My guesstimation is Howard and Alison were in the beginnings of their separation/divorce during this incident. There’s a major underlying question here: how Did Allison end up seeing this list? None of this story makes any sense, which means it was a completely made up bit for the show. People would be surprised at how many arguments, incidents were fake.

"Hey, I need you to get me some condoms but don't put them on a list we're sending to the studio because it's too risky and I don't want anyone knowing about this." ??? You'd think Howard would be WAY more careful about this if if he didn't want to get caught.
Unless: 1) The condoms were for Howard to use with Ralph. 2) The studio was aware of Howard cheating or being separated from his wife already but not wanting it publicized for the sake of the film's success.
I think it’s more likely Ralph saw this as an opportunity to mooch for stuff he wanted (which he has a track record of doing) including condoms. Alison mentions other items on the list Howard does not use, those were items Ralph wanted to have.

There’s a major underlying question here: how Did Allison end up seeing this list? Ralph said he essentially gave it to Laura and told her it was basically for Howard’s eyes Only, then Allison claimed on the phone that she saw it because it was in her area. Now I have no idea how Laura’s workspace was setup over there, but doesn’t that kinda sound strange? Kinda thinking Laura saw the list with the condoms and for whatever reason left it out purposefully somewhere where she knew Allison would see it and read naturally, which would equate to informing Allison about the condoms indirectly and still maintaining plausible deniability lol fr tho. She probably had a great relationship with Allison after working for the both of them for so long in their own house.
Seriously though if his assistant truly had Howard’s back, how could she have read that list containing condoms and then still be careless enough to leave it laying out where his friggin wife could easily find and of course assume f’d up shit??
