet!
if you go to our latest video, in the drone footage tork built my barn in 2006, he hasn't changed much
Checked it out!
This video has made my bacon obsession even more intense!

Hi,am from Kenya just started my piggery farm it 2 week now .l have learned alot from you, looking forward to pay you a visit one day 🙏
Been watching them longer you but very glad I found both channels. When you building your barn. Haha.
No barn for me unfortunately.

@@iowANFarmer Took one look at that bull and said no.

Great video. Wondered if you would visit those folks, lots of dollars in their operations.

I will be there Wednesday
Olay thanks !
Great Job
They have a beautiful facility.
They do a nice job!
@@iowANFarmer yes they do!
Nice video Ben. I wondered what it looked like in one of those pig barns and it looks really nice
I think it speaks for the way they take care of the pigs. Nice barn and happy pigs
Excellent information. Thanks, I want to know more about raising pigs.
*What is in the pig feed?
* What else can you tell me?
Feed is a mix of corn and soybeans with other nutrients.

We chatted about that off camera. We haul grain grain to Lucerne for hogs
👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍
Just one question how much labor is needed for their setup
They said time required in the barn changes depending upon the stage of the pigs and the health of the group. On average takes 3-6 hours to chore 4 barns that are close to one another
Good
Come a long way since the 1970s
My first boss ran 2750 +/- . Fair size
for back then. VERY INTERESTING 🤔
Interesting!
Sounds like packers (with a few small modifications) could set up their processing to accommodate a variety size of hogs.
Nice video! What is a pig space?
Good question!
@@iowANFarmer So, whats the answer?
@@evis22-l2t 1 inch. they got no space to roam. this environment does not match their physiology. humans are making reincarnation dangerous.
You use the word integrator is that the same as franchise? As in the resteraunt business

Is that 42 per pig space per turn or per year?
I think year
We raised pigs on are ranch, pigs always poop or pee in a corner away from their beds and feeding bins.
That’s what they said.
How many pig are their sir
2400 per barn.
The ol man should be the only one talking about contracts, and ol barns. And contracts very depending on the barn area and history.
He stated that in the video.
@iowANFarmer the truth is you caint make a living just raising out hogs, there is allot of factors those boys won't speak on.
@@kincaidfarm744 they are very open about hog farming. Check out their podcast
Yeah my vidoes are more realistic and truthfull.
That's a lot of bacon 🥓 !
You and Molly will have to chat about being tackled by hogs lol
Sure will.
How are growers paid? Is it paid per head as in $42/head...... or is it per space. and their maybe 10 hogs in space and it $42 for all?

Apa aja pakannya bro,dan gimana komposisinya .mohon di jawab
How big is that building? How many square feet
100x200 I believe. Split in half
In a north central PA farrowing barn, we did NOT cut teeth.

Why isn't sorting automated
Who can I contact about a contract
When I lived in NC I use to drive by pig farms and Turkey farms. The smell would kill you
I want to work in this farm sir
Look at Mike Rowe, Dirty Jobs and there is a company out there doing the exact same thing about recycling water/manure.
I’ll look it up
Factory farms arent for my family, we buy local direct

It looks really crowded. I hope you guys find a more humane way to have them with more space 😢
An american farm???
