  • North East, PA is is located some 15 miles east of Erie and is the point where CSX's former NYC Water Level Route and Norfolk Southern's former NKP mainline run parallel to each other. During our visit in May, 2015, we spent most of our time at the Bort Road overpass, a popular railfan location. CSX's double track main line runs under the overpass, while NS's single track main line crosses the road at a grade crossing. By far, the CSX line is busier, rating between 50-60 trains a day, while NS rates between 10-15 trains a day. UP and BNSF units are well evident, as are older CSX units and Amtrak's Lake Short Limited!
Enjoy, subscribe and thanks for watching!!

How far down the tracks is the Welch's plant from this spot

A quick google map search shows the Welch's plant to be about two or three miles to the west on the south side of the tracks. Did not know that was there!
