    Cool that you got the old signals before they disappeared for good. Hey, a few days ago I caught that same Heritage Unit #1074 in Pritchard, West Virginia

    Nice video AC! Been down at Cove to capture the east & westbound freights since NS took over operations from Conrail. I do miss the variety of motive pwr big blue ran weather the Pittsburgh main or Buffalo line north to Sunbury. The last vestiges of the Pennsy was the position lite on the Sunbury line at CP Kase late 90's early 2000's. Now them Safetrans signal protects the connection onto the Buffalo line.

    The Lackawanna 1074 is one of only four NS heritage units I've ever seen in person - the others were the Jersey Central 1071, the Virginian 1069, and the Nickel Plate 8100 (which, appropriately enough, I saw in Bellevue in 2016).

    Both roads caught on the same day and both merged

    As someone who grew up around the northeast in the 90's the loss of the position light signals is rather sad. They were common on the former PRR lines around Pennsylvania and New Jersey. On the one hand I thoroughly understand the need for greater safety and use of data in the changeover to PTC. On the other hand I have a visceral and emotional connection to the PRR embodied in the position light signal. It was the railroad that my grandfather admired and preserved in model railroad form. When he was still alive he would sometimes take my brother and I around to railfan and he always pointed out the Pennsy history and artifacts still standing for us. I still remember much of it fondly. And because of that and the railroaders I got to know and hear their stories, I believe it is sad to see such rich history disappear. Progress can sometimes be bittersweet. Its like losing an old friend.

      Another PRR artifact gone the Position light were all over the LIRR in the 1960s-1970 1980s

    Seeing a lot of TOFC on these trains reminds me of a question I've been meaning to ask for some time now. In the past there was a fair amount of trailer flat cars with single axles on each end of the car. I've not seen any for a long time. Were they all retired or banned? Anyone help me with the answer? Thanks for some great videos!

    • @Trains21
      @Trains21  5 лет назад

      I've not seem them in a long time either.. I'm guessing that they were phased out.

    • @makintracksusa8831
      @makintracksusa8831 5 лет назад

      Thanks for the reply. I was interested to see if someone out there had an answer. I used to see them all the time and they were an oddity with the single axles.
