  • Today is the debut of the Sportsman 106 Powered By Minn Kota ( bit.ly/oldtown_sportsman_radre... ). In this video I unpack, assemble and do a features review of this new model kayak created by Old Town. This 10' 6" long by 37" wide kayak is powered by a 45 lb. thrust, seamlessly integrated, saltwater ready Minn Kota electric trolling motor.
    The freight delivered 106 Sportsman kayak was sent directly to my home from the Old Town facility. It only took a few minutes to unbox and assemble the parts needed in order for this boat to be ready for the water. Honestly, there was only one paddle holder to secure to the kayak and a prop that needed to be attached to the Minn Kota trolling motor. I also installed the seat in seconds. The set up was simple and fast.
    Start to finish in this video I give you an up close look at all of the features this kayak has to offer, from front to back, side to side and top to bottom.
    Please click this link for all of the exact specifications on this kayak: bit.ly/oldtown_sportsman_radre...

      Thanks for sharing encouraging words. I will be doing a full on the water fishing review soon. I've been holding off with doing that until I've fished out of it enough to really be able to deliver the pros and cons. It's a great kayak for fishing and being able to cover a lot of area quickly to find fish. I've actually spent ten hours on the water using a 100 amp lead/acid battery and still had half the charge when finished. Thanks for joining as a follower.

    I'm on the fence about going from a Hobie Revolution 13 to this Sportsman. The one thing that's holding me back is not actually seeing one of these on any lake yet. I'm on very kayak heavy waters in southern California. Seems like everyone just upgrades to the Autopilot models. Holding a spot in the wind is quite frustrating in the Hobie without an anchor and I assume there would be a lot of fumbling with the power lever. The nice thing about this one is the steering is foot control, so would really just need to find a good speed to get close to the wind/current. The price is also a major deciding factor in it's favor.

    • @RadReelingFishing
      @RadReelingFishing  2 года назад

      The 106 Powered By Minn Kota is an excellent kayak for sure. You are right though compared to the Autopilot 120 or 136 there's some additional work involved in operating that throttle lever and anchoring with the 106 Powered By Minn Kota. The Autopilot is a lot easier to fish out of than the 106 Sportsman; the remote control operation and the GPS anchoring is amazing and you can also operate the rudder with your feet. Here are my review videos of both models. Autopilot ruclips.net/video/dJPXsbVnIq8/видео.html 106 Sportsman ruclips.net/video/_D0YpSttFOw/видео.html

    Just got this kayak delivered today. Went back and watched your video again - previously watched before ordering in January. Probably will need to watch at least one more time. 2 quick questions. Any recommendation regarding battery - is lithium worth the price for use with this kaya? I have a Garmin 9 inch screen I recently bought on sale. I presume I will need a separate battery for that as well. Again - any suggestions for a fish finder battery? Thanks

    • @RadReelingFishing
      @RadReelingFishing  3 года назад

      Thanks for watching the video. I use a lead/acid 27 class 100 amp hour marine battery. I'm fine with carrying the weight of the battery to and from the kayak. I never researched a lithium battery because the cost doesn't work for my budget. For the fish finder you'll have to do your own research on what's recommended for your device. • @RadReelingFishing
      @RadReelingFishing  3 года назад

      Thanks for commenting. The rear gear track works great for anything. I use it for my flag pole that has the light on it for night fishing. I also use it for my Ralblaza camera boom, and I also used it to add cleats for docking the kayak...I haven't used the wire grommets yet, but from watching Old Town's video on installing a fish finder the holes looked fine. Great questions...
      Here are some specs from Old Town related to your questions:
      -Max battery life 100 AMP Hr. battery-20 hrs
      -Typical battery life 100 AMP hour battery-7 hrs
      -Full throttle battery life 100 AMP hour battery-2.5 hrs
      -Speed4.2-4.5
      I was able to clock the speed at 4.7 on mine the other day. I also started with a full battery (105 amp hr.) fished 10-1/2 hours and still had half of my battery charge when finished.

      @@RadReelingFishing how do you know when a lithium battery needs recharging? I was told it runs full then just dies. Never used one before, is there a battery level indicator on the motor or something? Thanks

      @@johncal9403 Sorry for the late response. For some reason RUclips didn't notify me of this comment. I'm not familiar with the lithium battery. The indicator on the kayak works for lead/acid batteries only.

      Thanks for watching. I fished out of the new 106 Sportsman today. I took it out for a practice run. It's an amazing fishing kayak. The thing turns so sharp, very surprising. I think it's because it's short and the motor is placed more toward the center of the kayak. What I really loved is my legs didn't feel like rubber from pedaling for five hours when I finished, ha ha...I hit a top speed of 4.7 miles per hour. I'm looking forward to creating some epic fishing content in this new ride for sure. Thanks for commenting.
