  • Unboxing, assembly and features review of my new AutoPilot 120 ( bit.ly/oldtown_sportsman_radre...
    ) from Old Town. This is the kayak in the Sportsman line that has the 45 lb thrust "spot-lock" Minn Kota electric trolling motor. What is spot-lock? It's a GPS anchoring system.
    If you are new to this channel I fish all over the south west Florida area. Most of my videos are of fishing in saltwater, but occasionally I switch things up and do some freshwater fishing. Since partnering with Old Town in 2019 I fish from a kayak a lot, but still take time to do some bridge and shore fishing from the beach occasionally.
    I will be producing a lot of fishing videos in the Sportsman Auto Pilot 120 including a full "on the water review" video soon.

    We bought two of these for fishing the flats and lagoons in the Bahamas and Caribbean using our 40' sailboat as a Mothership. They are stable, easy to get on and off the deck of the sailboat, charge fast from the motherships electrical system. If we are fishing a bit far from the mothership we tow them to where we are going to fish with the dinghy. We love our Auto-pilots.

    Good update JC - man, Old Town are looking after you! The auto pilot 120 looks like a good bit of kit. It is a shame the Sportsman 106 powered by Minn Kota isn't available in the 120 & 136 lengths. Basically you're having to pay an extra $1300 for the Auto Pilot feature + 14" difference in length. That's a lot of cash, and as I've mentioned before, if I was to look at the inflated prices for Old Town Kayaks here in the UK, you'd probably be looking at near £6000 here for the Auto Pilot 120. I'll keep dreamin'! Stay safe, stay well! 👍👍

      Thanks for watching. Old Town says the kayaks are Saltwater ready. The screws are stainless steel and any other parts that are visible seem to be holding up fine. The key is to always rinse the kayak off good with fresh water after every use.

    How do you plan on dealing with launching this one (boat ramps vs sand/muddy banks)? Also, have you seen any rust on the hardware or any connection issues affecting power yet from saltwater use? I love that 106 a lot....waiting on a Fall demo day coming up here to try both of them. It looks like you put it through its paces (like that windy day), so how do you like it now that you’ve had it awhile? Congrats on your growth, looks like you’re nearing 30k...what a great channel. Thanks.

    • @RadReelingFishing
      @RadReelingFishing  3 года назад +1

      Thanks for watching. I have a cart that I use to move the kayak around at ramps or with mild muddy or sand areas. All the external parts and pieces are looking good. The kayak comes with a tube of silicone that is to be used on the electrical connections so they don't get corroded. The only thing I'd recommend is putting a little grease on the sheer pin maybe; It seems to be a bit discolored after several months of use. Thanks for commenting.

    Nice unpacking upload 👍🏻. Especially appreciate the car topping at the end. Most of the Autopilot vids out there are being hauled by trucks. How much harder is this to car top than the 106MK? And what’s the fastest and longest distance you’ve traveled with it topped that way? Thanks!

    • @RadReelingFishing
      @RadReelingFishing  3 года назад +1

      The longer the kayak the easier it is to get on top of the kayak because of leverage. The farthest I've traveled is about thirty miles one way on the interstate at 70 mph. Once it's strapped down good and tight and the ropes are good and secure it stays in place really well. Thanks for watching and commenting. If you car top though plan on getting scratches unless you figure out how to be extra careful at the end of a long day of fishing. Ideally if someone is there to help that's the best way to go.

I'm taking my first full blown fishing trip this coming Saturday... I will be renting a Yak for the trip but provided all goes well I will then order the Sportsman 106 powered by Minkota or if I can get it with the Spot Lock feature then that would be great. Thanks Much appreciated.

    I’ve been hearing that the kayak will turn around on you if you are facing the wind and you are on spot lock. I hear it is very inconvenient when this happens. What are your thoughts on that?

    • @RadReelingFishing
      @RadReelingFishing  3 года назад

      Thanks for watching...First off, spot lock is much more convenient than any other method of anchoring. The spot lock technology is amazing for every fishing situation I've been in since owning this kayak. It is much easier and faster than an anchor pole or rope anchor and works instantly in any depth of water. The direction that the kayak anchors is determined by the current and the wind direction. There's repositioning that needs to be done at times with the spot lock, but that's true with all anchoring methods. The wind and the current always determine the direction of a vessel when anchored, spot lock technology or when using traditional methods. Thanks for commenting.

    Everytime you say something like "the 106 sportmans power by minn kota" or even this 120 you always add the line "powered by minn Kota" it seems so paid for and fake. If you are doing that on your own its not helping, and if the company is forcing you to throw in minn kota with every mention of the kayaks name, then they arent helping their cause either, it just seems blatently obvious that its advertising.
