This song is so emotional, can't control myself not to tear up. If you notice, the sentiments of this song is the same from his verse in Spring Day, I think it was for the same friend. This line from Spring Day, "To be honest, I miss you, but I’ll erase you now because doing so hurts me less than resenting you" makes really sense in Dear My Friend. Someone said it was confirmed in one of Yoongi's Vlive (I haven't watched the full Vlive yet, just snippets of other topics he mentioned). Yoongi was always carrying this sense of regret w/c he opened up to Jin during In The Soop. Someone said this life event of him might be one of the reasons why Yoongi has too much anger when talking abt dr*gs/people doing drugs in his songs. I just love D-2 so much, it's so raw and emotional but not being short of comfort. As I always comment abt Yoongi, he DELIVERS CATHARSIS THRU ANGST.

What is the story behind it?
@@housnaaouad5428 It's about a close friend he had before he got famous, whom he planned on finding success together with. His friend went to prison, but Suga kept visiting him and caring for him. When his friend finally came out of prison, Suga hoped he would have changed, but when he tried to offer Suga illegal drugs, he realized that his friend was lost. In the song, he raps about their story, and his feelings that maybe he should have done something differently to save his friend...

I may be wrong but I saw a couple of times that he's singing about his childhood friend who was selling drugs and ended up in prison. Yoongi once traveled some hours to the prison to visit his friend... that's maybe also a reason why yoongi is very angry about drugs in his songs.
Ive noticed this too, he seems to really have a distain for drugs and those who glorify drug abuse and addiction. I guess now we know why

I love that Yoongi/Agust D does only what is important to him in his personal project. It's very authentic and it reminds me of John Lennon's work post Beatles. Both are able to write bangers and iconic songs but also have part of their work completely confidential.
This song never fails to make me cry. Reminds me of my old friend… she cut off our friendship of 8 years with no apparent reason. This happened 3 years ago and still hurts like it happened yesterday. She wasn’t just a friend, she was family. Even though I miss her, I hate her as well for how she handled our relationship. Never thought you could be heartbroken from a friendship, guess I was wrong. Anyways beautiful song, Suga just knows how to convey emotions through his lyrics and melodies.

I think this mixtape have great structure, He started with hype song that are about word, people, what he see around himself, and when he got to more melodic songs it was about himself, like inside, his feelings, etc.

You should listen to So Far Away ft. Suran. There's a version with the members too, but I think you should listen to the original.

If I remember correctly it's a childhood friend/someone from his hometown. Like, he had to travel a few hrs to see him in prison
This particular track tears me up every time! Mind you, the first time I heard it I didn't have or read the translation but it hit me and made me so sad like the loss of something great, so I immediately ran to understand it and I was not disappointed and the feelings I received were confirmed.
Thank you for reacting to D-2 it's one of my absolute favorite albums, I listen to it on weekly basis, it shows the versatility, talent in rapping, producing and writing of Min YoonGi, sharing with us his thoughts and raw emotions, allowing himself to be vulnerable and telling us there is good in emotions such as hate, regret, anger and giving up.

This song reminds me of my best friend in high school. She was smart and had been class president at one point. She fell among bad company and I had moved away to the big city to work. Next thing I knew she had 2 kids by different men, unmarried, couldn't keep a job. When i saw her after several years she was very thin, with missing teeth and she just looked weary and aged. It does make you think how could our lives be so different. But she could just as easily have been me -- is everything really our choice or does luck also play a part?

Yeah, he lost his childhood friend to drugs. He couldn't recognise him anymore, couldn't save him. Must be an awful feeling to see someone we used to be close with going the wrong path and not be able to stop them.
