Dear my friend is about one of his childhood/school/hometown friend who he now has lost contact with (/chose not to) When Suga left his hometown to be in BTS, he has less contact with his friend and one day he suddenly got a call from the friend's parents, saying that his friend got arrested He went to the detention centre every week to see him, kept him company, went to his trial and was there for his release day But after he's out, time has past, Suga notices they're parting ways, the last straw was when his friend asks him to try drugs with him, that's when he has to tell himself that his friend is not the one he loved anymore this song is about how his friend still holds a place in heart, even though Suga hates the person he has become, mourning the loss of a close friend who has now became unrecognisable, a 'monster' also the guilt of knowing that maybe if he tried harder, maybe if he reached out more often, maybe his friend wouldn't end up like he has now

this is not exactly the live performance- it's an edited compilation. The actual footage from the final day had him crying and unable to sing most of the song cuz he was overcome with emotion. Watching it live KILLED ME cuz it was PAINFUL to see him go through it onstage :(
I think you just watched a mixed stage with the performance from the 3 days concerts, if you want to se how emotional he was singing this song, I recommend the version from the 3rd and last day.
