  • Here is how I check large clear fuses.

    Some names I have hear these called: FMX, FLB, FLD, FLM, FLF, JCAS, ... But most people call them, the big clear ones.

    Just an FYI, These are called J case fuses. There are two different styles. One is the regular tall case and the other is the low profile. I have a 2011 Crown Vic Police interceptor and these are the fuses in the fuse box under the hood.

    this helped me, used my phone camera to zoom in to see if relay was blown. thanks video helped me

    Thank you. My fuse box is jammed up under the dash and not in the open like in your example. It's hard to see the fuses by eye. Was able to get my phone up in there and get pictures of the little windows.

    😩 My fuses are opaque plastic... because of course they are - being transparent like yours would be helpful

    I usually check for resistance, but since those clear tops come off easy, so you could use the test light to check them as well.

      @@tubejim101 i could be wrong, but my guess is that the top is there to prevent corrosion from moisture

      @@pgreenx what are testing for? if you're testing the amperage at one of the battery terminals, you could pull the fuse while testing

      The black boxes are relays. If your lucky, they will have a schematic diagram on them. Here is a video that explains relays: ruclips.net/video/WrBWbnuX4QY/видео.html

    Howdy, I was trying to pull out a 30 amp fuse for my power windows but it would not come out I did not try forcing it. Do they come out? And if so can I replace it with a 30 mini

      They do. I used a big Bussman puller/tester from AutoZone

      I ended up using pliers. And if you want to be extra careful cover the fuse with a cloth

    my fuse that you have is twice as large as mine. do you think it can be check the same way as yours? i tried using magnifying glass a week ago but i could not see anything under the glass.

      @@tubejim101 what do you mean? There are atleast 10 of them fuses under the hood, it protects all kinds of elecrical in the car.

      @@tubejim101 yes i have a 2003 dodge durango and all 3 fobs that i have stopped working at the same time, changed all batteries and no luck. both my fuse box diagram does show any fuse for the remote receiver or car alarm, so im trying to check all the fuses one at a time but i have about 10 fuses like yours with glass on top but half the size of yours. i checked all the flat fuse and all are good.

    I have an 80 amp fuse stuck, it won't come out for nothing , it's almost like it got melted in . Any advice on how to get it out ? And I pretty much destroyed the top of it , pulling on it .

      It may have a bolt holding it in.

      I've noticed most high amperage fuses like 80a, 100a of these type are bolted in as well

      @@FixItYerself Thanks , that definately the problem and the bolt was hidden on the side , I had to take the whole box out to see it .

    Hi there. I got 0.300 mA on multimeter on my car ELANTRA HYUNDAI, when I want to check voltage drop. I use screw tester I know the wrong from (B3+ BATTERY CATRIGUE FUSE 50A).
    Know I don't know what I do and what it mean that fuse.

      I am not familiar with the screw tester, so I can't help you there. Your car manual should tell you what the fuse is for.

    Is this the windshield wiper fuse

      No. Looking around on the internet, look like the wiper fuse is #4 in the passenger compartment fuse box.

      Yes. Best just to remove it, and bring it in with you, to the auto parts store.

    How do you check relays?

      It depends on the type of relay. I like to activate the relay, then check to see if the device is getting power.

    Are the metal bars inside supposed to look the same on the big ones?

      Ihave a ignition fuse that the metal looks intact but thin compare to the other ones ihave

    What if the metal is corroded and green or black? Bad/replace?

      If it is not broke, then don't fix it. Unless it keeps you up at night. Then definitely replace it.

    What us the purpose of the 80 amp fuse

      To keep current draw limited to 80 amps.

      Alternator is probably limited to 80 amps. The point of all fuses is that they blow before wires catch fire. If you hooked up jumper cables backwards this 80 fuse would blow before the diode pack on the alternator does.

    How do you get a job fuse out? Like the j20?

      Look up a picture of your fuse, and see how the bottom is made. Might have a tab that needs to be pressed. Some, you just pull out. Depends on what your are working on.

      The ones I have seen ether just pull out, or have a screw in the base that holds it in. The ones with screws, can be tricky.
